Drugalyser "zero tolerance for some drugs"

There's no excuse for driving whilst under the influence of any recreational substance as far as I'm concerned. It's the testing for inactive metabolites part that doesn't really work in this case.

And before anyone starts, no I've NEVER done it.

This this this.

What if you were in a room with someone smoking a joint a week ago? You'll still test positive won't you? I thought cannabis stayed there for weeks.

Proposed drug-drive thresholds for prosecution (microgram per litre of blood/ µg/L). A microgram is 1 millionth of a gram.

Drug Level which triggers drug-drive prosecution

Illegal drugs ‘Zero tolerance’ trace threshold in blood

Cocaine 10 micrograms per litre
BZE benzoylecgonine
(main breakdown product of cocaine) 50 micrograms per litre Methamphetamine 10 micrograms per litre

Heroin- 6-monoacetylmorphine
(6-MAM - heroin and diamorphine) 5 micrograms per litre

Amphetamine To be decided
(illicit drug also prescribed for treatment of Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder)

Zero tolerance of non-zero quantities.

How big a quantity is a "trace" tho? Presumably that's a long way from being under the influence on any of them?

Do we even know what the tests are?

As much as you may not like those that make the laws, things like your hypothetical situation will be taken into account. One would hope.

Also there seem to be two arguments here;

1 agree/disagree that driving under the influence is FUCKING STUPID

2 the tests may not work/ be fair in every situation.

Nope. I wouldn't wake up in the morning & immediately start drinking either. I don't drink practically all day every day (when I'm not at work) but I do smoke weed.

Anyway, it wouldn't matter if I was actually stoned when I was driving. There's likely no chance that I'm ever below that limit, even when I'm definitely not stoned at all. So I could easily lose my hypothetical license if I was ever pulled over & some dick decided to test me.

I don't understand why you think it's ok to drive stoned but not drunk. There's no difference

It's definitely a good thing that that licence is hypothetical

minority of people that want to get high all the time and drive Vs loads of dead and injured people on the roads and the risk to the general public majority.

hmmm...whos interests come first when it comes to policy decisions?

I dunno the statistics but i would guess there are plenty accidents caused by people with drugs in their system...

fuck it, carmageddon
