anyone have an idea on how much lsd is ideal for writing music with someone as well as recording it? i feel that just 1 dose would be enough to open my brain a bit and release the creative juices. Would anyone feel that a full blown 4+ dose trip would be more expanding? Im looking to do this very soon and would like some added opinions. thanks

That all depends upon how strong the tabs are and what you can handle. I'd stick with one strong tab or two medium strength ones.

about a month ago i tried an albert hoffman bicycle tab.....just one.....was alright, however i felt it to be very speedy.....
while on it, i came to the conclusion that European based tabs are somewhat speedy.
recently i was able to acquire a tab and a small strip of scraps of WoW in the states.
the small strip of scraps had me well over buzzed and in a slight mind trip nicer than the hoffman tab
i still have the 1 tab left from what i got and planning on splitting that tab with my neighbor on the 4th of july.....my neighbor hasnt experienced real L in years :)

You'd probs have more success using the inspiration you find during a trip to make music after the trip. :)

i have this romantic idea that while tripping i could come up with mind blowing music, but the reality is I do much better sober.

Here, here...in the moment it always seems as though you'll never be on the creative level that you are on while you're high, but reviewing afterwards, a 5 year-old could probably compose better.

There is a reason blues artists get sucked so deep into opiates though, but creating something with progressive energy, I find being sober creates a better expression, without inconsistencies.

I disagree that what you come up with is worthless maybe jumbled up a bit but not worthless. I am a sound designer and make soundscapes as well as doing straight guitar based music and obe of the best things i've done under the influence of acid or mdma is create random music and loops and save them to a folder then when my head has cleared a bit days later .. Hit up some ppt and open them folders up and get creating i've came up with some of the best tracks this way... The way your brain thinks on acid is always interesting .. Some panning ideas and filtered drums i've found have been Wow.... Sometimes you might have a nine minute improvisation that is plain sh#t but i always find i can do stuff and use my ideas... I put out a thread on here for people with any audio recordings of there trips to give em to me to use .... So far no replys but i can hope ... I love sound design ... It's like painting pictures with sound and i don't think i'd have ever got into it without LSD

I guess I should've added musician to the end of "5 year-old."

I produce live music, and I don't deal with computers at the same time as music any more, so timing is a crucial thing in my sound production...which rhythm is a very inconsistent thing on an intense psychedelic.

I'm not saying don't experiment. I'm saying, if you are being depended on to do something...a proper dose of L doesn't mix well with due dates, which is what I gather someone having when asking this sort of question, without just doing it...and near baseline and psychedelics weren't words associated in the same paragraph/story with me. I only lived at two speeds. Melt your face, or keep your face.

I never did well playing with others..on the playground or in the studio.. Some sessions with others under the influence of L did go extremely well, though. Phasing out happened time to time, but when both of us were on point, it was rather fun... I still stick with me needing to be sober though, but I am me. You are you.

okay i have some experience with this so ill chime in.

before you dose you want to set up the recording gear and get them 100% reliable so you dont have to fuck with anything other than hitting record, play and stop. set up your instruments so that everything is ready to go, with all of the effects and gadgets that you would want to mess with. i also recommend warming up a bit with any other musicians you will be playing with BEFORE you dose.

take your your drugs and relax and do whatever until they kick in. in my experience, i like to wait AFTER the peak to attempt anything like this. i have never attempted to sit there and write out chord progressions and lyrics and verses and etc. the best way to go about doing this IMO, is to just jam. improv any idea that comes out of your head or that bounces around from the things the other musicians are playing. later on, you can extract the good parts and do the arranging that will most likely be too difficult and tedious to work out on a headful of acid. do this as long as you can, which sometimes can only be a minute, and other times can be the whole trip.

for what its worth, i am a much bigger proponent of performing music on LSD, not so much writing it. granted, i play pretty improv-centric music and i feel like psychedelics, specifically LSD and mushrooms work pretty well in that respect. for example when the grateful dead used to take acid and play, they would prefer to take the acid earlier in the day so that they were coming down while playing, with the heavy mindfuck of the peak long gone. it is pretty likely that even if you spend a ton of time setting things up and planning it out that you might not even want to spend a minute playing or recording music--thats just the nature of the beast. it might take a few attempts to dial in the way you personally can make the psychedelics and music combination work for you.

anyways, good luck! hope everything works out, post it up here if you get it done man!

interesting, i have met a few people who have done it more successfully with MDMA, but every time i have tried, my sense of time and pitch is totally fucked, and my concentration is even worse than on classic psychedelics. with LSD or others, i can "get in the zone" and the effects of time and pitch can be very exaggerated. i have a much better ability to work with music on psychedelics than on ecstasy.

@GreenMachine ... I suppose it boils down to the fact everyones different dude .. Plus drugs cany vary greatly with ecstacy i normally found it is at the tail end when you know it's on the downward spiral that to stop the psycological torment from creeping in i could smoke a J and get in the zone of creativity. I never really created on pills mashed of my face too much to say and do at that time ;-) ... I personally enjoy amphetamines mixed with weed the best for creative flow

A vital piece of information I was going to input, but it was lost in my cosmetic goo. I'll also second the fact that you may not even pick up an instrument. Shit happens, and it's better that way.

Ohh boy... LSD and music. My specialty.

In my opinion, if you you really want to get the most creativity from a single dose of LSD, don't actually spend the trip writing music. Spend the trip *listening* to music. That way, you gain invaluable insight into the art, which you can use to create music later when you're sober.

Select some really high quality work - you want to expose yourself to the upper echelon of musical talent. So, if you're interested in classical music, then of course Bach or Mozart would be good starting points. Or, if you want to produce psychedelic electronic music, then you might want to select a Shpongle album. Etc.

The final step is to take about 100 micrograms of LSD, and play the music in silent darkness. Listening is an entire skill in itself. I find that, in order to really appreciate very intricate jazz or classical music, I must create a perfect inner stillness, or silence, so that every note can resonate clearly in my mind. I like to imagine that my mind is a perfectly empty, black space. Then, the music begins to "paint" images into that space, and becomes animated in my imagination.

The reason that this works for creativity, is that you must expose yourself to other good artwork before you can create your own, and LSD is one of the best ways to do it. Creating good music without spending lots of time carefully listening to other musicians is like trying to send a text message without a phone. It just doesn't work.

less is more if you want creative focus

Yeah don't take so much that you lose the ability to write/compose. Just take 1/2 or a 1/4th of the tab but I'm assuming you are getting very strong L or the type that will give you a ++++ experience from one hit.

You can just do this with excellent pot or hash as well and the same thing happens for some people. YMMV.
