As many here will already know, the British government has moved to ban NBOMe psychedelic drugs as of Monday June 10th. I thought this brought a nice opportunity to call for the law on Psilocybin mushrooms to be re-examined.
*edit, link removed, petition failed, everyone very surprised* Total lack of support.
The body of my petition is thus -
On the day that your government has chosen to produce another TCDO against a range of Novel Psychoactive Substances, I would like to petition you to reconsider the legal restrictions against psilocybin mushrooms, on the following grounds.
1) These naturally occuring psychedelic intoxicants rarely cause lasting harm to individual users and often bring great relief from illness or the stresses of everyday life.
2) Seeking the effects brought by the above illegal drug by using uncontrolled NPS's such as the NBOMe' series banned today is much more dangerous and that government legislation will continue to conflict with demand until the laws against well researched and ultimately less dangerous drugs are repealed.
If any British citizens in PD agree with me, please add your signature. We're not expecting to change anything overnight, we're not expecting to be heard. What we HOPE for is to increase discussion & debate on the drugs issue & to promote safer use of drugs, particularly known, classic psychedelic drugs such as psilocybin that have historically proven efficacy.
I cleared this with mods here, please don't move it back to EADD where there is already a copy!
As well as sigs, I'm looking for advice about how to propogate the petition on the internets. If you are British & you agree with me but you are uncomfortable about giving the government your details in order to sign the petition, perhaps you might help spread the word instead.
I'm setting my sights low. The petition needs 100 000 sigs to force a debate in parliament. I suspect pigs might take flight before this goal is achieved. If I can get 1000 sigs, or ONE percent of that total, I'd consider that a success.
Thanks very much,
