Okay I was given vyvance for add several months back by my psych. I started with 30's, which helped some but also gave me uncomfortable side effects such as, moderate anxiety, appetite suppression, plus they seem to have worn off after just a few hours, even though they took a few just to kick in.

He bumped me up to 40s last week. (Sill a low dose I know) The side effects have actually almost completely disapeared and it controls my add like a charm, but it still wears off much sooner than advertised, then I'm back to my old a motivated lazy self.

I have researched and seen several post with similar issues. I hate to start to chug energy drinks or some kind of OTC stimulant to prolong it. I have pre hypertension which is well controlled by atenolol. I also have a script for clonazepam to take as needed. I understand it being a pro-drug there isn't much you can do before dosing to enhance it, or after for that matter. For my hearts sake, IDK if I should ask Doc for a dose increase? Would that prolong it? Anybody else had issues, I know some have?

Or has anybody had any experiences with any of these new otc add meds and know the effect on the heart? I'm 32, 200lbs, in general good health. I have a tendency to drink heavily, however that has been mitigated since starting the vyvanse. I also am scripted lortab as need for a minor back issue, not that I think that has anything to do with it. Any advice as far as how I can improve performance without effecting bp or anything heart related would be quite welcome. At least so far the vyvance has not increased my heart rate or bl. Thanks.

I'd just ask for an instant-release adderall booster in the afternoon. A bunch of shrinks are used to doing this with most time-released preparations of stimulants, so I highly doubt yours wouldn't be receptive to a low-dose booster in the afternoon. Also, vyvanse is the type of medication that personally doesn't actually make you feel like you're on a stimulant. When it first kicks in, I definitely feel it, but after an hour or so of that it just dissipates but does its job very well for roughly 8 hours after taking it. Many friends of mine who have switched from adderall XR to vyvanse say they "can't feel it" and as a result, they don't believe it's working, but I think overall the drug is just a LOT smoother than racemic amphetamines. It's also possible you just have a bunch of the enzyme that digests it into its active chemical ingredient, which would account for you feeling like it wasn't working for as long as it should be.

Really? How come?

Use of Methamphetamine with alcohol will not counteract the effects of methamphetamine, but merely mask the effects. This is dangerous because the user will be less aware of the effect that the drug is having on his or her body. In other words, even though the high is lessened, the physical effects such as heart rate, are not affected. Hence, the user's sense of when their body needs them to stop will be skewed.

When taken with alcohol, the risk for cardiovascular problems is even greater. The combination of methamphetamine and alcohol raises heart rate 24 beats per minute more than methamphetamine alone.

I am quite aware it's a bad combo, even if just sipping. To midnight thanks, that may be what I ask about. The thing about the drinking is, ever since taking vyvanse, I often open a beer, take a few sips, then simply forget about it. It's almost as if I just don't have the urge as much. I'm not going to kid myself, I like to drink and prolly always while unfortunatlly as I haven't any cannabis contacts at the moment which would be my preference. Slowing down on the liq has been almost a none effort since my increase in dose, not saying brutus is anything but correct because I do continue to drink, not near as much but I still do. I also find my hydrocodone works just as well if not better that the amphetamines for my add for some reason.

Just to add another question on the same issue. I understand that alcohol and amphetamines can speed your heart rate. Can anybody explain the potential dangers on an otherwise healthy heart? What about adding clonazepam to the equation? I don't believe benzos affect the heart much from a few articles I've read, but as many of us know, one article says one thing, the next says something else.

Risks that come with speeding up your heart mainly stem around damage that the heart may accrue over long-term periods of use, and how much excess strain you subject your heart to will determine what damage could happen. If your resting heart rate while stimulated is sitting at lets say 100 bpm, your bpm while rise a lot if you're exerting yourself - sometimes to dangerous levels. If you have a pre-existing heart condition, then using/abusing stimulants may put you at risk of worsening that condition as well.

Clonazepam should slow down your resting heart rate, as would most straight depressants.
