Hi guys I have a question, you know when you smoke weed the vibrations feeling you get inside your body I assume its euphoria but no one has confirmed it for me, but back to my question, some times when my friend smokes (yes my friend not me to me I am fine) he gets the feeling and starts to get what we call the shakes where his body just starts shaking like a seizure but he is completely calm and comprehensible any idea what's going on?

Ps it's not every time it's only every once and a while

I used to get it in my legs when I smoked. Never led anywhere worse than annoyance for me, but it freaked my wife out. Blankets help. It was slightly before weed became paranoia all the time for me. So he might have that to look forward to. No idea what causes the shakes.

Cannabinoids usually always cause muscle spasms and tremors. It's a very common occurrence and really shouldn't be worried about.

I'm going to assume this is because of the drugs effect on the neurotransmitter Serotonin. When Serotonin is either agonized, reuptake inhibited or antagonized - I'm not sure of the exact pharmacology - but Serotonin will cause muscle spasms. Which is what happens when Methamphetamine enters the CNS.

Methamphetamine works exactly the same way Amphetamine does - but it also agonizes Serotonin and stops it's reuptake. This is why Meth has a greater appetite suppressing than most other Amphetamines. This can also be attributed to the reason why Meth users "tweak out". When someone who is under the influence of Methamphetamine - this cascading rush of Serotonin is what causes the unique muscle spasms you see in a Meth user.

Is it kind of a chilly, tingly feeling that goes up and down your spine?

If so, it's possible it's a surge/release of... I forget what the chemical is... I want to say dopamine but I'll have to look it up in a minute to be sure. It's the same kind of feeling some get when that chill runs down their spine taking a late-night superpiss; the feeling they described in The Sixth Sense when regular people are around ghosts.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about, it's actually possible to learn how to cause the release yourself almost like flexing a muscle. It can be eerily soothing when you're stone cold sober and just want to feel good and relax on the couch or in bed or something...

(lol, this feels like it turned into kind of a weird post)

[Edit: Fuck, man, maybe I hallucinated reading about that. I just remember looking into something similar a few years ago when I wanted to figure out what exactly what going on in my body when I inadvertently learned how to, at will, send chills/shivers down my own spine and give myself goosebumps all over. It was pretty weird and I wanted to know wtf I was doing, and remember reading something about being able to trigger a release of some chemical/hormone/protein or something of the sort. And yes, I realize I sound kind of retarded at the moment.]

Salutations Jibult,

...a chilly, tingly feeling... ... If anyone knows what I'm talking about, it's actually possible to learn how to cause the release yourself almost like flexing a muscle.

This description sure sounds like what i used to experience when smelling hashish, especially after a T-Break. It wasn't severe or anything similar though: my nose just went cold and it seemed all of my olfactive/gustative sensors were prompted to attention suddently. Very rewarding as an experience, actually.

Perhaps the underlying mechanism is related but our respective situations differ greatly. Yet, on some rare occasions i have felt such self-induced sensations without even consuming, years ago...

=D

Oh, I wasn't talking about nice little piss shivers, or damn fine song frisson that's good stuff. I was talking about the jumpy legs. Shaking the whole bed or couch and not being able to stop for like a half hour. Op, what does you're friend have?

Euphoria is an emotional state :P i used to get the shakes when i first started smoking

OOOOOHHHHH! Like tremors in random body parts and limbs?

::raises hands::

I'm guilty as fuck of those. My memories goes back to around 3.5-4 years old, and for as long as I can remember I've been unable to hold my hands still on my own accord. Put a pistol (airsoft/paintball, I've never even held a firearm) and I can hold my aim steady like a champ because of the counterweight (I assume), but watch me hold a ruler from the tip out horizontally and you'd be amazed and how much my hand'll shake that ruler into a frenzy.

To answer your initial post, though, marijuana's one of the only things that'll steady my hands unless I'm in the middle of a seriously bad anxiety attack. Speaking of which, I've always associated my hand/arm tremors with anxiety, and I've always considered marijuana most valuable for it's anxiolytic properties so my situation, in my mind, is pretty cut and dry when it comes to cause and effect with a potential weed catalyst.

Egzo that's exactly how he describes it with the cold feeling he says he feels normal but just cold it's strange.

CymbalKid- thank you for clearing that up for me I've always wonders what euphoria really was :) one more question tho what causes the little tingly feeling that's sometimes super sting and just feels amazing as fuck when you smoke

Golem-
My friend has been diagnosed with anxiety and depression but has discontinued his meds (abilify and some anti-depressent IDR the name but for some reason concerta comes to mind but if I'm not mistaken that's a add medication) and hasnt shown any signs of either affliction since he stopped

Salutations ddeakle,

...normal but just cold... ...I've always wonders what euphoria really was...

OKay, it makes sense to think emotions are able to induce physical sensations but my cold nose reaction felt more directly connected than if it had been triggered by euphoria alone. At best i think i could have called it a primal cannabic emotion perhaps...

It goes away after awhile I'm not exactly sure what causes to be honest but I loved it when it happened to me lol. When I first started smoking when I was 13 I would get it and call it "happy feet" because it would make my legs and body twitch like that little penguin I thought it was awesome and I liked the feeling. My fiancee recently started smoking with me and she also experienced the shocking/twitching and it made her really uncomfortable and she freaked out. But since then (2 months ago maybe?) she is also not feeling that anymore and I don't think its because of euphoria because she was the opposite of euphoric when she was experiencing it lol I had to convince her to just let it go and eventually she got used to it. But I don't think its anything to worry about sorry I couldn't be more help I was just giving my two cents.
