So I got diagnosed with adhd and I take Ritalin daily to treat it. However I thought that taking my medication would help my motivation more than it does. Over the last few months I've taken ethylphenidate quite a few times with positive results (I found this like a boost for my medication, perhaps this is to do with the similarities to Ritalin) and methiopropamine (really gets me going but it's sometimes overpowering, and sometimes I've had nasty results)
I want to know of anyone else is in a similar situation, and if you've ever tried using these two to boost your motivation. Or if not, what drugs help you? (It doesn't matter if you don't have adhd! Just talking about the motivation side of it)

When treating my own ADHD:

d-amphetamine: 100% efficient
m-amphetamine: 90% efficient
Adderall 60% efficient
Ritalin: 50% efficient
Nicotine:30% efficient
pseudoephedrine: 25% efficient
Coffee: 0% efficient

It's dependent on the individual.

Some people prefer caffeine. Some people like amphetamine. Some like drugs like MPH/EPH. And some like all 3, or some combination thereof.

He has ADHD, I believe his alternatives are more restrained than coffee ^>^

It also depends on set & setting -- the same dose of the same stimulant affects me entirely differently if I'm working in my home office, my bedroom, my office office, or the library. In some places, I'll be highly 'motivated' to fuck around and surf the internet and that's about it, while in other places I get stuff done that actually needs to be done. I've found that if the motivational effects stop being as effective in one place, they can be regained by going somewhere else or taking it at a different time. High protein breakfast also helps, as well as regular exercise. When I really am pressured to get a lot done, an oral dose of methiopropamine right when I wake up generally always helps me with this and allows me to delay taking my regular stimulant. In general though, I think different people will prefer different stimulants for motivation, without any one emerging as the clear winner for everyone.

One other thing -- be careful about this. If you are relying on your stimulant for all of your motivation, it is easy to start increasing your dose and developing issues, as some tolerance can develop to the motivation effects of stimulants even when the focusing effects remain constant. Sometimes, you really have to find some inner motivation.

What sort of dose of mpa works best for you in this way? I use it regularly, but sometimes even at the same dose the result is very different.
I know sometimes i need to motivate myself without medication, but it is REALLY difficult to get things done some days and I can 'zone out' and procrastinate for hours.

Thanks for this! Really interesting! If only d-amphetamine was easy to obtain as I can't get a prescription for it. Or even a similar alternative which was easier to obtain. It's interesting to hear about the nicotine, I smoked for a few years, and although it helped my ADHD, it made me far less motivated!

between 90-100mg orally. That seems super high given guidelines I've seen online, but less doesn't really do much for me.
