Monday I injected 90 milligrams of oxy and must have had a hole in my vein wall or something because everything seemed fine until I pulled the needle out and felt no rush but instead felt intense pain in my arm; since then I've been running hot water over it, massaging, and all the things I normally do when my arm hurts from missing. The weird thing is this time it's just been hurting more and more every day and the lumps gotten bigger. I figured it might be an abscess and this morning I woke up and it was bright red and looks like it's starting to come to a head. I just recently moved back in with my parents after spending 2 years on the streets in San Francisco and if they find out I'll be back on the streets again; so I'd like to avoid the ER if possible. I Checked my medicine cabinet for antibiotics and found Clindamycin, that's it. Is this safe to take and will it possibly cure an abscess? I read somewhere it can cause some kind of serious diarrhea or destroy the stomach or something. I also read it's a common treatment for acne... Do you guys think this could work? Or do I really really have to go to the ER? I don't want to lose my arm even more than I don't wanna be homeless; but I'd rather have both my arm and a roof...

I've taken Clindamycin 300 mg bid for abscess in my gums with no problem. I would try to find a way to see a doctor. No one can or will be your medical advisor long distance. I would seek medical help asap. Best of luck

I'm not sure what you mean when you say it's "coming to a head".

Did you micron filter? If not, there are all sorts of fillers and binders that contaminated your shot. Just the fact that there is still a problem after so many days is very concerning. I can only recommend you seek medical advice ASAP. The length of time is very worrisome. I've never missed a ahot of oxy but I have missed a shot or two of heroin before, and the longest it's ever taken to clear up on me was two days.

I just used cotton, but it was laboratory synthesized oxycodone powder, not a pharmaceutical pill. I've missed before and it's always been gone within 2 days so I'm pretty worried too. I'm gonna try the clindamycin for a few days and if it doesn't clear up/improve by monday I'm going to bite the bullet, make up a story and go to the ER. And when I mean come to a head I mean the lump is coming up on the surface of my skin and is bright red with a small white head in the center, looks kinda like a pimple.

Thank you for sharing that experience. It's just starting to show on my arm and I'm going to try the antibiotic; if it gets any worse I'll go to the ER because I want to try to avoid getting a packing.

Don't take random antibiotics.

Are there any needle exchanges that offer homeless health care services in your area?

Nope, I don't own a car and since I moved in with my parents I'm in the boonies, and there's nothing within walking distance and no public transit; and in the great state of north carolina needles are illegal without a prescription. I really want to go the hospital, I just really don't want my parents to find out I'm still doing dope.

Did you take it from the batch product and documented a decrease in the yield due to catalyst deactivation? LOL

Why do you inject oxy?

This. Even though clyndamyacin is indicated for soft tissue infections, you have leftovers. Not a full course, not even leftovers from a course tailored to you. Do not take this, it may come back treatment resistant.

Medical attention, buddy. :/

No two ways about it.

Bacterial resistance to an antibiotic is not so simple to obtain. I sometimes had to kill 20 cultures in a row before obtaining a tiny little spot of resistance on the petri dish. It's not like, you take antibiotic, baffff, you end up with a resistant strain. It can happen but it's statistically unlikely, however the risk is big enough for you to try and reconsider your action.

There are also cases where the illness became lethal after 8 hours when an antibiotic was not administered. The mother had meningitis and the husband delayed to administer the antibiotic waiting for doctor approoval, thinking the exact same thing, that the strain might become resistant. It's more complicated. The thing is...if you don't take antibiotics as cure-all for breakfast and dinner, taking it occasionally when a problem occurs represents no danger.

He has a problem with his arm, the antibiotic might work, or it may not work and the point is, if it does not work, the chances that bacteria resistant strain is develloped is 0-5%. The instructions are mainly for the well-being of the community. If you treat yourself with antibiotics and spread antibiotic resistant bacteria, the community suffers. It's more of a community awareness, moral right thing to do like not tossing batteries in the garbage...by taking unprescribed antibiotics you are endangering the community much more than you are endangering yourself, so I guess if you only care about yourself and couldn't care less about others, you're good to go, the thing won't kill you.

Truth over harm reduction my friends.

Like, I always keep 2x 500mg amoxicillin with calvunilic acid capsules in my First Aid kit along with alcohol, bandages etc. When I have a problem like bladder infection or sinus infection, I take the 2 single dose and go to the ER. In the ER you have to wait 1-4 hours so this interval is covered by the antibiotic. And then I tell the doctor I took 1g of amox, most of the time he's like, you did great! And prescribes me more amox...

Like, even if you took the wrong antibiotic, like, if you took amoxicillin and the doctor prescribes you clarithromycin, it won't make a dick of a difference lol. The second antibiotic will work. Except for the community. When you go to the toilet and piss your amox resistant bacteria, the community suffers, not you.

Just be carefull with not going to the doctor, if shit gets more ugly and you wait too long, they may have to amputate your arm.

But where did the injection go wrong? Did you aspirate? Got blood in your syringe? Didn't moved the needle after aspirating?
If you're sure you inject it the right way, maybe you've done a lot of damage to your veins.

Medical attention is adviseable, also to find out if theres something wrong with your veins.

Yeah, I grew up near Asheville in the 60's and 70's. It's a beautiful place but remote if you are used to bigger urban areas. Is Memorial Mission still the only hospital ER in Asheville? I see why you don't want to go for medical treatment. You will be judged in that area of NC. Good luck.

It seems to me the doctor will just give me some antibiotics and I might as well try this before I fuck my whole situation up. I do care about others, but is my abscess from shooting drugs really contagious?

This, it's antibiotic + doctor, not antibiotic alone. Antibiotic is to prevent further damage while seeking medical assistance.

I'm pretty sure I punctured the vein wall, pulled back into the vein while registering and then it leaked out.

Dude you don't give a shit...not like you do it every day. Antibiotic + doctor, as in, should have gone 10 minutes ago.

Yes it is. And I'm in black mountain so I'd have to tell my parents about my arm to get there.

It doesn't matter whether or not I do it every day... (even though I do) if my parents knew I relapsed at all they'd trip the fuck out; my family has exerted a lot of time, energy and money on rehabs and such since I was a teenager and they're pretty fed up with it. I do appreciate all your advice but as is I'm gonna take these pills and hope for the best. If it starts to look seriously nasty I'll deal with the hospital thing; I've had one way more disgusting before, when I went in and all I needed was a packing and course of antibiotics. This is just now today showing signs of infection. If I end up getting my arm chopped off due to being an idiot that'll suck, at least you all gave me good advice and answered my question. All you can do.

Do not self-medicate with antibiotics... they are not one size fits all.

You need to go to a doctor or ER. It sounds like it is very infected and you could be in a lot of trouble if you don't get that checked out.

There is nothing we can do for you here as we are not doctors nor are we an emergency service.

Closing this because the only safe advice to give you is to seek medical attention.
