I wouldn't worry; it's 'difficult' at the best of times. So difficult that it's banned from any house I'm still invited to. ;)

Finns and Estonians don't traditionally trust Russians do they? I only 'know' this because I've been told by possibly biased sources. Still, volatile mixture of nationalities! can say that as a British-born Paddy-Yid*-Basque, I hope. That's not half as romantic as it sounds either. Just the dregs of each nation's labouring classes, really. Sounds sexy for a second, though, at least to non-bigots or middle class do-gooders.

I'm 100% Manc in spirit though, if anything. Alright, 50-50 Manc and plastic spud-muncher. Or a dirty Jew to some of the less enlightened folk. Mainly Polish, it must be said, but by no means all of them, and some Czechs, Russians (and British) are far worse. But hey, I look a bit like a gypsy too, so that'll balance it out, right?

You haven't a clue what I'm rambling about, and nor have I. Let's try something schmaltzy, as after the Swans stuff nobody will dare click.

I adore this song. I really do. Shame it was wasted on Graham fucking Nash, eh? Joni, standards. Please. Crosby was low enough. But she sounds so sincere, if a little twee. Who gives a fuck with a melody like that?

Hahaha. It's in my blood, that's what they teach us in primary school back in France. Smoke, eat baguette, look bored and flirt your way through life. Can't go wrong!

Not at all! And I've tried to do the same, albeit with slightly less glamorous surroundings. And it's not the done thing in working class northern Britain, shall we say. Still works on occasion though.

Still, heading back from our coke dealer's, wired, very much in love and with that song blurting out brings back a smile to my face. Must be the French thing.

It must still help though. Coolness is universal after all, isn't it. Although I've noticed the bored look thing doesn't work as well in the UK. People think I'm genuinely bored and they get annoyed. Hmm.

Aah I'm sorry to hear that. It's good to be able to look at it positively though, a few years down the road. Remember the good times.
I have similar problems because my ex was a massive Dream Theater/Petrucci fan and I couldn't listen to some of their stuff for months afterwards. I'm just grateful he didn't like Zep much :|

I suppose it's a complex matter, like many issues of 'nationality' and 'ethnicity' in the wake of big empires and their eventual dispersal / collapse.

I share a house with a Russian, as it happens. She grew up just after the collapse of Communism, so the country wasn't exactly stable, from what she tells me. Glad you're not conflicted though; and yeah, they don't come much bigger than Russia. Or greater, at least in literary terms, and that's beyond doubt. Perhaps I like the fact that most Russian novels I've read are so misanthropic. You'll know where my name's taken from, then?

I wish I were on speed. I bought my first and last 3g of MDPV, and although I can see how it could be fun, it's too abusable for me (former cokehead) whereas speed isn't. Anyway. Where the fuck was I? Sorry, I'm going on a bit. To put it mildly.

Another one that she wasted on Nash, that sorry man who happens to hail from my area. Yeah Joni - I know Neil Young was weird, but still... what a fantastic couple they would've made. Till they ran out of material. Maybe it was for the best.

Pagey - I go on about my exes constantly. Both on here and in real life. Usually 'amusing' anecdotes, sometimes less so. I'd ignore it wherever possible. Though my housemates did ask me last night why 'every' story I tell them about women seems to end in "she turned out to be a bitch anyhow". Which I found amusing. If a little exaggerated. Just a little though.

I'd say you got off fortunate keeping Zep for yourself. I really love mid-period Bob Dylan, but I associate Blood On The Tracks and Desire with the pit I threw myself into after the split from the girl I just mentioned. Whom I can happily report did not turn out a bitch, and the mutual apology thing was like an epiphany. But anyway, what am I talking about again? :)

Guilty, guilty pleasure. Very guilty, seeing as I adore the Burritos and they basically stole their routine and sanitised it. Albeit they kept it together and didn't record a mediocre second album, but carried on and made money like functional adults.

I adore Gram Parsons' voice. This is another rock star on the 'unhealthy' list, compiled by well-meaning friends.

We're a right cheerful pair this evening, huh? My fault. Possibly. I listen to depressing music even when I'm not sad. It's a habit that's been noted on EADD before. Hence the clearance of the thread before I break out the big guns. It's funny, but not many people see the humour.

Yeah, true.
I have mixed feelings towards Dylan. For some reason I love all the covers that have ever been done of his work, whether it be GnR, Hendrix, etc., but I don't like it when he's performing them. Don't really know why, I think I have trouble with his voice or something. Certainly a great songwriter though.

A lot of people find that. He's a bit too cynical sometimes (even for me) and the voice can grate (especially when he's being self-conscious, but there are so many great songs. Apparently that was his 'seduction' (if you can handle the thought of Dylan 'seducing' anyone) method: get a woman back to his hotel, get out a guitar and a pad of paper and write song after song for them. Or so Marianne Faithfull says, so make of it what you will. :)

Exactly, his voice grates, that's it. And yes I've got no trouble believing that seduction method worked. There's a great tip for you boys =D

To be fair, I wouldn't be around for a couple more decades so I only really know of the very big and famous bands of the time. I've heard of The Byrds though. I'll definitely be listening to some more of the FBB (best band name ever btw) though since I really liked that one you just posted too.
