Do doctors have any clue?

The doctor gave me 10mg while the therapeutic dose for paxil ranges from 20mg - 80mgs. The 10mg was a starter dose for the body to adjust and has little therapeutic value. However, I am improving since starting this "sub-therapeutic" 10mg anyway so what does that say? Maybe the mdma effects just need to wear off on their own with the assistance of therapy, nutrition and exercise.

I read a study that high intake of omega 3 can boost the effectiveness of an ineffective dose of SSRI. This in turn limits side effects and dependency while staying effective.

I understand the concept of down regulation but it is not why you start with a low dose of an AD. Its more to do with tolerability.

The DOC that has told the OP to increase the dose may well have a valid reason for it.

Im not saying the OP should take the increased dose but should be aware of why doses are sometimes increased.

Strategy No. 1: When Using SSRIs, ‘Start Low, Go Slow, Aim High, and Be Patient’

Because of their safety, tolerability, and efficacy in treating panic disorder and common comorbidities, SSRIs are the first choice of drug therapy for treating panic disorder.2,3 The initial activating effects of SSRIs and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) can be especially troubling.4 As a result, many patients abandon SSRI therapy before they experience any benefits. Following are several strategies to help patients overcome resistance to therapy.

START LOW

Most patients should receive one half of the usual beginning dose of SSRIs and TCAs that would be prescribed for the treatment of depression.1,5 For patients who have had negative experiences with other medications or who seem unusually apprehensive, one fourth of the usual beginning dose can be used. Typical starting, therapeutic, and maximum dosages for antidepressants are shown in Table 1.

A word on colour also: Alot of people seem to be hung up on the "My MDMA is the dogs bollocks because it stinks of aniseed/liquorice! OR "Its really Brown/yellow/pink/green!". In my experience, the best MDMA if have eaten had no scent at all and was pure white when crushed. Not that this makes my point any more valid, but the main message here is: Smell/colour tinges usually come from impurities or excess safrole in the synth etc. You should never base purity on colour, taste or smell.

I was posting this topic in the Mental Health forum and people are like "take your meds you need em".
Here in the Ecstasy Forum I am hearing something different - "go all natural, this is drug induced and will go away".
Hard to decide.

Its a difficult call. If you are truly suicidal and are in a serious bad place then the meds might give you the lift you need. If you can go without the meds then going natural is probably better.

I have had two long term come downs and the first I got out of without meds.

Do YOU need them, though? I think that's the most important thing here. Personally, I think it's best to overcome depression the natural way. It gives you a feeling of pride.. that if you overcame that, you can overcome anything.

There are some major differences between MDMA induced depression and natural depression.. the first is a short term, major imbalance that just needs to sort itself out overtime. The second is a very long term, if not life long, and can only be corrected with correct treatment and medication.

Did you tell your doctor your symptoms were from abuse of a drug?

Futura how long did your comedowns last? Did the meds help e second go around and were you able to get off of them? What were your symptoms? Thanks

Folley, yes. I told the GP about the mdma, it didn't phase him, he says I can use a year of it.

I also told the psych about the mdma, and he still says a 6 month stint of ssri could be beneficial.

Right now life is tolerable. I am not depressed, nor am I having panic attacks. My only complaints are brain fog, a quick heartbeat sometimes and my sleep is not as satisfying as usual. Are these not normal long term mdma recovery side effects?

First comedown lasted 6 months and I didnt use meds. Second comedown still in it and have experimented with meds so far they havent really helped.

I havent found it a problem to get off the meds but this is not the same for everyone. Some people have horrible withdrawel symptoms.

To be honest I kind of agree with Folley you might be better without the meds but only you can really make this call.

The brain fog, increased heart beat and bad sleep is classic long term comedown. The increased heart beat is likely anxiety driven.

That's because the MDMA factor does add a complicating factor. The downregulation side effect of SSRIs is similarish to MDMA's downregulation side effect and it's been noted before on this board how SSRI withdrawal symptoms are in many ways similar to MDMA recovery symptoms.

SSRIs are however the go-to drug for depression symptoms. Unfortunately for a variety of reasons doctors have a habit of pushing pills on people. It's rather annoying. Go to get a longish lasting cold-induced sore throat checked out, and get a fuckin' antibiotic script even though the doc says it's normal and will recover with time. *facepalm*

I personally wouldn't take an SSRI to deal with MDMA-induced depression unless I was in a really bad place, but hey, no fault I guess if it helps.
