Meds for Bad LSD Trips?

What sedatives or benzos do medics or ERs use to combat patients who are on a very bad trip from LSD or any other hallucinogenic drug?
Do they give benzos like Versed or Xanax or also do they add Haldol in the mix as well?

I dunno what medics would give, but the one time I had a bad trip (also the one time I did LSD, never happening again) my friends gave me a few Xanax to calm me down. It didn't help more than a little though...all I can say is be sure you're in a very good state of mind before doing any hallucinogenic drug, I did it depressed and it's really not an experience I care to relive ever again.

I dont want to ANY ANY of these drugs at all. I was just asking in general because I stumbled onto this YouTube video about a guy tripping out on LSD agianst police.

A single minty 2mg klonopin did me a lot of good while on a very nightmarish trip

i always say have BENZO's on hand for LSD trips ,

Diazepam or something maybe just in case anyone runs into a little trouble ya'know

Antipsychotics like Zyprexa, Haldol etc are the best I think. Unfortunately I never had these on hand when bad trips happened, I've found a combination of a strong opiate+benzos work quite well too. Benzos alone does not always do the trick but it helps, something strong and fast acting like flunitrazepam/midazolam/alprazolam is to be preferred.

Edit: SSRI medications usually lessen the effects of psychedelics alot if you take them daily (I know since I was on it several years ago). Maybe they could work to lessen the effects of psychedelics even if you don't take them regularly, though I am not sure.

I don't think so.. It is propably because of receptor downregulation over time with SSRI's responsible for diminished or completely no effects.
Just before new year I adviced a girl who had been on citolapram for about 2 weeks, not to take psychedelics.. Well she did anyway and had great effects she said.

I know diazepam is given on ER's to counter drug induced anxiety, but benzo's in general and some antipsychotics will do the trick in most cases.

Depending on how manic the person is, it's different. They may administer 2mg alprazolam or clonazepam, or they may do an IM 4mg lorazepam. Whatever they feel like, it's usually a benzo.

I can't say what an ER is going to administer as each facility has their own policies and protocols, but more than likely an antipsychotic will be administered to negate the effects of the drug as they antagonize (work against) serotonin and dopamine receptors, and a benzo might also be administered to ease the anxiety brought on by a "bad trip."

This.

Benzos will only reduce anxiety and combativeness in such a situation, whereas a 5HT antagonist like the common antipsychotics such as olanzapine or risperidone will completely stop a trip in its tracks. There will be a lingering afterglow and one won't be completely baseline, but the trip will be over.

my friends would use seroquel to pretty much knock their assess out. I've never had a bad trip honestly. never needed anything. I do remember a time I did cocaine on LSD and it got rid of the head trip portion of the LSD and I was left with just the visuals. kinda pissed me off.

Benzos, hydroxyzine (5ht-2a antagonist), and low doses of other antipsychotics, anti-histamines with antiserotonergic effects, and atypical antiserotonergic antidepressants with 5ht-2a antagonism such as low doses seroquel, amiltryptamine, mirtazepam (sp?) Aka remeron, promethazine, hydroxyzine, ect...

These drugs work better than benzos at adequately stopping a psychedelic trip (LSD, mescaline, shrooms, ect..). Benzodiazepines help ease anxiety and dull the trip a bit, but don't fully stop a trip IMO/IME. 5ht-2a antagonists completely halt/stop the trip, the trip will be finished, no more visuals, trippy headspace, anxiety, ect.... 20-30minutes after ingesting one on an empty stomach.

In this video, why does the patient have a plastic see through looking bag thing over his head?
The cops put that on him. The around his mouth and neck area, he has like a pink-looking protective baggie like thing.

What is that for?

Just to any reading and not aware, this is an extremely dangerous solution unless you are already tolerant to both opiates and benzos. Otherwise instead of ending a bad trip, you might end your life via fatal reparatory depression.

Lorazepam and haldol sometimes, I imagine it differs from place to place. They can't always just pump shit in not knowing for sure what the drug was. Seeing as if someone is at the hospital for LSD, it's probably not even LSD most the time... I wouldn't mind someone slabbing an anesthetic ketamine dosage on top of it all to just chill them out ;)

I don't know what paramedics give but benzos are good to have on deck. Also it would be good to throw some mdma into the mix idk if yer cool with that but it usually guarantees a good trip bcuz well its mdma ya know.

^^I've known people who've had candy flips go wrong man. suggesting adding another recreational drug that isn't a sedative is not good HR for bad trips.
