catching polka performances on public television makes me smile cause i love watching old people have fun,the music is fun, and most of all it reminds me of my late grandmother
she was an extremely feisty and short fused lady but around me she was always so sweet, adorable, and knew how to make me laugh, she used to let me grab her by her arms and shake her pretty hard(she played along with it for the lulz), even during her last year with us, she used do this thing where she took tiny baby steps to get from the couch to the kitchen in ways that always gave me a belly laugh
last time i saw her was during end of visiting hours at the hospital, moments before i was going to tell her good bye she suddenly felt really hot and ill, i ran out and requested a nurse and fanned her with whatever i could find in the room, it helped her.....she died the next day, during early afternoon with her daughters by her side
she always wanted a hug and kiss when i would leave/arrive at her house but i was always uncomfortable with hugging family members, she never got mad about it, but i feel bad cause when they cleaned out her apartment they said she had like 15 pictures of me and my brother stashed all through out the house
rest in peace bernice, you were the best
all that cause someone had to mention polka....
