does ambien cause withdrawal the same as alcohol and benzo's or is it less bad? Also does it take 3 days, or longer to start to become PHYSICALLY dependent on it?

I met a girl in rehab that was a pharmaceutical rep that sold ambien as "a non-addictive alternative to benzodiazapines". Funnily enough she ended up in rehab for ambien addiction... It depends on the dosage and frequency. See:

Edit: Plus it makes you sleep walk. I did some dangerous shit while on this stuff, like walking out in the middle of the road in my sleep.

Yeah the issues are more the drugs effects. I never got any withdrawal after a year and taking 5 tabs a night but we are all different.

You can definitely become physically addicted, though it would likely take more than 3 days, unless you were using ambien/zolpidem in extremely high dosages. But it's similar to benzodiazepine withdrawal, I have met two people that had seizures from quitting Ambien CT.

Yes you get physically addicted to zolpidem eventually if you use it daily. No it will still take weeks and not 3 days. For a while I was taking 50-100mg daily and it definitely made me addicted after 2 weeks or so of use. The withdrawal wasn't all that bad if you compare it to benzos but it still wasn't fun.

I imagine it has a similar profile to benodiazepine withdrawal given the chemical make-up. You definitely want to taper you dose slowly to stop.....best bet is to see a doc to withdrawal from sedative/hypnotic style drugs. You run the risk of having seizures if you stop too fast.

It will also take longer than 3 days to become dependent on it.

It definitely takes longer than 3 days to become physically dependent. You might feel a bit shitty after 3 days of use, but it's not withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal is similar to benzo withdrawal as Ambien has a similar mechanism of action (binds to some benzo receptors) but it seems to cause dependence more slowly than benzos do and the withdrawals seem generally to be less severe. Of course it would depend on how much you take, how frequently and for how long though.

If you have been dependent on benzos or similar drugs in the past you may get withdrawals from Ambien more easily though.

So how long can you use it before you become physically dependent?

Depends on frequency and dose, but after weeks of constantly using 10mg by the end of the day I am so on edge I cant make eye contact. Shit is bunk I stick to melatonin now. Also had some close calls with it as I did not think of it as a benzo and would mix it with fent and wake up breathing heavy. As with all substances the honeymoon stage is great.

im pretty sure this is incorrect, but my psychiatrist said that z-drugs dont have withdrawal or not as bad as withdrawals as benzos. wouldnt this be incorrect as z drugs basically act like benzos but on different receptors???

Z-Drugs withdrawal is the same (if not worse) than benzo withdrawal.
A proper Diazepam taper would be needed to withdraw safely and correctly.

This is from my personal experience (zopiclone), and what I have studied about the class of drugs known as Z-Drugs.

Treat this withdrawal exactly as you would for benzo withdrawal.
