Fuck You, thats why!
Im over the cravings and all the other stuff its been 2-3 weeks since i quit. The last time i quit was for 2 months and i still had insomnia, it was the reason for me starting again.

I've tried Melatonin (upto 50mg), DPH, Zopiclone (7.5mg even double didnt work), and none of them worked, my gp said it was because of my marijuana use but im not sure if the insomnia should last that long and for nothing to work.Right now im using 4mg ativan at night, i was prescribed ativan for 'marijuana withdrawal' because the irritation and stuff was just too much.My ativan are almost gone so now im wondering if insomnia from the marijuana can last for months or do i also have a sleeping disorder?

As for the ativan the 4mg doesnt knock me out i have to want to sleep for it to work, i could take it and function normally if i wanted to.Its like I just never get tired, and i dont like being up for 30+ hours and then finally crashing.

Sorry if this post is all over the place or anything, I just really need answers.

In all I've smoked for 7 years with breaks of a 1-3 months at first, then no break until last year i went 2 months and finally this time which im stopping for good since its holding me back in life.

Insomnia for that long sounds quite unusual but I don't think it is impossible. It sounds like you may have just had a sleep disorder the whole time and the weed was effectively treating it so you never noticed. You should probably ask your doctor about sleep disorders if the problems continue.

Hey man, I've been in the same boat many times. I've always had difficulty sleeping so I've been toking for the majority of my adult life, effectively dealing with these sleeping problems. I start going batshit crazy eventually if I don't smoke, partly because of the insomnia. Now as for your current problems, I would guess that your regime of sleeping meds has got something to do with your current insomnia. 4mg lorazepam is a lot, if it doesn't help you getting sleep, I bet it's doing the opposite. I've slept better on clonidine and or quetiapine than I've ever slept on a benzo, even though I really, really dislike quetiapine.

Time, give it some time and be strong. Dealing with insomnia for extended periods of time isn't easy, especially if you are unsure wether it gets better over time or not. It does, just think how long your current break has lasted compared to those 7 years full of smoke you had.

The ativan was prescribed to deal with the irritation and other symptoms from weed withdrawal, it was a 2 week script (no refills).I've been having these sleeping problems since about 2009 but was self medicating with weed, but i cant do that anymore.I only had 6mg left lastnight so i tried getting to sleep on 3mg and i did, i have 3mg left for tonight then the insanity starts (insomnia).

Im going to have to talk to my gp or a doctor if my insomnia lasts too long this time, and see what we can do about it.The problem is just getting to sleep, i have no problem staying asleep.

Thanks guys for your replies :)

(This question might sound stupid but I feel it necessary to ask: ) Are you actually tired when you try to get some sleep? Sometimes physical exhaustion is the perfect remedy to sleeplessness/insomnia.

To answer your explicit question, though, I haven't had any issues with insomnia for quite some time now. When I stop smoking, my sleep becomes extremely disjointed-- I'll lay in bed for 2 hours, fall asleep for 10 minutes before I start sweating like a motherfucker, wake up and dry off, repeat for several hours. That inconvenient cycle'll persist for me for about a week, sometimes close to two after I haven't smoked for 24hrs or longer.

Im past the sweating and cravings and all that.To answer your question im somewhat tired, i yawn and all that but just cant get to sleep.Exercise puts me in a nice relaxing state for a while but not enough to sleep.

Out of interest, did you have any sleep related problems before your cannabis use?

I didnt have them till about the middle of my 7 years of use, at first i had trouble sleeping at home, but if i was somewheres else i would get to sleep.Eventually i couldnt get to sleep anywheres at all.

I have ADD related sleep issues and pot helps with that.
At times when I have quit I have more insomnia and if I don't smoke I am wired at bedtime, then of course the night sweats, "Holy ring out your shirt batman!"

I would rather smoke weed than be taking a prescribed pharm for intermittent insomnia.

This post isnt relevant to my question, and if you would rather smoke weed than take a pharmaceutical then thats your choice.

I've had trouble falling asleep my whole life. I started listening to self hypnosis albums when I was in 6th grade, circa 1969. I truly appreciate the apps for my phone with meditations. I use self hypnosis and anything else I can find that will work to calm me down. Right now my life pretty much scares me. I've never been in such difficult circumstances before. I feel very fortunate when I have a strong indica at night.

Google pubmed, then search "cannabis withdrawal insomnia" you should find what you're looking for in the first page or so.
