So I just recently quit heroin I was hooked for 1 year on Iv use the first 6 months it wasn't everyday and wasn't as much and I would take 3-7 day breaks a lot. But the last 6 months it was worst with taking break less often and using just about every single day onaverage 1-5 bags of good dope everyday somedays I used 5-10 bags all in 1 day.And my last two months I was shooting cocaine and doing speedballs usually never more then <snip> of cocaine a day but the cocaine in the <snip> bags in the city I live in weigh on average .3 grams. I would use suboxens when I was on breaks this is also how I quit I would take suboxens for first 5 days to minimize withdrawl im guessing it will take a few weeks clean to be 100% and have all my energy I even shot pieces of suboxen strips when supply was low I probably shot piece of sub strip around 20 times maybe more im not sure

Im 25 and I still workout I haven't been lfiting weights in few months but I still do pushups/pullups then run about 3 miles I had to be high on dope to workout since it gave me my energy but another week clean and I should have my energy back and I will be back to working out lifting weights and running.I spread out injection sites and have good veins so I only managed to collapse 1 vein in this year of shooting up and that was from dull needle reuse when I was being dumb.I usually stilled workedout a couple times a week even threwout the year I was using im 25 years old now 6 foot 160 pounds I use to weight 175-180 but loss about 20 pounds from the drug use

So what im wondering is how much damage have I done to my insides and my heart since I heard cocaine use enlarges heart and is very bad for it but since I only used cocaine a couple months im hoping whatever damage I done is reversible. So do you think I done a lot of damage to my insides in this pass year of my iv drug use??

Well, first off, congratulations on ending a nasty and dangerous habit. Hats off to you, really well done mate.

As for the damage done.. It's really hard to say. You could be very fortunate and have suffered none to minimal damage. You could on the other hand have suffered quite badly - but there's no real way to tell through the Internet and we can't accurately asses you. Your best bet would be to see a doctor and explain the situation to them - they will hook you up to the machines and give you a full body check. I think that would be the best way to accurately and fully diagnose complications that may have arisen from your drug use. But think positively, be glad you've quit that nasty stuff and are on the way to leading a fulfilled sober and drug free life.

As you haven't exercised fully and properly without stimulants or other performance enhancing drugs it's hard to tell too. When you get back to exercise you should be careful with it and don't over stress your body. You should also look into a course of proper nutritious and healthy food. Get a multivitamin tablet and take it everyday. Get your eating habits back on track and get that weight back healthily!

yea thanks I quit I got hooked backed on so many times but im really done this time its only been 8 days so im not out the boat yet but im not messing up this times its been to long suffering I cant afford the habit.I all ready ruined my life loss job car etc .Also I know you should never use drugs but I believe you only live once and who knows what will happen when we die.So I am still going to get high occasionally like once a months but I will never get hooked again and I will probably snort and not use Iv.

I heard damage done can be reversible so im hoping this is true and if I did do some damage it can be reversed since I love to work out and train

Chronic cocaine use can cause stiffening of the heart muscles and arteries, and cause high blood pressure according to some studies. How that occurs is still unclear, the most likely idea is that when cardiac output is increased the heart demands more oxygen, if the oxygen is not supplied damage is inflicted. If your worried about these issues then as synthetix said, consult with a physician, heart tests are easy and quick.

As for damage from injecting if your technique is sound, and you filter well you should be fine and if there is a problem it should appear visually. Many people require daily medication administered IV and suffer no ill consequences.

Good luck

well I had a doctor see me a month ago for std and disease testing and he checked my heartbeat with the scepotscopre thing and my blood pressure routine stuff blood pressure was near perfect does this qualify as heart test? he didn't say anything sounded wrong.and I meant damage to your insides organs heart and valves from injection drugs into your veins not damamge to the injection site I meant damage to your insides as a result of injecting drugs for a year

BEWARE this way of thinking ^ Unfortunately, once you have been addicted you will never be able to go back to recreational use.. it just doesn't work that way. Either you quit for good, or you don't. There's no middle ground, tell yourself otherwise at your own peril. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it's the truth and countless BLers can testify to this. It will never be "the way it was before" you were addicted, your relationship with heroin and opiates has been changed forever.. you can't use use it occasionally, if you start again you'll eventually end up just where you were before. There are many statistics out there about quitting heroin, but most of the ones I've read say that 90% of heroin addicts relapse after quitting. Please be one of the 10% and live a healthy, happy life. I'm trying to do the same.

thats crap mate im26 first took heroin aged 21 been doing it in weekly, monthly, daily, every other day, on off for years never once had a habit and ive shot dope hundreds of times. mental strength is all it takes and im living proof.

I agree, it is all in your mindset to a degree.
But not everyone has the determination of a MAC truck.. Which is what it would take to avoid becoming dependent when you use like that.
Hey, if you can use like that and still have it under control more power to you man, your stronger than most.. but what he is saying is certainly not crap.

The good news OP is that you haven't been using for very long... while it's still certainly possible that there was damage done, it's a lot less likely when you haven't been doing this shit for years and years. The only way to know for sure how healthy or unhealthy you are is to see a doctor and get checked out.

Congrats... but don't pretend like you're not in the extreme minority if what you've said is in fact true. Making it out to be all about "mental strength" completely demeans the struggles of others who did become addicted and weren't able to remain in the .1% of heroin users that can use like you can for any even semi-long period of time..

This bolded section absolutely isn't true, that's old school "12 step" logic. You can definitely go back to recreational use. I used to shoot 5-20 bags per day of high quality east coast powder for about 4 years and for the latter year also used crack on top of it non stop. I pretty much just made the decision that i wanted to quit and eventually go back to recreational use. While i do limit myself somewhat, I won't use any opiate stronger than kratom and i wont IV anything or freebase coke, but i still enjoy smoking weed and taking psychedelics, occasional kratom and occasional RCs. I've been back to my recreational usage for almost a year and a half now with no signs of any problems escalating. There are rehab facilities that are designed specifically to allow addicts to go back to recreational use but it's really all about the right mindset when you're quitting.

It's all about being honest with yourself about why you were using and figuring out a way to replace that need with a habit that is healthier. I used drugs as an escape, but now when i want an escape I play music or go fishing. The trick is never to use drugs when you're feeling down, only ever use them when you are in good mental health and all your priorities already taken care of. Then you wont be opening the door to dependency.

As for your IV use and damage done, I would think that you are totally fine but personally i had EKG heart scans and blood tests done right after quitting and then a few months later. I shot a lot of K, coke, heroin, suboxone, as well as a plethora of pills with no lasting damage, and you seem to be physically healthier than me.

I have never heard of a rehab like this. Not saying it's bullshit, but I have a hard time believing it.

Check out passages malibu, the most expensive rehab in the world. When i say go back to recreational use, i mean within reason. Obviously I can't go out and IV heroin again, but I can drink socially at band practice, for example.

I don't believe addiction is a disease and I will not 'doom' myself to such an idea. I don't buy into the fact that addicts are 'sick' in the head. That type of thinking is just repression. I'm not going to trade once dependency for another.

For myself, i would consider eating fast food as more of a relapse than taking an RC with my girlfriend, because my problem involved using something as a means to escape a certain feeling or thought pattern. But even still, i don't consider relapse to be a valid term because the presence of a 'relapse' proves that the real problem was never dealt with in the first place, so rather than relapse the proper term would be continuation.
