CE&P social thread: why do the people I disagree with hate freedom so much?

is it a lot over there? bit silly if it is.

how does one apply for a job or use a bank without id?

Most places won't verify your address. Voter ID tends to do so. So for buying beer and the like, you can use an older ID that's still current.

The address verification tends to hit those who move more. Hence the poorer and younger crowd, which coincidentally, tends to be more minorities.

they are 25$ in my area.
and i wouldn't say i'ts a 'question', so much as just a problem nobody's particularly motivated to fix. if you don't have an ID you don't care to have one, end of story. it's not like people are being barred or actively withheld from getting them, they're just not interested in buying one.

over here, when you move it is free to get your drivers license updated. they just attach a sticker.

The thing about voter ID laws that require drivers licenses or other photo IDs is that these IDs cost money to obtain. One could argue that this could in effect be considered a poll tax which is illegal whether its $25 or 20 cents, in that one must pay a fee in order to vote. It's a stretch of practical application obviously, but the argument could be made. When I registered to vote I had to fill in my drivers license number as well as my social security number iirc. When I reached the polls I was asked to present my voter registration card and a photo ID.

The social security card is free, whereas the drivers license is not. I see two possible solutions right off the bat. Either ask the voter to present a social security card that corresponds with the voter registration card, which isn't very efficient in stopping fraud at all. Or we could provide free photo IDs with designated ID numbers and the same residence information found on a drivers license to every citizen. With a free photo ID, a drivers license isn't necessary and no fee to vote would have to be implemented.

*many* areas have social service org's that help out the truly desperate (for instance, within ~1.5mi of where i met you, you could walk into a place, claim indignant status, and they give you a $25 check made out to the DMV. i've directed many people there, that's a long-standing program there and that's a common thing. in fact there may be more than one org offering such services in the downtown area)

i see where you're coming from in that, if you reach for it, you can make a case that requirement for ID is tantamount to a voting-'fee'. i'd disagree with that, in that i think things such as being able to get to the polls, and to properly identify yourself at the polls, are not fees but rather the process fo getting there, regardless of whether your parents drove you /bought your ID, or whether you had to take care of both.
/i could stretch the hypothetical further, and say that not offering a shuttle to the polls is instituting a transportation tax on those who don't have cars. regardless of hypotheticals like these, i really hope nobody is genuinely upset that ppl who cannot be bothered to acquire an ID aren't allowed to vote.

if you wanna get outraged over voting in the US, check out what clint curtis has to say on our (electronic)voting systems.
/if you're still capable of anything resembling true 'outrage' over this kind of shit anymore, lol. the shit i've read/heard from him woulda had me fuming if i'd known it a few years ago, when i actually did get emotional on this stuff ;P

funny commercial, and only the most sensitive vag's on the planet are whining about this. the most racially-insensitive attribute of this entire non-story is siddiqui's usage of the term 'foolish camel jockeys'[sic]

President of the Muslim Institute for Interfaith studies Imam Ali Siddiqui said: "The Coke commercial for the Super Ball is racist, portraying Arabs as backward and foolish Camel Jockeys, and they have no chance to win in the world."

I just immortalized both of your posts, so you can't renege and delete them. It's about time somebody else got an infraction around here other than me.

The right wing will go down fighting, but remember, ultimately, you will go down. Once this generation of old white farts who grew up in the 1950's dies off, the right-wing rejection club will be lost forever. I'll be looking forward to the new era of economic sharing, a more connected citizenry and democracy, and environmental concern. If I have to give up gun ownership for it, then so be it. Haha, at least the rest of us will have maintained a good reputation with inner city ghetto minorities and we know that we will always have access to illegal guns while you gun store guys will be at a loss.

It's a sad choice the right is making, and it is ultimately based on retarded shit like greed, religion, race, and male chauvinism. I know that they cannot be saved, and thankfully their cause is hopeless.

Wow what a lame move lol. What I said was clearly sarcastic. There is a difference b/t sarcasm and being genuinely racist.

Specifically you may not:

4) post or upload any content that victimizes, harasses, degrades, or intimidates an individual or group of individuals on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or any other reason;

To pre-empt bmxxx's critique: in most instances of public discourse, limitations on racially themed speech will intensify over time. I don't entirely like it, but it is what it is.

it's cute how mfr sees himself as a vanguard of sorts. i picture a ~18-22y/o, overweight caucasian kid living with family/parents, riding the line of sanity as his fingers slam the keyboard, mouth-froth dribbling down his chin.
go back to youtube where you belong lol
/and don't worry about 'immortalizing' my posts - ROFL! keep fighting the good fight, mfr, when you die you'll know you made a difference.
