So im getting into waxes and dabs and i need to find a set that will work with my hvy beaker tube. Its a 14mm joint so ive been looking for 14mm to 18mm 45 degree angeled sets and i keep coming across these ones on a site called i offer that come with a ti nail, but most of them say 14mm to 19mm so does thhat mean its an 18mm joint with a 19mm dome? If thats the case why are most domes 18mm? And lastly would the nail be 18mm or 19mm. If anyone knows a site that has a good rig let me know bc i sure as hell cant find one. I need the dabmasters guidence on this one. Thanks guys.

I'm a little drunk, but I think I can help you out.

USUALLY, not always and I'm not looking at the site you're on, but usually when it says 14 -> 18mm joint, it usually means is comes with a joint that fits into an 14mm stem or slide on your bong, and the other side, the female part, where the nail is 18mm to be able to fit 18mm attachments. When you have more attachments, you usually want to add an attachment with more "chug" and this requires more air flow usually more than a 14mm to be able to clear it with ease. Again it depends what size of piece you're using.

As far as 19mm, I have no idea. Pieces in the United States usually come in 14.4, and 18.8... perhaps they rounded up? I'd assume a 18mm nail would fit a 19mm dome, but not a 14mm nail. I could be wrong though.

As far as quality, definitely get a TI nail over a quartz or glass nail. They retain heat much better, and you don't have to worry about them breaking. If you'd like, I can PM you a site that has many nails and domes to offer. They're located out of California, and they have some of the best glass / accessories around, they even have a whole section of their site dedicated to concentrate smoking. Bad thing is, they can be quite pricey but I'll tell you it's worth the extra buck to get a quality rig than a shitty one.

I was going to suggest aqualab, so nice find there. IMO they do have the best quality products around, but the other nail you found doesn't look bad either.

Depending the way your joint sits on your piece right now, it looks like the nail and dome from aqualabs is giving you the ability to collect claim while the other isn't but maybe it's the way I'm looking at the picture and there's two different pieces. Is this a concern to you? The claim can still get you high, and it's by no means like resin, but it still isn't that tasty compared to smoking oil.

In my own opinion, I'd go with aqualab just because of their reputation and the quality pieces they put out. The other nail looks good too, and I'm sure you'd have great results with it as well. If you're all about saving the extra dollars by all means go with it, any TI nail will last. It doesn't have to be a brand like highly educated or anything, just as long as it's titanium. You won't have to worry about replacing it in the long run.

Im def going towards the aqua lab bc of the fact it could collect claim but im worried the first time i torch it the nail will crack. Do glass nails crack that easily? All the ti nails on the aqualab site are as much or more than the entire rig? Would quartz or boro be a good intermediate choice? Im thinking if i ask aqualab they might be able to give me a boro or quartz with the kit instead of the glass one. Thanks for the advice man, youve been really helpful.

Don't worry, a titanium nail won't break from the heat of a torch. You could apply heat to it for several minutes, and slam a dab down there with force and all that's going to possibly break would be the glass dabber. Most of the time glass nails and borosyndicate won't break either but when people heat them up red hot, then take a dabber / dab and apply pressure that nail is putting up with A LOT of stress. Over time the nail just can't take it, and usually with time they all end up breaking. Borosyndicate and quartz are both glass nails and they both have the same result.

Are they still efficient? for sure. Just depending on how much you dab, realize at some point you're PROBABLY going to have to replace it, no matter how careful you are unless you go with titanium. They also don't retain heat as much like I said, but that doesn't mean you can't get a nice milky dab off them. If you think about it in the long run and look at prices, glass nails aren't much to replace. If you aren't going to be smoking oil heavy I think you'd get away with a glass one fine.

if you're careful with the glass nail, it should be fine for a while. I have a Ti nail and it's FAR better than the glass one. I would just use the glass nail until it cracks, and then upgrade to a Ti nail if yuou don't want to spend too much right away. WHen I got my setup with the glass nail, the 18mm connector piece actually broke/shattered in a week and a half and I still have the glass nail sitting around somewhere. I've heard this can actually be a bigger problem than the nail itself breaking, because the glass nail retains heat for way longer and gets the dome/joint hot too if you leave it sitting there.

And Kaywholed, why do you prefer the skillet over a dome and nail?? I used to have a skillet so I have experience using both but I would never go back to using one after buying my Ti nail.

I still got a skillet, but I only use it when I've been drinking heavily. Thing is, when my nail is on my piece I can't just set the torch down on the table and chill, I actually have to hold the torch and aim the flame on the nail. With the skillet, I can just flip it up and at the right angle I can no hand torch the pad... When I'm drunk this just makes everything easier for me considering all I have to do is move the swing arm instead of drop a glass dome over a flaming hot nail and risk burning myself or breaking the dome. Don't drink and dab!

haha yeah i've forsure burned myself multiple times on the nail while drunk. Very good point. Last week my homie had the torch in the same hand the bong was in and burned his lip on the end of the (still very hot ) torch when he went to hit the tube haha.

I never like how it's harder to see the end of the dabber when hitting a skillet (although the surface area is greater). Plus, watching the smoke/vapor swirl around in the dome when you're hitting it is almost as good as the high/taste of dabs =D

Also, you seem to know quite a bit about this, do you know if Ti nails ever lose their heating properties? Will I ever have to replace it? Sometimes it seems like it takes longer to heat up than it used to, but that could also just be because I don't have enough butane in the torch or something.

I'm not sure on this sorry man. It's a possibility, but the reason titanium is used because it's reallllly hard to melt. Takes around 3000+ degrees farenheit to start going. I have no idea about the heat of the average torch, or if titanium can lose its heating ability. Personally, I've been using the same nail since 2010 and I've yet to notice any defects in terms of how long it takes to heat up / how long it stays hot.

I've always used a top load; it doesn't matter as long as you know how to dab and inhale with precision.

I guess a side load would be easier for some people who have tendinitis. If you're a fully capable person you should find both easy to use. I prefer a top load because I want to be able to see the wax hit the nail.

I like how the swing arm, there isn't multiple pieces to lose. Everything is attached.

I also don't like having to remove the dome to heat the nail again. but most people just take one rip and then pass out. I wanna hit that oil, again and again...
