just as the header says whats the difference between the two i just came across a oxycontin 20mg and i have a heavy heroin tolerance i know how oxycodone feels IV'd but what about 20mg of oxycontin? Is it pretty much exactly like oxycodone 20mg?

OxyContin is just a brand name. Oxycodone is the chemical name of the active ingredient in OxyContin. They're both the same thing.

I know that OxyContin is ER, I wasn't aware there was a drug called oxycodone.

Oxycodone is the drug name, OxyContin is a brand name. I think they just meant that generic regular release oxycodone is "IR" - regular ("instant") release - whereas Oxycontin is a brand name for extended-release ("ER") oxycodone. They both contain the drug oxycodone. But if one just has generic oxycodone pills it is important to find out whether they are IR or ER.

if you crush/cut the pill it breaks the time release (at least on the older ones) i think recently they changed the time release mechanism to help deter abuse/overdose but i cant remember.

^ Correct, the time release has been changed to a gel matrix in the newer pills, and it's now about imposible to safely inject them. Avoid.

To be honest, there was exactly the same thread yesterday. It might be a good idea for you to take a little look at the forum before posting.

To quote my last post in the thread:

"No, of course you won't get the same high. Because 50mg of Oxycontin is 50mg of Oxycodone with a time release mechanism - so it'll be slowly released with the Oxycontin, rather than INSTANTLY with the Oxycodone (unless you defeat the time release mechanism). [..]"

^ This thread deals with IV issues while the other does not, so I certainly see them as being different enough to both exist for the time being.

I think this has been answered enough times to count.
OP - as you know oxycontin is oxycodone in an extended release tablet.

If you have any more questions feel free to PM me.
