favourite oldskool rave track

Bloody hell BlueHues, 140bpm? 140 bleedin' BPM? I couldn't dance to anything that fast no matter how many bloody Es I had down me. 120's where it's at, spot on for some sexy ass-wiggling getting a groove going on. You could always spin the Technics up to +8 if you absolutely had to pick up the energy a bit but 140bpm? Madness! Bet they still played it on +8 too so all the squeaky voice samples got even squeakier.

Snowboarder, nice tune. Not heard that before, bit after my clubbing days were over but yup, would have moved and grooved to that nicely. =D

^HaHa! No I hear ya! I'm a straight old school deep house/acid jazz guy and some of the fast shit is hard to dance to...too fast to really dance right on the beat, you kinda gotta dance half-time....I was never a huge fan of that "hardcore house" or whatever they call it....but as far as being fast and still having "soul" goes, I really love those compilations, if nothing else just to listen too!

I have many friends who are/have been DJs throughout the years, and although I was a hard-core raver, I play rock music myself, so I tend to like shit that has instrumentation, although there's a lot of straight "electronic" shit I like too....I like shit that has feeling, regardless of how that's achieved....I am a big dancer though, no matter how ridiculous I may look! that's always what made me feel good about the whole thing!

Yeah, kinda same here. Shit guitar player brought up on '80s goth, metal and indie stuff. Hated dance music when it started being played a lot in clubs had previously catered to my crowd. Wasn't till I started working on the bar in one of Leeds' first big rave clubs and discovered E that it made any sense. Mostly into post-rock type stuff these days, bands with traditional instrumentation made more interesting with the kinda beats, electronica and multi-layered effects of EDM. Some beautifully crafted and intelligent, innovative stuff out there, all feel, but it's no good for dancing to and I do love my dancing. Probably look a right twat can't dance nearly as good as I think I can but on good E who gives a shit, just feels sooooooo good. Better even than sex sometimes on good E in a decent club with an up for it crowd creating the atmosphere rocking along to a DJ knows what he's about, nothing more euphoric. Good times man, good times.

Just recently discovered an old-school revival night in Leeds at the Warehouse with some of the DJs from the other main club back then that I worked in and knew pretty well, and others I got to know later. Top night out just before Xmas bouncing along to late '80s / very early '90s anthems. Even the stuff I'd have dismissed as pure cheese sounded good with 20 years of hindsight, just took me right back. Seared into my neural pathways those tunes, the brain never forgets how it felt to be rocking along to them first time out, the massive euphoria and daft grin threatening to split my head in two came flooding right back. Can't wait for the next one.

Couple of real nice ones there Fleea. Dreams of Santa Anna was a big regular spin, guaranteed to get a proper on one groove going. Another one I never knew the name of so cheers for that. That Annette tune don't think I've heard before, sure would have remembered something good as that. '88? You were in to the Hac proper early doors weren't you? One regret is I never made the trip over the M62 but IIRC they were already having serious gangster issues when me and my mates were out every weekend '90-91 and shut down altogether for a while some time round then cos of all the bloody Cheatham Hill and Moss Side gunmen and our local clubs in Leeds had everything you could ask for anyways but still. Graeme Park's playing the old school night in Leeds I was on about earlier this Easter. Never really rated what I've heard of him, he's a bit too soulful deep house for my mostly more upfront techno / progressive tastes but looking forward to giving him a proper spin out at last, never heard him play live.

Dunno if this technically qualifies as an old school rave tune but crowd went absolutely fucking nuts when this was dropped a coupla weeks back same as they always did 20 odd years ago whenever a DJ dropped it so seems they all counted it as one. Just realised Googling for it that he's not actually lamenting his lack of headwear. I've had this down as 'I got no hat' for the best part of 25 years FFS! :\

Cheers Sepher,GPs playing in old school in Leeds, even really old gits like me find that tempting, the Young MC tune is a real classic

Get yaself down Fleea. Could be a very good night. Just sent you a PM with the details.

Another '91 track I only found the name of last night. Lovely piano riffs and a great Candi Staton vocal. Sexy as fuck tune:

Would reply to PM but :)
"Sepher has exceeded their stored private messages quota and cannot accept further messages until they clear some space."

Ah, bollox! I hate deleting PMs. Some of them are like old friends! Cleared out the ones I can live without mate, can send now.

Got the Soundcloud you put up going. Not sure I've given Parky the credit he deserves. Some top stuff. Lot of it earlier than my time and not familiar with it but so remember this, just brilliant. Why don't they make 'em like this any more?

Having a suss of the music in this thread answers why the old school ravers say it isnt the same anymore.

After watching videos and listening to the type of music the 90s raves where plus the atmopshere of it all... I feel like im rolling but the way rolling should be done.

Todays "rolling" aint the same. Theres you answer to why it isnt the same.

Blusonic - Deep Sea Diver (DJ Taucher Tiefseetaucher Mix)
Best buildup ever. Brings me back.

Bringing this thread back to life with a beautiful song I almost forgot about...

the breakdowns in this track - independance by jonesy - are insane:

the one at 5:26 takes about 90 seconds to build. it's epic trance madness.
