Is this a trazodone or benzo withdrawal?

I took trazodone after quitting benzos (I used them on and off for about 8 months so my w/d shouldn't be that bad at all), I've been using it for a couple of months in total (I had some small benzo binges in between). When I quit taking the trazodone, I feel fine for at least 4 days, I manage to sleep 12 hours a night but on the 5th day I get bad restlessness and have trouble sleeping. I still managed to sleep about 8 hours last night in total but it was way harder to sleep than the previous nights. Would this be trazodone withdrawal symptoms that I'm feeling or would it be the GABAergics? I'd assume that if it were benzo w/d symptoms, it would kick in much earlier (i.e the 2nd day after quitting trazodone). I'm hoping its trazodone because that should be much easier to deal with.

Do you have other symptoms besides inability to sleep? If it were benzo withdrawal you be feel quite ill. (sweating, weakness, gastrointestinal, chills, dizziness, etc) I'm hoping it's just the trazodone too. Try some melatonin or benedryl and see if that helps.

Besides the restlessness/akithisia, the only problematic symptoms are lethargy (I've always had that though, thats probably not a w/d symptom and this has the upside of making it easier for me to sleep) and irritability/mood swings. I used to be too hot all the time, now I get cold all the time. Trazodone withdrawals can be pretty severe too but I think they take less time to recover from.

TCA's such as trazadone take some time to build up effective levels in the blood, and it takes time for those levels to fall down again, hence why you may still feel their effects after 4 days. I don't think what your experiencing are trazadone withdrawals especially after using it for 1 month.

The most likely scenario is that the trazadone is masking the benzodiazepine withdrawal symptoms, which take months or even years to recover from. Contrary to what you believe using benzodiazepines from 8 months is a relatively long time, given that most people report withdrawal symptoms from 2 weeks use.

it depends on a number of factors.

What benzo were you using ?
What dose ?
How often ?
how many days back to back ?

With benzos like valium and klonopin due to their extremely long half life, w/d takes a while to be fully felt.. if i take 6mg clonazepam everyday for a month and then stop it takes 4 days before any real bad noticable w/d symptoms are felt.
But with Xanax and its exxxtremely short half life, its a perfect recipe for disaster... w/d can be felt less than 2days after your last dose.
