My friend's boyfriend has oral liquid morphine. We were wondering if this solution can be injected. The solution is 100mg per 5 ml/20mg per 1ml. We just want to know if it can be iv right out of the bottle.

Welcome to Bluelight, you will enjoy it here. I would also suggest using the search tool at the top of the page, it is very useful. It took me a while after joining to figure it out. Sometimes it will pop up what you are looking for, sometimes you have to dig!

Try this thread....Please read through it completely and see what you find. I read glancing through that this could be a bad idea. I don't IV, but I would just want you to be safe. I do opiates up my nose, so I'm not here to judge, just to help :)

What exactly do you mean by liquid morphine? Is it a liquid oral solution or is it an IV solution? If intended for oral use, does it have any flavourings or sweeeteners?

;)

It will most likely be very irritating to the veins if you tried injecting. Could you provide a brand name or a list of ingredients? That way we can provide better advice. Definitely hold off on the idea until you are sure it's safe. (Which I doubt it'll be.)

those oral solutions contains dyes, flavorings, and other inactive which will be disastrous to the veins. if you were to do this, it could cause some conplications. there have been people who diluted their liquid oral methadone for injection using butterflies and multiple large volume syringes but this would not be conducive as the mixture ends up being like 5:1. water : oral liquid. so 1ml (20mg morphine) would require a 6ml solution to be injected, 40mg would be 12ml, etc. not exactly efficient or pleasant. from reading other posts of bioavailavility through alternate ROAs could just rectal administration of the morphine for a decent effect. apparently a rush can still be felt, and reduces the chance of major issues from taking place.

^I'm pretty sure even that can carry serious health risks.

Some "oral" morphine actually doesn't contain any flavours/sweeteners/dyes/etc and can be injected, so it's important to know what kind the OP has to determine whether or not it's safe to inject. But I really think the vast majority of them (particularly any prescribed from a pharmacy and not given in a hospital setting) are likely not safe for IV use, especially without micron filtering. If the OP doesn't know the manufacturer or ingredients it is definitely not worth the risk.

For example - these are all US brands:

Paddock Laboratories and Roxane Laboratories 100mg/5ml oral morphine sulfate solutions contain: morphine sulfate, citric acid, edetate disodium, glycerin, sodium benzoate, sorbitol, and water.

Mallinckrodt 100mg/5ml oral morphine sulfate solution contains: morphine sulfate, anhydrous citric acid, edetate disodium, FD&C Green No. 3, glycerin, purified water, raspberry cream flavor, and sodium benzoate; the pH of the solution is adjusted with diluted hydrochloric acid as needed.

Lannett 100mg/5ml oral morphine sulfate solution contains: morphine sulfate, anhydrous citric acid, edetate disodium dihydrate, glycerin, methylparaben, propylparaben, sodium benzoate, sorbitol and purified water.

If daviseyes responds with more info I could provide better advice on whether their formulation can be injected or not and/or what they could do to make it safer for injection (when possible).

oh by all means no, it is horrible for the veins. these people will more than likely have complications down the line. if you wanna IV drugs, gotta be responsible so you don't lose your "life lines". I iv'd h for 3 years and only have a small track mark about 1 inch long. BL gave me the tools to allowed me to "accomplish" this.
