the sex trade...your opinions

I just don't like being stereotyped for my sex. It's not like I would buy a prostitute to cheat on a loved one.

Yeah I know. I'm just thinking from their point of view. I'm sure they see a lot of shady nasty guys and plenty of cheating men. When that's what you deal with all day I'm sure it's got to put some stereotypes in your head. And well stereotypes are formed from an element of truth.

All of the prostitutes I know are drug addicts.

All of the prostitutes I know are the most sexist women I have ever met.
where are you from? and how many prostitutes do you know? should we draw any inferences from what one single person knows about prostitutes?

i do not know any prostitutes. however, i can imagine more of them do drugs than the average person. but it may just be correlation going on, not causation (i.e., it's not clear that they are more likely to do drugs *because* they are prostitutes). i imagine many became prostitutes due to economic distress or due to force/violence. probably, many were also socially deprived. all those factors may explain not only why they became prostitutes, but also why they are more likely to be doing drugs than somebody of better socio-economic status.

When I was 19 and an au pair girl in Hamburg, the wife threw me out in the middle of the night. I had nowhere to go, and didn't speak German then. So yes, I fucked for money just to survive. I don't see why prostitution is such major button pusher with so many people. Men wanted sex, I wanted money.

I do not see a problem with this.

Why did she throw you out? The world wants to know. How did you negotiate the sex if you didn't speak german?

Her parents had been visiting because she'd just had a baby...so, one day I was sitting around reading a book when her father grabbed the book and started yelling at me for some crazy reason. That night I wrote in my diary that he was probably an ex Nazi and should have been executed. While I was out of the house, the woman read my diary. (The diary was hidden at the bottom of my suitcase, by the way...not in plain view) When I returned, she was throwing my clothes onto the street.

Later that evening I was sitting on a bench in a park when a man came over to me (this was near the Reeperbahn, an area famous for prostitution) and just said, "You fuck?" as he nodded and smiled. I knew what he meant, it was obvious. So I went with him to a hotel and we fucked. After that, I knew which area to hang out in if I wanted to make money.

Anyway, I stayed in Hamburg for another three months and picked up the language quickly.

i think the view of prostitution is much different in europe than north america. My father lived in germany for 4 years and has many stories about the prostitutes there.

I really don't see prostitution as something that undermines relationships or love or anything. Sex is sex, love is love, different things. sex for money is not undermining personal relationships or intimacy, they are just totally different things. It's not like the girls are forced into it. There are also males who provide escort services, is there anything wrong with that? In the future i bet sex will become completely separate from a relationship and open relationships will be common. This is just archaic thought that sex and love are forced together and you are stuck with 1 woman the rest of your life unless you are a dirty low cheater or whatever.

thank you for sharing

I think prostitution is a tough business.
But I don't think that making it illegal helps at all.
In my ideal world prostitutes would first have to get a license and formal training before being allowed to work.

Sex for money is one of the oldest professions in human history, and I have no problem with it. It's my body and therefore my choice to sell use of it according to my terms.

The sex trade suffers from most of what ails it because of the laws that are in place to stop it. Society is too busy pretending that everyone is too virtuous to buy sex, or that only low lives do it. Hell, many in society don't even want to talk openly about sex at all! The truth is that everyone does it, from rich to poor, from famous to infamous. The taboo is delusional.

IMO the government wants to keep it illegal because they don't want the public to know that men like THEM use it.

1.) As others have mentioned, "sex trade" is a very broad term (so to speak). There are parts of it that are okay, and others you wouldn't want to touch with a ten-foot pole.

2.) For me, personally, it's not an option. Not ever. Whether the disgust I would feel going for a prostitute or escort is the result of my biased Judeo-Christian upbringing is irrelevant, IMO; it's hard enough for me to look in the mirror these days. Like Jack already said, it's hard enough forming real human relationships without short-circuiting it by paying for 20 minutes of nooky.

A girl goes out on a date with a guy, but won't have sex until after she's been given a couple trinkets and dinner at a restaurant. She then gets married, and the arrangement is the man pays for the house, bills, etc...and the woman is expected to sleep only with him for the duration of the marriage.

So again, what is our definition of prostitution?

not that i would...

But why not.. Why shouldn't women make some money on a mans inability to control himself..

I dunno yo. I've had girls that take me out and buy me stuff(because they made more $$ then me) and sleep with me.

And girls who slept with me without any exchange of material goods in either direction.

Your premises are demonstrably false; so while your argument is valid, it is not sound. Therefore, not only is not right, it is not even wrong!
(Which is worse than being wrong)

This counter argument is thrown around a lot and I don't agree. Yeah there are plenty of gold diggers but I don't think it's the stereotype. I think it's more that women want an emotional bond before sex and what better way to get to know someone than dinner or whatever. There are always exceptions but I think that is the difference not money or being taken out.

Put yourself in their place, or imagine your girlfriend, daughter, mother, or another female you love in that position and you should have your answear.

Is it a good or bad feeling? Would you be able to watch? Or be used by other men that way?

They have feelings and can suffer just like you and are someone's loved too.
