Fluoride Discussion

an old argument this one.

personally, i would rather see tap water without fluoride. call me crazy but when i want to clean my teeth i brush my teeth not go to the tap for a glass of water. i grew up without the shitty chemical in my water and my teeth are fine and strong. perhaps the reason oral hygiene is so bad particularly among children is diet. their is absolutely zero wrong or unhealthy about having water without fluoride. data collected over 90 years by fallible humans for fluoride v data collected from day dot. why would we risk putting such a nasty and dangerous chemical in the water supply, seems very weird to me, but hey, its probably very profitable for someone.

humans feel they can improve on everything, we get sucked in by ego and greed, more often than not we just fuck things up, next we will be eating genetically modified foods, because what people have survived on for thousands of years obviously wasn't good enough.

did you know it is also illegal to sell full cream milk straight from the dairy without it first being pasteurised and homogenised, go figure.

water supply around coffs harbour and bellingen area has only very recently had fluoride added (late 2010), all the years prior to this there were no health issues, and visitors would often comment that nymboida had great tap water. 'if it aint broke why fix it' - who is making the money from this odd little deal?

charles manson wanted to put lsd into the water supply but he wasnt allowed.

'its called progress people'

Tyrael you're fighting a losing battle here. Aus Social/Aus DD love their conspiracy theories and like to back it up as harm minimisation.

its a fucking fine line between sane and insane, seems to be more blurred as time goes on.

everyone is entitled to their opinion, but unless your opinion is profitable it don't mean much these days.

puffpuffpass - sorry i don't know what the fuck you are on about? is it really hard to stick to a topic that is being discussed instead of irrelevant info? i'm cool as a cucumber, mate.

Let me refresh your memory

which is where the mods come in with their actions and words with other members pulling people up when needed:)

Your the one who derailed it with your opinion about sanity lol

No. Tyrael, Puffpuff and others have contributed their opinions in an intelligent way and it is an interesting read. No ones fighting any losing battle here, it's a matter of opinion, just like I think you are a moron. My opinion, no conspiracy there.

Don't like aus dd and aus soc, then fuck off.

^ id have to +1 that there...perhaps the lounge might be a nice dive?

congrats to ppp you are now officially a bluelighter :) ...chill, were all friends here

that quote was in no relation to the matter at hand. take it a little more out of context why don't you?

i'm done with this stupidity.

i interpreted it as more of a go at the dr. its all relevant and open to interpretation. your sane is probably very different to my sane which would no doubt be very different to what uni's are teaching psychiatrist what normal is...today does normal = sane...i guess thats debatable.

there is a hell of a lot of sarcasm and bending of words on this site...time will tell you that. try not to take everything so literally.

i know i speak pretty fluent sarcasm as a second language :\

i'm done with this stupidity.
who you calling stoopid haha ayy

i mean in societies eyes everyone that posts in add is stooped, no haha. the line between sane and insane is a fine fine line...im going to finish this bottle of glenfiddich and beat my wife cheers

^you know exactly what i mean, wise guy :p

Neither was your questioning my sanity on the topic.

eat a teaspoon of concrete and harden up. it was a flippant, smart arse comment aimed at no one in particular.

laugh have you been to the castle parties out past bellingen before? Thora or Darkwoods area I think they were? Just wondering, I went a few times and had some pretty cool times. Last one was pretty hectic tho.

Back on topic, I have a water tank here, a pretty big one, at present I just use it for watering and incase of an emergency, but I wont to hook it up to the house mains if I can in time. Our town water supply now has fluoride in it as of 6 mnths or so ago, even tho there was alot of public out cry over it. I guess I could get a filter in the meantime if I wanted to.

Most of the water filter systems do remove chlorine and some contaminants. Carbon-based filters such as Brita, Pur and most refrigerator filters do not remove fluoride, but do remove chlorine and contaminants such as lead and arsenic. Boiling water does not remove the fluoride, but instead concentrates the fluoride rather than eliminating it. Freezing water does not effect the removal of fluoride.

Activated alumina filter media, bone char carbon, and reverse osmosis systems are the three EPA recommended methods for removing fluoride from drinking water. The activated alumina filter and reverse osmosis are available for in home use and are the most effective ways to remove fluoride in households. Bone char carbon only removes about 50-60% of fluoride from treated water and is used in some industrial systems for fluoride removal.

Distillation also removes fluoride from water. However, distilled water does not imply that a product is suitable for drinking water, as other impurities may still be present in the water with this process.

The water out of my tank is sometimes yellow and looks like crap for a bit till that layer passes, it's just the sediment tho im told, u run it for a while, then it goes to crystal clear. Id much prefer to drink that water only, if I had the money I would get it hooked up to the house with the pump.

Regarding filters on town water, there must be a few differing ones, as I have seen two different ones, im not sure how effective they are at all, but some research may lead to some answers. The first type at a friends house is under the sink and filters the town water (im not sure how or what it does), and the second one is those jugs that have the charcoal filter in them that you have top up with town water, wait till it filters thru then use it and refill the jug. They may not be 100% or even close, im not sure at all.

I think I recall in our paper here when there was alot of comments about this that someone mentioned that the fluoride would only be beneficial to young kids, i'm not sure if this is correct either, just some letter to the editor, but they went on to say how bad it is as well and they dont wont it in their water.

The comments in my local about this were on both sides, some people didn't care and argued it is safe, some people were saying it could be deadly over time.

Who knows what to believe, its upto everyone to form their own opinion I guess.

There is such a thing called fluoride sensitivity:

Fluoride sensitivity (i.e. not being able to tolerate any amount of fluoride in food, water, or even taking showers) may occur if one is fluoride poisoned, or it may occur if one is chemically sensitive due to toxic exposure to other chemicals or because of allergy or some other body imbalance.

We believe that many, many people are either fluoride poisoned or fluoride sensitive and simply do not know that they are. They know that they feel sick and may be treated for symptoms with any number of drugs, but neither they nor their doctors have any idea that fluoride is the culprit.

-
I have read stories of people not being able to have a shower because of this, problems washing hands ect.

Yeah that's horrible. I would imagine its a pretty small % of people that this happens to tho? It's bad that they have to put up with it, or try to survive with it, but I cant see what else they can do, some things happen and we cant control them, even if we protest and write letters to whomever. I guess people in that situation would have to try their best to get into an environment or area or place in their life where they could get a decent water tank and hook it up to the house for all their water supply. I know this isnt possibly for alot of people, renting, space restrictions, money, all sorts of reasons, and then when they goto others houses or hotels or whatever they would still have to use water that has fluoride in it. Sad but true. Some people have to put up with smokers second hand passive smoke as well, wont mean that tobacco will be banned either.

It's pretty shit and I would personally rather the councils or whoever does add the fluoride not do it, but I guess it's done in alot of areas and without alot of people dying or something not much will probably change. Was it laugh who mentioned there maybe money contracts involved with the decision? I wouln't doubt that.
