Ok, I'm prescribed a medication and when I went to have it filled the days supply read "9". 9 days for a amount that is usually no more then a 6 days supply sometimes its listed as less then 6. The total amount given is 180ml plus one refil(didn't get the usual 240 with 2 refils which sucks) and then the dosage is the usual 1-2 teaspoons every 6 hours as needed. Considering 6 teaspoons is equal to one ounce, the days supply should be listed as 6.

Can I still refill in 6 days? Not sure why this happened and is it the doctor or pharmacist who writes the days supply?

Its kinda quite simple, if you're familiar with being prescribed liquid medication but it does kinda sound like a SAT question.

1 tsp = 5ml.

you are rx'd up to 2 tsp per dose-

2tsp = 10ml.

you are rx'd this amount up to 4x/day.

10ml x 4 = 40ml/day.

you have 180ml.

divide 180ml. by daily dose of 40ml.

180/40= 4.5 days supply

you have a refill.

so 4.5 days + 4.5 days=9 days supply.

doctor writes rx..pharmacist deduces the days supply. :)

The days supply usually doesn't include the refill...maybe thats what they did this time, I don't know though.

Alright, I'll take that into consideration but do you think I should have any worry or complication refilling in the usual 6 days or so?

Interesting topic for me. I am prescribed medication w instructions that read "take 2.5 pills every 4 hours as needed for breakthrough pain ". Last month when I went to get this med, a pharmacy tech asked me if I "really took between 10-15 pills per day"...It caught me off guard for sure lol. I told her (honestly) no, so she said she was going to go ahead and change the "days supply" from 10 to 30, if that was okay with me. I said no, I would prefer 20 days if she felt the need to change it.
Anyway, I've gotten it filled once since then and I noticed that on the paper work for the most resent prescription it still had "days supply" as 10 days.... I then became curious and found the paperwork from the perscription I got on the day that this conversation occurred and surprisingly, it had the days supply as 10 also. SO, I'm wondering if maybe it's something that the pharmacy is unable to change? Or, maybe this girl just messed up somehow.
I guess there's no way to know for sure, but it's interesting all the same.

it's the computer. it does the math for them.
i wouldn't think that a pharmacy tech. could change the days supply, tbh.

Token, I thought the exact same thing! Maybe she actually COULDN'T and that's what happened! ! :) If so, it serves her right. she's not even someone I had seen there before, so it's not like we were familiar/friendly with each other at all. It definitely struck a nerve with me, that's for sure.

If the computer does the work then I wonder why there is inconsistencies for the same amount?

I've had a 6oz bottle with same directions, have like a 3 day supply listed, its usually like 5 or 6, but now 9.

What the fuck?
