The What's Good on TV Thread Vs. S'all Good Man

It just confuses me when I see someone that hasn't watched all of The Wire at least once.

LOL I know, like how is it even possible I missed it first time round? Read all the rave reviews when it first came out, but I'm like they always say that, only reason anything looks anything even approaching half-decent is cos 99% of the stuff is mind-numbing, tedious dross so stand-out telly is not difficult to do! I bet i don't watch more than 6 hours a week, and that's including the stuff I fall asleep on the sofa to on Good Food or summink every night when I get in from work.

interesting.

Let's do a bit of a TV confessional then.

I have not seen any of The Wire ... and
I have not seen any of The Sopranos

both are on the list of shit to watch tho

Saw most of Sopranos series one and two before losing interest though didn't have Sky then, not sure if all of it was even on terrestrial, I forget? Nearly done the four seasons of The Wire, often in three and four episode chunks the first coupla series, gripped me from the off. Watched first series of Prison Break religiously, series two just got bloody daft, lost all interest. Watched a bit of The Shield, lost the plot missing episodes there. Missed The Killing completely, looked like it would have bored me stupid what little I did see of it, keep meaning to check Sons of Anarchy more thoroughly but nope, not so far. Ummmmm . . . . can't think of anything else I absolutely should have watched recently`.

The only tv series I have truly enjoyed and loved are Nathan Barley(epic, Charlie Brooker is a genius), Trailer Park Boys, Generation Kill.

Watched the first serie of Lost in uni but lost interest afterwards, tried watching that zombie one everybody seems to be raving about, but didn't like it.

Band of Brothers and Flight of the Chonchords were also good.

seen season 1-3 of the wire

Liking boardwalk empire a lot at the moment as im cracking through, quality

I've seen random episodes on Sky Atlantic late at night but never in any order or very regularly. Looks decent enough but I wouldn't go track down the series to watch.

Finally up to date with Breaking Bad. Seriously, can't wait until 2013, for the next lot. Now, I know no-one will care, but series 2 of Shameless USA has just started in the UK. Believe me, this is my main reason for watching it:

And the fact she's often naked. She's portrayed to be a bit rough, and that makes me want to destroy her even more. :D

finished season 5 of breaking bad the other day, it was very good, didnt think it was as good as the previous seasons though

Dexter is fucking amazing, need to catch up on that

Pfffffft! I can't watch the UK version. Having lived most my life on estates very like the Chatham Estate it's maybe a bit too close to home for me to always see the funny side, you know, but I really enjoyed the US version. I know, go figure, almost sacrilege that I expect? William H Macy is bloody excellent in it though, more believable than David Threlfall IMO. Maybe it's the distance, the shift in perspective on to US streets I dunno. And Emmy Rossum is bang tidy, yes!

^^ That's possibly the worst pic I've seen of her. I agree she's totally hot as fuck, both characterwise and visually, but she's normally without make-up and looking semi rough and cute/skanky and all the better for it than with all that slap on

I LOVE Shameless US (seen seasons 1 & 2), but I don't really like the UK version much. They're two totally seperate entities imo. Lots of people hate 'remakes' which I can relate to, but to get into Shameless US you're best off just forgetting about comparing the two and instead just seeing them as two completely separate beasts altogether, because essentially they are.

It's acted completely differently and more drama than comedy, and the comedy that's there is way way more understated, yet it's still got belly laughs in there too. It's a little more serious, tons better production values and edited like a proper drama.

The acting is far far superiour imo and the pace is 100 times faster than the UK one. Just forget about comparing them and you'll love it. Lots of sex, drugs, shennanigans but way more engaging.

The cast is fucking stellar too .. William H Macy? He's a fucking amazing actor as always, one of the best. Just see him as playing Frank, but a different Frank to the UK one and it'll make more sense.

It's got Joan Cusack in too, and she's kooky yumminess personified, another actor who's been totally underused generally.

I don't normally watch the masterchef type shows but I'm watching Masterchef: The Professionals on BBC2 and there's this cook with the most bizarre mixed accent of Scottish and Danish. I love a Dansk accent, and Scottish, but together it's just fucking bizarre.

Totally agree with all that. They are totally different, despite the story being the same. I only put a dolled-up picture up, so people could see her when she's not made to look rough (which I fucking love).

Just starting on CH4 ... a politcal 4 parter .. looks ok and a pretty shit hot cast. Edge of Darkness was a bit of a classic

Secret State
Series 1 - Episode 1, Channel 4 10pm - 11pm.

From the apocalyptic opening scene, this political thriller – very loosely based on Chris Mullin’s novel (and then Bafta-winning drama) A Very British Coup – grabs you by the throat and doesn’t release you from its grip for a second. Think State of Play or Edge of Darkness.

Gabriel Byrne plays Deputy Prime Minister Tom Dawkins, who’s been left with a right mess to clear up after an explosion in an American-owned petrochemical factory in Teesside, which has killed several people and devastated the local community.

Journalist Ellis Kane (Gina McKee) smells a conspiracy, but although Dawkins is prepared to listen to her, his colleagues in the corridors of power are more interested in a looming general election. Adding to his problems, MI5 spooks are listening in to and watching his every move, determined to derail any investigations.

Charles Dance as Chief Whip John Hodder (a Francis Urquhart-style puppet master) is wonderfully reptilian, while Sylvestra le Touzel has hewn her tough and ambitious Foreign Secretary character from granite.

About this programme
1/4. New series. Political drama, starring Gabriel Byrne, based on Chris Mullin's novel A Very British Coup. Deputy Prime Minister Tom Dawkins vows to take on an American petrochemical company after a devastating industrial accident on British soil. Following the suspicious death of the PM in a plane crash, his understated ambitions are tested as two colleagues vie for the top job - but neither appears to have justice for those affected by the disaster at the forefront of their campaign. With Charles Dance, Stephen Dillane, Rupert Graves and Douglas Hodge.

I always loved Shameless(UK), tried watching the US version as it came out when I was living there, honestly couldn't stand it, thought it was really bad, the characters in the original version are just so much better, obviously the US version has had a much larger budget so they can afford better production and casting, but it felt plastic, I guess the orginal is almost like a mockumentary.

Forget that Derren Brown charlatan and watch BBC2 instead ... on now:

Attenborough's Ark: Natural World Special - 9pm - 9:59pm BBC2, BBC HD

With so many animals facing the same fate as the dodo, David Attenborough is spoilt for choice when he picks ten creatures to take on his imaginary ark and so save them from extinction. However, his top ten will surprise you if you were expecting pandas and tigers to figure. His selection is much more esoteric.

Most of us won’t have heard about, let alone seen, the solenodon (a nocturnal creature descended from T rex that lives in the Dominican Republic) or the olm of Croatia (a blind, worm-like amphibian that lives in total darkness). But whether it’s a Darwin frog (with its unusual breeding method), a cute mouse-like northern quoll or a baby Sumatran rhino, Attenborough talks about each with passion, wonder and fondness. His sweet exchange with a black lion tamarin monkey is simply enchanting.
About this programme
Naturalist David Attenborough chooses the 10 endangered animals from around the world that he would most like to save from extinction, explaining why these animals are so important and highlighting the work of biologists helping to keep them alive. His top 10 includes Darwin's frog, the Sumatran rhino, Priam's birdwing butterfly and the black lion tamarin.

It's got Joan Cusack in too, and she's kooky yumminess personified, another actor who's been totally underused generally.

She was absolutely brilliant episode one when he's in the bath and stuff. What deviant passions lie beneath her mumsy exterior! Love it!

Watched the first two episodes of A Touch of Cloth last night, very well done Charlie Brooker detective parody. Sometimes good old Airplane! style puns are best. John Hannah's really good in it too.

Oh, if anyone has Virgin, go to On Demand, and go to M+, there is a series in the section "what we are watching" called "Money" It's only a two part drama, pretty sure it stars Timothy Spall and is pretty old as Charles and Diana getting married is current news but it's a really good watch, check it out, I'd recommend it seriously.
