GHB Negative Health Effects (Not OD or Addiction?)

Finding it hard to find negative health effects from using GHB apart from OD and addiction. I just want to know the physical and mental implications of taking this stuff if there's any studies but I've been searching for days with no luck of finding anything. I'm talking about just health as well not the sort of stuff you may do on GHB or if you combine it with other drugs.

Thanks.

all negative fx come with addiction, its prety easy on the body otherwise

It really depends if its sodium based or not. Taking GHB recklessly can lead to dangerously high sodium levels in which can be very harmful to the kidneys and heart.

GHB is a fast acting, powerful depressant.

It will rapidly deplete your brain's reproduction of GABA. I believe this contributes to neurotoxicity upon the rebound. During the rebound you may experience hypertension/tachycardia.

Short term side effects may be caused by the Ph of the GHB due to poor clandestine lab conversion.
- Nausea
- Rapid Unconsciousness
- Vomiting
- Dizziness
- Low Blood sugar
- Hypotension/Hypertension (Doseage and time interval)
- Bardycardia/tachycardia (Doseage and time interval)
- Dilated pupils
- Irritability
- Loss of inhibition(Euphoria) and coordination
- Chest pains / anxiety
- Seizures (Lowers threshold)

Whether you are the GHB hobbyist or troubled addict, it is always best to test. pH strips can indicate a good solution from a poor one.

Are you interested in learning about the side effects, or are you just asking if it does any long-term damage to the brain/body?

Even if you don't have a lethal overdose, you can still get some nasty side effects. I have taken care of friends who were on GHB and were completely impossible to communicate, unaware that I was there, and doing crazy stuff like smashing their head on the floor over and over. Renz Envy listed many of the other side effects above. I don't agree that the side effects are solely caused by poorly produced GHB.

As for long-term effects, it depends how often you use it (and also on how it was made, how pure it is). In multiple animal studies, GHB has been found to be neurotoxic, reducing the number of neurons in the brain, and impairing things like learning and memory. Of course this is much more pronounced with chronic use.

I don't know whether or not it does any lasting damage to organs or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did. I can try to find out if you want. I've also heard if the pH is too high or too low it can cause damage.

Aside from mental addiction, GHB can also cause physical dependence, causing withdrawal symptoms when the person stops using it.

I would say if you're going to use it be very careful with the dose, start with a low dose, try to get as reliable a supply as possible, test the pH, and only use it once in a while, in order to try to minimize harm.

The pH of safe GHB liquid is generally between pH 6 and 8. You can use pH papers to test the acidity/alkalinity of their products and I've heard if it is too basic you then add a little lemon juice or vinegar to adjust the pH to close to 7.5, which is said to be ideal. Do you agree?

GHB, especially GHB crystalline "white powder" pharmaceutical grade made is not bad for your health at all. Yes, of course GHB can cause withdrawals as it is a GABA-B Agonist, and a GHB receptor agonist. But as far as GHB causing any "physical health damage to your organs etc" there is none. GHB is rapidly metabolized into carbon dioxide + water... leaving no toxic Metabolites....[Vickers]

^It's hard to know, that Vickers report was back in the 1960s when very little was known about GHB. I think GHB was mainly outlawed for "moral" reasons (because it gets people high) and because a lot of people overdosed. Personally I think the risks of overdose, addiction/dependence, poor manufacturing and unpleasant side effects are probably the worst risks with GHB as opposed to lasting physical damage. If only good quality GHB is used and only occasionally in small amounts it seems relatively safe. I've had some friends who used GHB regularly and it was not pretty so be careful.

^ It all depends on how good the GHB is manufactured, if it is the pure 100% white crystalline pharm grade powder than the health risks are very small, unless ingesting too much sodium over such a period of time. Other than that, NaGHB made properly is far far safer than Alcohol in terms of addiction/dependence, and unpleasant side effects.
