i been clean for 2 months, by my own choice, i was usin for probably 1.5-2 years, probably about 6mo's of actual heroin use, my roommate was prescribed 90 opana 20s a month for about a year which gave me an excuse to not try h, but anyways, i'd been doing h for about 5-6 months before i quit, i was getting a half to whole g a day to myself depending on whether or not my roommate had his own money or vise versa, about a month ago i sniffed about 2 30s just cause, and i felt like shit the next morning, but i was also drinking so idk if that was it how long does it take for tolerance to go down?

thanks in advance

and i know everyones different, just wondering what you all noticed about your own tolerance, not asking you to predict how fast my tolerance goes down/up, that would be impossible (:

your post is confusing.

but to answer your question opiate tolerance goes down VERY slowly. As of right now you could get high on 1-2 30mg roxis. but after 3-4 uses your tolerance will be right where it was when you quit using heroin.

yeah sorry, to clear it up, i been clean for 2-3 months, about a month ago i was able to get fucked up on 50 mg of roxi, i've been wondering because i've been wanting to get high again and don't want to OD cause i thought i could do as much as before

but thanks for the answer

^ This, and I second being confused by your post... haha.

This is one of the many things that sucks about opiate addiction and tolerance. Once when I got clean, and was clean for about 2 weeks, upon relapse I thought I'd be able to get high off of a portion of what I used to shoot... but NO. Once you get your tolerance up past a certain point... It's never really going to return to baseline again. It takes months and months for it to slowly lower. That rush will NEVER be the same as when you were just starting.

Edit: I'm sorry, I see you used to sniff... but the same logic applies :) .

Wait...what? You've been clean 2-3 months but a month ago you could get high off of 50mg of roxi? So you have not actually been clean for 2-3 months...

OH, do you mean you were clean for about 2-3 months, relapsing a month ago? And now you are considering getting high again?

^I agree and disagree. Tolerance goes down very quickly and if you attempt to use your usual amount of heroin, you could overdose. I've seen this firsthand in others and experienced it myself.
However, after a couple of days using, your tolerance will be pretty much right back to where it was when you quit, and if you keep increasing the amount you use, which is exactly what I end up doing, you'll be right back in it again.

I speak by IV Heroin use and being on Subs. 5 days after Heroin I find tolerence dropps fairly nice, I did 11 days clean but on 16mg bupe and I went 36hr and the rush came back I think 2 weeks would be perfect.

So slamming 3 bags in one to survive x 2 a day. Detox 10 days then fire 2 bags and you might overdose. Tolerence IMO is up and down quick

What goes down must come up.

yeah sorry about that too lol, it happened like this
i went to Fl to get clean, then, 2 months later hung out with my old buddy(the one i was doing most the dope with) and he was selling some 3s and were real good friends so he gave me 2 30s free

i havent done any since, except one other time, but that was cause my friends landlord like pushed 7 vicodin down my throat(he was a very intimidating biker dude, who insisted i accept his offer), but i wasnt really high so i didnt count that

Just be careful. I've taken breaks before (from IV heroin) ranging from a few days to a week, and being too confident when it comes to this subject will no doubt end in overdosing. You can always do more. You can't do less.

I couldn't disagree more, tolerance goes down soooooo frickin slowly. But yes, the part about users overestimating their tolerance and then overdosing after a decent break being a issue to be aware of.

I posted somewhere else here on this.
I've been to detox 10+ times in my life and have been using IV heroin on and off for 16 years. Not bragging, just saying.
If you are doing 10 bag shots and you go to detox for a week and attempt to shoot 10 bags of heroin, you will at the very least probably wake up hours later wondering what happened, if not dead. It happens all the time. There's a wall of obituary cut outs at this particular detox illustrating this.
However, as I said, your tolerance will return to it's previous level very rapidly and you'll be able to use as much as you previously did within days.
Surely, you're not suggesting people who have had large opiate habits and haven't used for a period of time, assume they have the same tolerance and immediately resume using the previous amount that got them high? People go to detox specifically so they can get high again when they get out.
Of course, I'm talking primarily about IV heroin use. Occasional recreational use of say...hydrocodone 5s might be a little different.

Once you start using again your tolerance will rapidly skyrocket within a few days, which is an accepted fact. When someone has used opioids in the past and takes a break, when they start using them again their tolerance will increase much more rapidly than tolerance would build in someone who was using opioids for the first time. A significant portion of their highest past tolerance will return within a few days.

As for the part about tolerance going down quickly or slowly when you stop using for a while, for me, I have to agree with the people who say it tends to go down relatively slowly, but this is hard to quantify because it depends what one's definition of "fast" and "slow" are. After being dependent it never seems to go back to where it was before ever using opioids. But it is very important to remember that we are all different and that a lot of people overdose after a period of not using opioids because they assume their tolerance is still going to be the same as it was before they quit. So since we can't know in advance what our tolerance is going to be, it is always safest to start with a small amount.

Study about naltrexone if you wish to lower your tolerance (and possible even keep it low while using).

Maybe I am stupid, but I can't clarify if the OP is sniffing or shooting their dope. IMO it is harder to overdose due to tolerance dropping, when you're sniffing.

THIS... well written. I knew someone who overdosed due to their tolerance dropping... but I think this was due mainly to the fact that they also had clonazepam in their system.

Well - FWIW - a while ago I was using about 1g / week for about 6 months, then stopped completely for 3 months, when I used again my tolerance was basically completed gone.. In fact - the first time I used again I took a (relatively) small dose and actually OD'd (although, I'd taken some xanax and had been drinking, so it definitely wasn't just the gear. I used again about 3 days after the OD and I was in the land of nod and had weird-ass visuals and everything, like it was my first time !

Tolerance came back mighty quick though, within about 3 weeks I was using about 8X the dose I OD'd from and was hardly getting stoned :/ good times.

One other thing; if you're IV'n your gear, it always pays to be doing it on the side of caution, you can always redose quickly if it's not what you wanted, but you obviously can't undose. Ridiculously obvious advise of course; but it's a pretty common way to OD, thinking you can have an amount similar to a regular users dose, when you've taken a break for a while. Especially worth taking small 'bumps' if you're on your own - when I OD'd I was lucky enough to have my fiancee with me and she was able to perform CPR until the ambos arrived, if I was alone it would have been game over, as I completely stopped breathing and went blue.
