In his previous cultural treatises, comedian Rich Hall has been a lone wolf, howling in despair at the lack of profundity in American life. But here, as he tears into the misrepresentation of native Americans in film and literary works, he is joined by Dallas Goldtooth, a Lakota/Dine comedian, to help explain the complexities of Indian life.
This is a serious effort that strives to shine a light on the tragedy of the American Indian experience and give a voice to a forgotten people. But still there is room for Rich to bring his acerbic mix of weariness and indignation to hilarious swipes at everyone from John Ford and Richard Harris to Billy Connolly and Miley Cyrus.
About this programme
Comedian Rich Hall goes in search of the real American Indian, often stereotyped in popular culture. He explores a different idea of what life is like for the race today, with the help of native Dallas Goldtooth. He also questions the screen image of the `savage Indian' in films such as Soldier Blue, Stagecoach and A Man Called Horse, before visiting the Navajo Reservation in Arizona and Pine Ridge in South Dakota, home to many of today's natives.
