So i was kicked out of my house , seeing as my parents thing being 21 im too old to live with them .

I have my plane ticket to Fl , and I'll be going to Hobe Sound Florida .

I know nobody there , have 50$ in my pocket once I arrive , and now what ?

Can anybody please help and tell me what i can do to get on the right track ? Should I emancipate from my family ( then again I'd need to go to court right ) So I could get welfare ?

is there anyway I could live on a part time job ? Any ideas where I should look ? I assume I'm going to have to get an appartment in some sort of ghetto but I know nothing about FL , , so as soon as I arrive with my 2 luggage bags I'm on my own and i need to make moves ASAP . Honestly , I'm scared as im 21 and don't want to be homeless . I know DSS doesn't help with a sober house weather I was using drugs or not .

Can someone please give me advice on what I should do ?
Im desperate , if someone could please answer me ?
Is there anyone in FL looking for a room mate ? I'm a clean cut 21 year old 10 months clean of all drugs ,

Any advice would be so helpful , I just dont know where to start when I get there.

you are 21...you are free to do what you want and have been for 3 years. why would you need to emancipate seeing that you are of legal age? Moving somewhere new with no money and no place to stay is not very smart and with only 50$ to your name you are fucked. I hope its warm durring the winter in that part of florida because you are for sure going to be sleeping in the park for a good long while.

Find a homeless shelter and use their help to find a job fast. the quicker you have work the more likely you are to make it.

Thinking this will get more quality replies for the op in TDS.

Can you move to California instead? I'm homeless too all I have is a car to sleep in. It's very easy to get food stamps here, it's 200 dollars a month and you can get them at any convince store pretty much just fill the forms out and they give you a debit card you can buy food with.

They also have room vouchers in some city's so you can at least take a shower once or twice a week. My mom still pays for my gym membership so I can shower every day. Then you can sit at one of the temp agency's and wait for a job call to come in. Lots of lonely older people call with odd jobs they need help with around the house.

Most will talk your ear off but once you find enough of them you like you can set up working for them with having the agency take part of your money. Kind of like a pimp.

california is much more expensive, the cost of living is tremendously larger than most states... and first thing i would do is locate a homeless shelter, they will feed and put you up in a bed for free while you get on your feet and figure out the area. In my opinion it is not a smart idea..but do what you want, cause thats what matters.

id hit a wellfare office near their too, if you do hit a homeless shelter, people there will know where that is. For jobs id try craigslist to start, until you figure your way around. its a site where people post jobs for ANYTHING. from washing windows, to manager of a company. check it out www.craigslist.com

Good luck man

I'm unsure of where in FL that is, but i know that, in my area (pinellas), there is such a large homeless population that virtually any and all services are available to you.
Honestly tho, DWE is probably right - being around that crowd will likely turn you to a basehead lol, and - if i can be brutally honest - whatever the reason is that you only have $50 to your name, will likely crush you once you're on the streets.

/any possibility of just getting a broken leg and staying home via pity? (unsure if i'm serious or not..)

Wow your parents sound fucking heartless 50 bucks that is a fucking joke. Do you not have any friends or family you can stay with anywhere else? Its a really bad idea to go somewhere you have zero support system with no money. Maybe cash that plane ticket in for money and stay near your home now? Another problem is to get state assistance you will need to prove residency in that state for a certain amount of time. if you have to go to Florida then I would be on the phone now looking for employment and places to stay.

Quantz, are you going to Florida just because it is warmer and you are thinking about having to be outside? I agree that just landing somewhere with $50.00 is going to be pretty hard and I would consider saving the plane ticket money for something that could set you up nearer to where you are. On the other hand, maybe just throwing your fate to the wind in a new place will be the biggest adventure you've ever had and something you can look back at someday as crazy but it all worked out for the best.

I met a kid at the gym a while back that had a pretty creative gig going but he had a car. He lived in his car and delivered pizza for his living. He joined the gym which is a 24 hour place and so he had access to showers etc. and he said other than the gym membership, which was $30.00 a month, his only expense was feeding himself. He was actually saving money and had a few hundred saved up. He also volunteers at a soup kitchen for the homeless a couple times a week and gets to help make and eat a very nutritious meal. When he drives around delivering pizza he checks out the fruit trees that have fruit hanging over the street so he gets free fruit. There are some very creative homeless people out there!

Good luck. I hope you can stay in touch. Try to get involved with some social services wherever you go.<3

^Good for him, he sounds like someone who certainly knows how to make the most out of a bad situation.
That's the sort of bloke who given a chance could end up making a lot of money and doing very well for himself.
I know if I was homeless I would probably fall to pieces but that guy has got a bloody good head on him.

Find Food Not Bombs, it's a nonprofit in any major city that prepares and serves home cooked veagan meals for free, it's the shit.

Also, try to reach a mutual understanding with your parents, fifty bucks is barely enough to cover food and a newspaper in the airport, let alone sustain any sort of new-start status.

I deleted that link because Martin county main services were for displaced families or battered women. There are places to give food but not shelter. I checked Pinellas County and they have many shelters. Too bad you have to be a resident of that county. Some places 3 months, even the tent place said six months residency.

The reason is Florida is a transient state, especially during the winter months. I worked at a shelter in Hollywood that sometimes made an exception, but it had to be cleared by the director But many homeless people don't have ID to show where they lived. So every situation is different. Many run criminal background checks too because felons with active warrants can hide easily at a shelter. You're better off cancelling that plane ticket and finding a place near home until you can get back on your feet.

New York is a big place. They must have good programs and shelters to help you. If it was me, I would try staying with family or friends but if that's not possible then find a shelter.

i have been homeless a couple of times due to my relationship with my parents.

location does matter somewhat. some cities are more horrific in that situation, others are "sanctuary cities". weather and services available play into it, and with that comes different types of people who are also homeless.

of course, try to stay wherever you can that is safe. i assume if you could stay with your parents at all, you would try to do this. i advise that.

if you cannot, try to build your social network as fast as possible wherever you end up...without getting caught up in activities that will just further drag you down and make you unemployable or unproductive.

their branch on my side of the bay is a bunch of punk kids who have zero actual reliability, and just do little 'missions' when they feel like it. absolutely not something that'd be reliable in any way whatsoever. Around here churches are where the free food is, you will see lines *all over* towns in this area at dinner time outside of churches.
/but ya food not bombs around my area is typically drunk/high idealist punks. i've seen them a bit 1st hand, as my brother was involved with it (practically spearheded it)

i imagine that saint petersburg is pretty up there in 'sanctuary cities'. hell there was the whole "tent city" drama couple years ago! but st. pete seems to have *every* amenity homeless could expect, including dense city and great transportation. and there's a million things to do there w/o much cash.
/lived there for a while, although not homeless, but would easily rate it one of the best areas i've ever lived - and as i'd routinely score ndtitl from homeless folk, i can assure you their lifestyle was unlike anything i'd ever seen/imagined being homeless would be.
