[MEGA]Community Growing advice, tips, tricks, & experiences Part 5 (2012-2013)

I was asking if the trichs can be striped off of the plant material with alcohol? I know how to tell if the plant is ready to harvest I've just never heard of stripping the trichs with alcohol only butane.

I was adding to Foreigner's post rather than answering yours. To answer your question, yes. See ISO hash.

Those buds look like their full of seeds what happened to them?

If you're talking about the photos in the harvesting guide I posted above (I assume you are), I can't see any buds that look like they're full of seeds at all. Which do you mean?

So I just bought a "CLOSETMAID 2-Door Stackable Organizer" its dimensions are 31.5 inch high, 24.13 inch wide & 11.63 inch deep, will these dimensions be sufficient to grow one-two plants? How many plants can I fit and will it be a big enough space to do the job correctly?
I also bought 3 40watt 2700 colour temperature CFL's & 1 42 watt 6700 colour temperature CFL, I'm going to go back tomorrow and buy another 2 6700 colour temperature CFL's. Will 3 40watt 2700 colour temperature CFL's be enough light for 1-2 plants during the flowering stage? Will 3 42 watt 6700 colour temperature CFL's be enough light for 1-2 plants during the vegetation stage?

The top and bottom one both pics look like the have seed pods like a stressed plant would have, I've seen it before my uncle and father have grown for as long as I can remember I was trimming buds when I was old enough to hold clippers. they would take my clippers hand me new ones cleaning the tricombs off to save for them selves( I know this now) I just thought they were making it easier for me.

They look very nice though I just wish I wasn't allergic to the flowering plants. There's no better smell than those flowers IMO

thanks to the people who replied to my question about harvesting, and to the mod who who moved my post...must've missed the mega thread.

What you're seeing there are the plant's calyx, which swell on sinsemilla plants even if the pistils are not fertilized. I wonder if we're looking at the same thing? Often you can pick off the calyx and you would think they have seeds inside only to find they are empty. The plant in that pic looks a picture of health. It has what are known as 'stacked calyx'. People often confused these with foxgloves and it's something you see on some plants when the conditions, strain and phenotype are conducive to their formation.

By the way I hear extracts can work really well for the very rare people that are genuinely allergic to pot. Might be worth a try.

On another note Prelude, adding to our discussion about the harvest window, here's a pic just for you for future reference:

Tip: For any out door growers with snail problems. I just discovered copper tape, its only good if you have the plants in pots but they fucking hate it! I did an experiment and left one plant that was big enough to handle some chewing with out it and it was the only one they touched. Apparently it gives the snails an unpleasant sensation something like an electrical charge. Less need for poison is always good in my opinion.

I have updates about my grow, I have one "CLOSETMAID 2-Door Stackable Organizer" that I will use as my grow box its dimensions are 29 inches high, 11 inches deep and 24 inches long. I have 2 autoflowering strains one is BigBang the next one is 60 day wonder. Both strains are feminized seeds and they flower automatically and don't grow to big so I think they will be more suited for my space. Do you think I would be able to grow 1 of each strain (2 plants total) in the grow box that I have or would it just be better to grow one plant? I was planning on using the LST method to grow the crops to utilities the space that I have?

I have acquired 5 40watt 2700k colour temp CFL's plus 1 30 watt 2700k colour temp CFL. Total CFL wattage for 2700k colour temp: 230 watts. I also have one 42 watt 6500k colour temp & 12 23watt 6500k colour temp CFL's. Total CFL wattage for 6500k colour temp: 318 watts. I know these plants are small and I've heard a rule of thumb 100 watts per plant 50 watts per additional plant. I personally was thinking of just giving each plant the equivalent of 100 watts each. Would that be overkill or do you think giving them 100 watts each would help them grow? As far as lighting schedule (i.e. how many hours light how many hours dark) I've read some success stories with the 20/4 light cycle so I think I'm going to do that throughout the entire grow. Any input on light cycle to use would be helpful?

I was going to use a 230mm computer fan as an outtake fan at the top left corner of my box, then using passive intakes for my intake. For a passive intake I was thinking of cutting a 2inch circle in the bottom right corner of the box and attach 2, 1.25inch ABS 90 degree elbows put together to create an S shape, that way the light in the box won't be able to escape and the light from outside won't be able to get in during the 4 hour lights off cycle. The pieces I was going to use for this were ABS 1.25 inch, they are 2 inches in diameter, so if I made a 2 inch hole in the bottom right corner of the box they would fit right in. Do you think that idea would work? Is the 230mm fan a big enough fan to deal with all the ventilation in a room of that size? Would the plant be getting constant fresh air? Or is the 230mm fan too big what size fan and CFM would be adequate for the grow space? Also, is one passive intake enough to keep fresh air coming in or should I add an addition one? Does it make sense to add the "S shape device" on the 2 inch passive intake holes to prevent external light from influencing the grow?

I bought a digital thermometer that I'm going to put in the room that keeps track of the active/current temperature and the minimum temperature and maximum temperature for the day. It also reports the current/active humidity level and its high's and low's for the day. The dresser is already coloured white, its like a plane white that most white build it yourself furniture have. Should I just leave it with the white colour it came with or paint it the "advised" tone of paint that is the best for reflexion?

Since the plants are autolfowering they flower relatively soon compared to other plants. I've heard that they veg for about 2-4 weeks then flower incredibly quickly. I've heard mixed results about what colour temp CFL's to use, I've heard of people using 2700k the whole time & 6500k the whole time. As well as people who use both colour temps through the entire grow. Should I grow it like a normal plant 6500k colour temp CFL's for veg stage and then switch to 2700k colour temp CFL's for the flowering stage. If I do, do that how many weeks do I wait to switch from veg colour temps to flowering colour temps? (i.e. how long should I leave the Veg CFL's for before switching to the flowering CFL's? Also, what physical symptoms can I see on the plant that will inform me the plant has undergone the flowering stage and that it is time for the appropriate flowering lights? Any advice regarding what colour temp CFL's to use with an autoflower strain and when to use them? Lastly what humidity leave should I keep the box at throughout the grow? Minimum humidity level? Maximum humidity level? What temperature level should I keep the box at throughout the grow? Maximum temp? Minimum temp?

I know those are a ton of questions but if you find time to eventually answer them I'd appreciate it so much

Found 45+ seeds in a quad from the medical shop?

I recently purchased a quarter OZ of Louis XIII (7/10 smoke) from a local dispensary and noticed that i was finding a good amount of seeds, I broke down the entire sack and found 48 seeds (45 mature) in total. This raised a few red flags as i have never encountered bud this seedy, not even with bunk (this stuff smokes great).

So since i've never seen this before i was hoping someone might enlighten me as to how this happens, as well as the effect it might have on the bud.

could be that some male pollen got loose, or they turned hermpahrodite. i will say that 45 seeds in 7 grams is kind of a lot. was it outdoor grown? or maybe the lower end stuff they sell? just because there are seeds doesnt mean its not good bud. just that some seeds happeneed to appear.

Which is the grower fucking up...
or they turned hermpahrodite
Because the grower fucked up. There's not really any excuse for this in my opinion, the sensimilla technique is something that any grower worth his salt should be au fait with. If you paid anything like what you usually do for top-shelf bud, take it back and complain. You have a smaller quantity of lower-quality weed than you would have it had been grown properly, and that's just not on

just give them a call and tell them whats up. I bet they will give you a replacement strain. They might not even want the seedy bud back. win-win for u

From a dispensary? The grower shouldn't be selling seeded bud and the dispensary should be screening it out anyway. Dispensaries should in theory be inspecting all weed for mold, contaminants and of course, seed, so it says a lot about the sort of operation they are running. That is partly what they're meant to be there for, otherwise they're no better than a dealer.

What causes it? Either not removing males quick enough or either an intersex or hermie.

Hey guys, I'll be parking here for the rest of the year. I just got my veg room set up (minus the black plastic, thats tomorrow) and I have an 8 bulb t-5 veg light, 2 skunk seedlings, two GDP seedlings, and two blue dream clones. I think they have a ph induced boron or calcium deficiency because of the yellowing leaves, brown spots, and slight burn on the new growth. I added some salt and I'm going to start being more careful with my water PH.

Can't wait to keep you guys updated :)

Going to merge this into our Growing thread as you will get the best responses there.

This.

Also, WHATTUP YER--- uhh... I mean Vader!? Nice to see you around.

Not bad at all mang, keepin' it real, been living in a field all summer working music festivals, hopefully off to France for the winter, can't complain at all. What's good with you? Didn't this forum have a social thread?

Still harvesting, trimming. Between work, School, Therapy, Trimming, Gaming and my Girlfriend, I haven't had much time for anything lately.
I cut back on smoking a huge amount, Only smoking on weekends now, hoping to lower my tolerance, and see how it feels to not be smoking.
Suck how irritable I am when I'm not smoking, and it's worse than normal, but I've always been an easily irritable person.
Weird how I actually want to go outside and do things now, haha.

Anyways, I am still looking for a vacuum pump for the hash.
I still have yet to make any, as time has been ridiculously constrained.
Hopefully I can get some time for myself this weekend , trim and make some hash out of the buds I cant use.

The buds I ended up being able to leave out there a little longer look great. Started to turn purple as the weather is getting cold.
Wonderful smell. I look forward to being able to smoke it and try it out soon.
I still have one sativa plant out there, but it's a tiny single cola maybe the size of a soda can, (it was the plant that flowered WAY too early , during 15-16 hours of light)
Thanks for all that info AE, think I might have gotten some of the plant a little to early, and the rest at perfect timing.

Quick question, If I veg a plant indoors, and winter rolls around , is there a point where I could throw the plants outside, and have the flower outdoors before spring/summer rolls back around (say I veg all of December, would January or February have about 12-14 hours of light to flower?)
Just curious to see if I can get the Kumanoi/Lebanese seeds going this season, as I dont think I can go indoors due to the height restraint, unless I flower very early, even then, Im not sure how large they would get, as I've only grown hybrids.

Iman, I agree with AE, you will probably be disappointed, unless you smoke VERY small amounts of bud, don't care about the yield, and you're just growing for learning purposes, go for it, but if your a smoker, and you want a good amount, you probably won't get what you're hoping for.

Hey Prelude, good to hear from you.

No you can't do that practically in your situation unfortunately. If you try it the plants would be pretty much ruined I'm afraid. They can be grown indoors and flowered easily though. You will want to restrict pot size to only about 1L right up until 2 weeks into the flowering period (12/12) and at that point, pot up into as large a pot as possible, 15L say, until they finish. Without pot restriction it may be difficult to manage but with pot restriction it will be fine. Trust me, it's well within your capability so I would go for it.

Although it is not good to label it as either an indica or sativa* if you had to it would be a 50/50 indica/sativa, like many strains are, so it won't be nearly as bad as you probably think. The Lebanese, which is closer to being an indica than anything else, will certainly do a pretty good job of controlling the height I would say.
