I would very much like to think people like that are rare, most crimes of this type are committed by people known to the victim and not random dossier roaming our streets.
Statistics are pretty much useless given the numerous incidents that inevitably go unreported.
I don't think you can separate the two, Mr Savile was 'known' to his victims. Be it a celebrity, neighbour, sports coach or uncle as you say it goes unreported and there's a lot of work to be doen in dealing with this issue and making young people feel they can speak out and they will be listened to. False allegations are so awful but a proper process for assesing and dealing with reports would help avoid them, at the moment everyones just making it up as they go along and its the children who are suffering.
I remember when I was a kid my mum telling my dad off for giving a kid a lift somewhere, they discussed it for ages, her saying he shouldn't and he saying he should out of principle. And when I was a kid this old guy picked me up off the bus stop and insisted on giving me his wallet to hold for the duration of the drive as security, for me or for him I'm not sure but we had a long chat about how a previous girl he gave a lift to ripped her shirt and blackmailed him for cash. Maybe he was a nice old guy, maybe I was being groomed and he hoped I'd be out on the bus stop again.
It is sad for guys particularly atm23, I totally agree.
