Here's my question: since I can't drink, would you say that opioids can be a good replacement for alcohol as far as having something to give you a buzz to go out and party on? I have a history of having gone through benzo withdrawal, and I would really like to limit anything that affects GABA, including alcohol. So instead of drinking, will snorting a few oxys on a Friday night make going out to a club or bar with friends a fun, enjoyable expeience? Part of me almost likes the fact of having pleasure while being able to not lose your mind and get retarded like you do on alcohol.

Well, oxy will probably make most things fun =D be careful you dont just swap a benzo habit for an opiate addiction. Opiates are not the best party drugs anyway (the exception for me would be tramadol) and nodding out on the dancefloor is just plain dangerous ;)

no, opiates act on diffeent receptors than alcohol. benzos are more like a replacemet of alohol

Opiates aren't good party drugs, imo... I can't imagine going clubbing on oxy, and I don't imagine being high on opiates, while everyone else is drinking at a bar would be much fun either...

Also, due to the whole addiction and tolerance thing, you can't really take opiates more than once a week (at the most)... I don't know how often you want to go out, so this may or may not be another reason not to replace alcohol with opiates. The fact that you have had problems getting hooked on other downers is another related reason not to do this...

Valium is similar in structure to Alcochol.

This would be a good benzo to try.
No, valium is not similar in structure to alcohol. The effects profile of benzos is similar to alcohol, but the structure is dramatically different, and they bind at different sites on the same receptor.

Plus OP has been addicted to benzos in the past, and wants to avoid GABAergics entirely - so no alcohol, no benzos, and no other GABAergics (such as Soma, which I sometimes use as a replacement for alcohol, a role that it performs very well ime).

Idk, i mean if you really like alcohol and its affects, opiates (even though they are downers) dont really replace the same 'feeling' as when your drunk.

As for going out i wouldnt recommend opiates for that becuase first there more addicting and if you go out a few nights a week you cant throw in some roxies everytime cuz that is just bad. Besides weed, i cant think of any other drugs that you could 'safely' replace alcohol with and get fucked up without the addiction potential.

Horrid idea.... I am assuming you are ceasing alcohol due to addiction... Do not trade one addiction for another... Especially alcohol for opiates... Just horrid idea...

Skullcap is a very good herb to make into tea that works on the benzodiazapine area of the brain. It is completely legal and easy to find. You just need to make sure you get the right variation of skullcap (blue skullcap I believe). You can find this herb easily at bulk herbal stores or even in supplement form.

Opiates are in no way a party drug... You are better off smoking cannabis, which can also be a problem as any drug can be.

Alcohol works on a lot of receptors, and out of the common classes of drugs (alcohol, opiates, stimulants, cannabis, benzos/downers) only alcohol and opiates work on both the dopamine and opiate receptors in your brain. In that sense they're similar, and anecdotally every opiate user I've ever known (including myself) is a big drinker.

That said, replacing alcohol with opiates is going to end in addiction. At best, you could maybe use opiates as a once in a blue moon kind of thing, but since you were already addicted to something? Might as well just book your trip to rehab now.

OP, what are your thoughts on stimulants. Having tried most things, they are the best social/party drug class IMO.
Not recommending them, simply trying to answer your question.

I'm sorry but we don't allow what should I take threads. You're trading one addiction for another. It's a recipe for disaster.

Opioids are a horrible replacement for alcohol, as are benzodiazepines. Ask your physician.
