I got into hip-hop quite late, must have been 15. The first two albums that I owned and repeatedly listened to were Chronic 2001 and Brand New Second Hand.

I was fortunate enough to be exposed to both UK and US (and other countries) as soon as I got into rap. Orifice Volgatron was two years above me at school, but back then he was a distant character still doing his dnb be thing, Foreign Beggars were just a twinkle in the soap bar dealer's eye.

I soon got involved in the whole 'elements' thing, and (regrettably now) Hip-Hop was my religion, I was already a good dancer, but never really got into breaking...
however I soon owned a pair of second hand PDX-2000's and bought my own PMC-06 mix tick: played through a 5 year old christmas present hi fi I had the classic bedroom DJ set up. Under the the tutelage of the guy that had sold me the decks I was soon scratching, beat matching, juggling, and most importantly crate digging. Not for samples for producing but for classic dance floor fillers.

For a few years me (DJ Backroll and Taffa) ran hip hop nights in a certain northern city. They were great days, and if it hadn't been for drum 'n' bass, heroin, and the girl carrying my child I would still be tearing it up no doubt.

Another reason is because I really did love the b-boy thing, I loved nothing more than playing for breakers or dropping instrumental after instrumental for MCs. And of course, as your classic b-boy bummer I have over 20 cautions for criminal damage, two major court appearances, and countless stop, searches, warnings, fines and warnings.

I fucking love Hip Hop, and the b-boy lifestyle but (as a white immigrant kid in Britain) it got me in a lot of trouble. You would cream over my record collection...never pawned any of it! Not even my 1s and 2s!

Sorry I don't post in the eadd hip hop thread more...probably should!

Here are some big inspirations for me: (As in music I tried to own on white label before general release)

Foreign Beggars
Rodney P (and Skitz of course)
Taskforce
Braintax
Jehst
Skinnyman

and at the time from abroad:
Dre and Slim
Nas

All these people made me DJ, write lyrics, MC pathetically, write graffiti (ruthlessly), and wear clothes that made black people that didn't know me either hiss at me or call me fed! Lol. Great days. Hip Hop 4 Life. I was fortunate enough to hang with some of them, and get up to some right fuckeries!

"Sitting in student digs eating tins of tuna, who spent the rent down the boozer?"

Dirty Dyke holding it down as an all round b-boy tellin ya! For those that don't know he ain't just the best free-styler in England ya know ;-) As he will tell you now...

Does anyone like SAS Eurogang? I think they got some quality punchlines and beats. They get more respect in Canada and US it seems. They have more of American style is why I guess. They are good rappers though.
