EXTREME Benzodiazepine tolerance.

^ Crazy ass Canadians with your ridiculously generous taper plans. ;) I heard some of your opioid addicts get prescribed 3 Oxyneo 80mg's a day for opioid maintenance... 8

I've lived in Canada my whole life and I've certainly never heard of that. Of course it varies from doctor to doctor and region to region, but in general it is usually more difficult to get prescribed drugs in Canada than in the US.

Good luck with your taper WorldWarMe. Glad you had a compassionate doctor.

I've been there with extreme benzodiazepine tolerance, the numbers aren't so important but I was taking three benzodiazepines concurrently, XXXmg alprazolam, temazepam, and XXmg triazolam.

I began taking my prescribed benzodiazepines therapeutically at a young age and over the course of 10 years I was going through a bunch of other shit, and I began to self-medicate for PTSD with ever-escalating doses. I got my act together over a year ago and have been very careful not to become dependent again, there are obviously many reasons why it's not good to be heavily dependent. The worst part is the memory loss, there are huge stretches of time in my life where I have no idea what happened. Also, the PAWS is horrible, rebound anxiety and insomnia up the ass.

Just some words of caution: TEMAZEPAM IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL BENZO - IT HAS A MUCH LOWER THERAPEUTIC INDEX COMPARED TO ALL OTHER BENZOS. Taking doses in the thousands of mgs can and will kill you due to respiratory depression. If you don't believe me, read up on it. Temazepam has taken many, many lives and many weren't even mixed with other CNS depressants. Adding alcohol with over 2000-3000mg of temazepam WILL KILL YOU!

Okay I need your guys help ASAP. I'm on.my way to a wedding but need a benzo. I don't want to be slurring my words. At all.

Which should I take, alprazolam or temazepam?

Absolute statements are rarely true when it comes to drugs.
Spreading fear is not nice, but counterproductive.
NO!

Ive been in this situation many times, take an appropriate dose (depending on your tolerance) of a long acting benzo, Diazepam, Flunitrazepam, Clonazepam, Flurazepam the day/night before the event then the Anxiety relief will still be there but outside noticeable effects wont be there for others to see.

i think that temazepam has a really high index for overdose too, along with all the other benzos.

it's really dependent on a whole load of different factors regarding whether or not a person will rise from a benzo induced coma or die from acute intoxication of the drug.

each person is different, under which you have to respect your own body and understand what you are putting into yourself. too little is better than too much.

as said previously on here, people ARE taking 3000mg of temazepam, and they aren't dead. i don't know if its an over-exaduration, but if it is not, then they clearly have a much more dependent state/different body chemistry to those who would die from such a dose.

clearly 3000mg from a benzo naive person is a crazy amount. the chances of OD are extremely high, but then again, who is going to be able to 1. obtain that amount of benzo (if they haven't used them before) and 2. feel the need to swallow 100 of the HIGHEST strength temazepams you can get? they are (i say this from a UK perspective) VERY tightly controlled here - much more so than other benzos. in fact they are the only benzo which are regulated and monitored by the government here, along with rohypnol, which is prescribed for a maximum of 10 days use at 1mg - of which obtaining that prescription is near to impossible. temazepam is much the same now.

i have personally seen an acute overdose and fatality from zolpidem in a benzo naive user who was attempting suicide - however the amount of tablets that were swallowed to get to this point was beyond ridiculous, so yes, you can OD on benzos alone - but that goes for anything taken to pure extremes. water in excess will cause an overdose too.

saying temazepam WILL KILL YOU isn't productive nor constructive - yes there have been more reported fatalities, but you fail to take into consideration the huge over-prescription of temazepam during the 80's and 90's too.

What kokaino said was not that temazepam is guaranteed to kill everyone, but that "Adding alcohol with over 2000-3000mg of temazepam will kill you" which may still have been a bit of an exageration if you take that to mean will kill 100% of people, even those with insane tolerances, but if you can look past the hyperbole there is actually some truth in the other points kokaino made about temazepam.

Temazepam is more dangerous than other benzos. Temazepam has the highest rate of intoxication, both on its own and with alcohol, compared to other benzos. Studies done (at least as recently as the late 90s) showed temazepam to cause more overdoses than other benzos and for the overdoses to be more likely to be serious (comas, fatalities, etc). It was also shown to have the highest number of deaths per million prescriptions (which I think means that the fact that it was more widely prescribed in the 80s-90s should not be a factor since they are going by deaths per million prescriptions and not just comparing the numbers of deaths total). Temazepam is less euphoric than other benzos, so people may take more to try to achieve euphoria. As with many drugs, tolerance to each effect of temazepam can progress at different levels, so a person could be tolerant to, say euphoria or anxiolysis but not coma or respiratory depression, which can be dangerous for obvious reasons. And adding alcohol (as with other CNS depressants) can vastly increase your chances of death. Unlike most benzos, temazepam is not affected by individual variations in the P450 enzyme system, so it can be hard to make an equivalent conversion estimate from other benzos the person has taken, as the equivalent dose of another benzo can vary greatly from person to person.

I agree that scare tactics and exaggerations are counter-productive, we are a harm reduction site after all, but I do think it is fair to say that temazepam is an especially dangerous benzo and to use appropriate caution, especially with high doses or when combining it with alcohol/other drugs.
