benadryl for alcohol nausea?

Any amount of alcohol makes me nauseous as all hell, even one beer. Would taking 25mg of benadryl help the nausea go away similar to how benadryl helps opiate nausea?

I don't recommend mixing these two drugs. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) is a pretty strong sedative, mixing it with alcohol will probably just knock you out, as others have said.

Please don't attempt to "trip" by mixing them either...

If alcohol makes you nauseous then don't drink. It's that simply really, most anti-emitics are sedatives of some sort so it's just not going to work that well without being overly sedated. I find it hard to believe that one beer will make you feel sick, unless you are very small or a child.

alcohol intolerance? That's quite a severe reaction to one beer. I'd be investigating the cause of the nausea rather than hoping it'll just go away by taking diphenhydramine. And i dont think it would work anyway.

I wouldn't really recommend it. Gravol (pretty much chemically the same as benadryl I think?) and alcohol was always too sedating for me and didn't do much other than make some hazy nights a lot hazier.

Ginger is an alright non-sedating alternative, but as others have said it may not be a great idea to be drinking alcohol if it always makes you nauseated, as this doesn't seem to be the typical experience with just one beer.

I have a weak stomach, lots of things make me nauseous. Also to the people saying "don't try to trip off of benadryl while drunk", I was referring to taking 25mg, that's 1/15 the minimum amount it'd take to "trip". Also, I JUST get nauseous, I've never thrown up from alcohol no matter how much I drink.

Do you get the neusea every time you drink or just with beer? Maybe it is a food allergy, like Coeliac Disease?

It's a possibility. Do they make gluten free alcohol?

It should do, however as others have mentioned, it also has sedative effects which aren't good to have when already drunk. I would recommend getting a 2nd or 3rd generation antihistamine, which don't have the anticholinergic effects, loratadine and cetrizine are I think the most popular OTC ones, but just check your pharmacy for travel sickness pills etc.

The non-sedating/anticholinergic antihistamines are anti-emetics too?! I thought the anticholinergic effects were what caused the anti-emetic effects. But if not this is good news, if I get nauseous I won't have to be tired also!

But I take enough benadryl so that 25mg doesn't really give me a sedating effect, I need at least 50-75 for that to be noticible.

Yeah a small amount of DPH should be fine, if <25mg helps with nausea then use it. But yeah, i'm not sure on the pharmacology of it exactly, but the newer antihistamines still work and don't have a lot of side effects.
