The most disturbing film you have seen?

Yeah the asians make some good Horror. Check out 'Shutter' from 2004? and it's Thai?
A tale of two bloody sisters or a blood tale of two sister
I don't even know, I'm not into Asian cinema as much as I used to be. There's that park jan-wook or whatever
I don't know. Pulse is good though.

The one i watched early this morning, where the oil rigger bashed the priest head in with a bowling pin..i know it was a movie because i don't know any oil riggers or priest. Movie name no clue..

There will be blood, yes. it was fresh in my mind the ending the other day, scattered i was.. so i didn't really know what the hell the movie was about. i just remember some deaf kid, a priest, bowling pins and blood.

A wonderful, balanced (aka, non-partisan), but absolutely infuriating documentary about the Iraq War and the Government's response to the occupation and rehabilitation of the country, using interviews from the very same government officials charged with the task. I was in Middle School when most of this happened, so I've never been clear on particulars of the war and subsequent occupation, but this movie shed a lot of light on the Bush administration's mishandling of the event from start to finish (well, up until 2006). I posted about this film in this thread because there is quite a bit of footage of people being shot, blown-up, burned, and otherwise mutilated - but even more than that, it's disturbing on a more fundamental level, like "How could something like this possibly happen? Why were so many people killed, and so much money wasted, on a pointless and endless series of mistakes?"

This film is essential viewing, imo.

in a funny twist of fate i happened to view a documentary about a priest whose child molestation and raping were covered up by the church for many years called Deliver Us From Evil, then then viewed an abortion documentary called Lake of Fire. in the molestation one, they feature a bishop by the name of mahoney who covered up this guys "indiscretions". i saw him in the abortion one afterwards, speaking out against it. i guess they only matter in the womb, huh?

I have watched Funny games,Nine dead,The killing room,The collector and A clockwork orange I guess.Funny games is my favorite pair of psycopaths not just killing but playing toying with their victims. No country For old men Is nothing ok movie but the guy in the movie is not psycopath he just murders anyway I was curious If you have seen these movies tell me what you think.

Also if you haven't seen these movies and you like psycopaths murder or whatever you will like these movies. If you know of any movies like these I have listed post them here.

You mean Funny Games from the 90's? Cuz yeah, i just saw it and it was a waste of 2 hours. What a fucking piece of shit! I wanna see something truly disturbing, like wtf disturbing! Clockwork is far more disturbing than Funny Games and much better in every single aspect, well it is a classic. Funny Games was just, shitty. SOrry for the rant dude,.

^I have only seen the original funny games, not the 90s remake, but I have heard they are about as similar as film / remake run. So, that said, I couldnt disagree with you more. I think the original funny games is actually a very appropriate film for this thread, because while being violent and sadistic, the whole movie seems designed to make the viewer question why they enjoy seeing suffering and sadism on film. I found it to be a very thought provoking movie.

I'm confused. I saw 1998 funny games, German made. Is this it?

If its this then I'm sorry but 0 though provoking material is in here. Is the movie fucked up? YES? It's simply just not well made. The premise was great but it's too slow for what it was. I mean the director left a 15 minute silence in one point? Seriously? Overkill. Clockwork is more sadistic and script wise way better. The script for Funny Games (German version) was horrible.

Yes the German one is the one im talking about. Although the the 6 minute (15 is a bit of an exaggeration) scene of the father sobbing after his son is killed is hard to take, I dont consider it bad directing. It leaves the viewer with just enough awkward time that they might start self reflecting a little bit and think about why it is so entertaining to watch this family being tortured.

But I wouldnt argue with you at all that a clock work orange is a great movie, too

i'm sorry but you seem to completely miss the point of funny games. i haven't seen the remake, but from what i read about it it's nearly identical to the austrian (not fuckin' german) version. the point of the movie wasn't to entertain, it was consciously written and directed to show violence as anti-entertainment, as the revolting thing that it is (i've been on the receiving end of violence all through my childhood) and in this regard it succeeds better than any other film i've ever seen. is it entertaining? no. would i watch it again? probably. but to say the movie was badly written is like saying salo shoulda had more explosions and gunfights or requiem for a dream woulda been better with a happy ending.

i recently saw the heart is deceitful above all things and that movie was pretty hard to take for me.

Even unsettling movies where the sole purpose is to shock and awe the audience should attempt to have some substance and wit to it. That's like saying to Ethan and Joel Cohen (No Country For Old Men; fucking classic and i cant believe someone in here said it sucked), "Ok your movie is about killing, murdering and psycho's so who fucking cares about the script just write any stupid shit but just make sure you shock the audience ok?". It just doesn't work that way. And don't get me started with the fucking actors in Funny Games talking to us, the audience, like that is supposed to be something ground-breaking. Like as if the storyline was so gripping i really gave a fuck what the characters, which we have no clue who the fuck he is cuz they didnt develop em, wants us to think. So fucking retarded and asinine. Maybe thats why nooooooooooo serious movie does that.

Oh and it's austrian? Wow, thanks alot man. I was so off being that Austria and Germany have no relations at all. It's not like German is the common language for Austria. Oh wait.... ANYWAYS.... Maybe if i was high off my mind i could have taken in the fear factor of this movie more but i was sober when i saw this one. I bet if i smoked some kush i would've reacted totally different to it. But it's like i said it's a great premise and all that but just bland and stale in it's approach. This is just my opinion though. Not to take away from ya'll guys choices or what not. I can't take away that in its own sense it is "disturbing" just not as much as the box cover makes it out to be. For fucks sake the cover says I DARE YOU TO WATCH IT lololol Like if its some Faces of Death shit.

Lemme stop ranting and bitching. lol Cool ass thread btw... lemme see if i can recommend something. Human Centipede (the first one) is not really disturbing but definitely disgusting and morbid lol albeit a bit disturbing i guess. I haven't seen the 2nd one and they say its worse than the 1st one (dont know how thats possible LOL)

Man, I just don't understand how people find a display of insipid gore nor the taboo and uncommon ideas that are played out by actors in a movie..
I've been affected by movies, the first time I saw Fight Club I went to go hurt myself, and I just wanted to fight someone. Every time I watch porn I like, my dick gets hard. When I watch drug movies, sometimes I want drugs. When I watch a comedy stoned, I laugh. When I saw Shutter (2004) I jolted from shock. I've never understood gore. The first time I saw I Spit on your Grave (original) I felt emotionally attached and affectionate? towards the girl whilst holding contempt and loathing for the men, with a very twisted outlook and hope/expectation for the movie to turn out, which it played to. Now when I saw the 'Irreversible' rape scene, I didn't feel that much. I understand it is paced at a much more realistic speed, and the director was creating a very 'real' display. I think I might have even saw Irreversible before ISOYG, although I'm not quite sure. I just went to see Irreversible's imdb page and in the stupid little discussion someone asked if 9 minutes was too long. They simply felt uncomfortable with the length, as it's supposed to portray a real rape. They didn't want to see a rape, 9 minutes of rape. Rape rape rape. They wanted to know what was happening, as is shown in other movies, but at an unrealistic pace with the scene over before you know it, leaving the idea in your mind only exposing the act briefly. Noe knows. I just didn't really find it as affecting, although I think it's much more about me and the state of mind I'm in when I watch a film.

/Wall of text, I might edit it later

I think Funny games is all about getting the viewer to question why gratuitous suffering and sadism in movies like Saw and Human Centipede is considered an acceptable form of entertainment. True, there is nothing ground breaking about the simple fact that there are asides to the audience, but the director uses them to great effect. Most of them have a snide sort of tone of "don't worry, we wont really let this family get away, don't worry you will get to see them suffer, we know you are really on our side." Its an aggressive tactic that shocks the (thinking) viewer out of their entertainment hungry stupor mindset and makes them question why they want to see such evil things. Is it really ok to want that, just because its a film which is not real life, and you are so removed and anonymous from your position as viewer, the film asks. And I mostly agree with xxxyyy, the violence is shown in an anti-entertaining way, completely opposite of the flashy editing of a Quintin Tarintino type movie, which intends to make the viewer uncomfortable, and actually portrays sadism and violence as the evil thing that it is.
The main characters in Funny games lack a sense of being fully human somewhat, but its not because of bad writing I believe it was intentional. In many of Michael Haneke's movies he focuses on characters who are dissociated from their lives and having any real emotional responses to what happens around them due to the alienating effect of media and the way suffering has become like a commodity for news and media producers.

You bring up a great point to where it's anti-entertaining! LOLOL SO anti-entertaining, in fact, it's so anti-entertaining it sucked. I'm just fucking around a bit but really if a movie wants to separate itself from the crowd by being hyper real in it's emotions then make a fucking documentary or make porn. What was most disturbing to me about this movie was how undisturbing it was.

i saw Dog Tooth on netflix, recommended here, and i might say that it was pretty fucked up. Much better writing and much more thought put into it to bring A point across. Alot less sadistic and morbid than Funny Games but much more well thought out even though they say mental torture if far worse than any physical torture. I liked Dog Tooth, it was something different and a bit disturbing yes. LOLOL

It's actually much more morbid than Funny Games, and I'd even say it's more sadistic as the parents keep it up for the children's entire lives, although it's debatable.
Maybe you should go watch some more Haneke movies to see whether you're able to appreciate them. I've seen the original Funny Games, the remake, some of the Piano Teacher, some of The White Ribbon. I find his movies to be too slow paced (something I find pretentious) for my liking.

Well, i meant more sadistic in the sense where in funny games its more lash-out, deliberate and premeditated to fuck someones life up. Whereas in Dogtooth im assuming the parents arent ill-intended in what they are doing but nonetheless trying to "protect" they're kids, i might be off..... I totally fucking agree with you with haneke and his pretentious, slow paced style. I was completely putoff by it. Its like hes underestimating the audience by assuming his work is by far so glorious with such little effort.... I mean, this fucking movie couldnt have cost that much to make, yet Haneke grasps at it like if its this masterpiece. Im rambling, but i agree its slow paced and pretentious all the while. I will watch those movie you recommended, unless they too are slow paced and leading to nowhere lol.

Its funny cuz now that you mention pretentious and slow paced i guess that was that feeling i was getting all the while watching funny games. It was like i was thinking, "ok, what is next... ok, that wasnt interesting... ok, was i supposed to be disturbed by this? Dont UNDERESTIMATE ME llolOLOLOL

All of the movies I mentioned are by Haneke and are quite slow paced. The Piano Teacher was the fastest moving one imo. He seems to be highly acclaimed, but I don't like him. None of them are 'disturbing' btw
