Kate's idea, my fucking thread motherfuckers.

I'd like to post a pic of my bike - I love my bike and its baskets but feel this thread's not appropriate, should I make a new one? The decision making process involved here is overwhelming me. I may have to sleep on it.

Yes a cycling thread would be great! I'd post in that!

I kinda have three and a half bikes and I used to have four and a half:

- road bike
- mountain bike
- folding bike
- pals mountain bike in my shed
- pals half bike for a kid to sit on that attaches to a proper bike

The last two items are to be ejected. I gave my mountain bike away to my nephew. WHAT WAS I THINKING??!?!?!

I have a fucking TRAILER for going to the shops.

I'll take actual pics tomorrow and post. Plus I have an archive!

Any other drug fucked cyclists out there then? I once rode on the Edinburgh Bypass with a pal after drinking a bottle of whisky which was stupid, we fell in a ditch, but that's as fucked as I've been. So far I have managed to avoid tripping, "rolling", nodding, whizzing and all other drug-related behaviours on bikes, which is more than can be said for most professional cyclists and racers. So there is a whole new sphere of drug-cycling activities opening before me which I've never considered before! Bring it on! (Obviously with due attention to safety).

Err....I need a 3 wheeler, I'm considering getting a side car for the Lambretta does that get me in on the EADD cycling club ....dishonourable member ? (I'm going to regret that phrase)

Controversially patriotic picture below:-

Came to work on my 600cc enduro today in full enduro trim.... Fuck road tyres n shizz!

Nice! I should use my bike more, I love it whenever I actually get onto it.

I've got a mate who has a trailer, Knock. He's also got one of those horizontal bikes, a folding brompton and this extraordinary tall bicycle topped with a perspex bubble. No idea what it's called but it's fairly old and extremely strange.

Bought myself a few years ago a 1997 Kona Cindercone, on hope XC hubs and mavic rims, rides like a dream. Mate at Uni has set up a society called "Day trippers" where as the name suggest we take day trips out on our bikes :sus:

Nice^^

I've got A Marin 1994 Pine Mountain the one with triple butted Tange frame. Mavic 231s on Deore dx hubs & the rest is XT.
Had it since new . Weighs about 24 pounds . Its probably the only material possession i have that i am attached to .

i've been a bike rida since i was 11 or so, mountain bike, then bmx, then road, then fixie skidda, now s/s.

three sets of trails were built, this is me at one:

i also made a couple videos for my blog http://youtu.be/HQDIaAGV8do pretty crappy, been meaning to remake since i got my camera fixed and going to get a clamp or something

in all that i've learned most of the bike maintenance and would like to work as a mechanic at somepoint but for a lot of shops you've got to get all these fucking accredations and courses that cost a bomb for shit i already know! just fix friend and familys bike right now, thinking to set up a "come to your house fix your bike" type thing as most of the issues don't need the big expensive tools and i could do it a lot cheaper than a bike shop.

rode to amsterdam with some mates couple years ago, want to do something like that again.

watching the olympic cycling has inspired me to put my drops back on instead of the wide risers i've currently got.

My road bike is fairly boring and new, a 2009 (I think) Specialized "Secteur Elite" 21-speed with aluminium frame, 105 compononents, Mavic 725 rims.

It's a good enough bike but it's heavier and less responsive than the bike I had before, which I built myself - high-end shimano/mavic components on an ancient Reynolds 531 tubed Raleigh Randonneur frame. Unfortunately that frame split and I was living in a field so I just went to Harry Hill's in Manchester.

I actually use the front wheel off the old bike as it makes it noticeably lighter.

I've been wiped out today, tired and dizzy, so I've done fuck all. If I can get the energy up I'll get out for a spin before the dark descends.

I'm a peaceful sort but god help anyone who tried to steal my precious mountain bike.(although there are no mountains round here, it's a comfortable ride) I can only wonder why I ever thought I needed a car, nasty, gas-guzzling, pollution-emitting monsters that they are. Now you can take your bike on the train, very few places are out of reach. You save money and can claim health and ecological righteousness as well. Pedal power rules!

Your city is perfect for bike riding Charlie, great in the summer time especially.
A bet a lot more folk will be getting back on their bikes after Bradleys superb gold medal performance today.
Love it when you see parents out with their kids teaching them to ride a bike and the joy on the kids faces as they get moving.

nice pics i against i.

How do you feel about that? I moved quickly onto drops when I was a teenager. My first bike was a kids bike called a typhoon which doesn't count then a Raleigh Bomber which was like a (basic) mountain bike before mountain bikes got big, here's an example:

contemporary of the Grifter, and the Chopper, it was a fucking great bike for a teenager with 3(IIRC) speed sturmey archer hub and weird frame geometry. It was pretty fucking fast, mainly cos it had bigger wheels than the Grifter I used to beat the pants off.

But I quickly moved on to road bikes after making pals with a "serious cyclist" who did TTs and was in a club and shit. Since I spent many days cycling with him at high speed on the roads (well, trying to keep up) I am never happier than on a proper responsive road bike with drops and skinny tyres.

Ock knockando this thread's made my (has been awful so far) day <3 Thank you.

My girl :)

Off course the shoes match! I took that pic very early one morning after being up all night on mxe, thought cycling to my favourite bit of the beach and going for a swim at 5am would be a good idea 8) Was cold but very "freeing" - thankfully but I had plenty of towels and spare clothes with me :D Cycling was somewhat odd on semi-trip-mxe mode.

Harm Reduction Note: swimming in the sea on drugs is a bad idea and not recommended.

I <3 my bike.

apprehensive. my first experience with hoods was on an old road bike, so totally crap. my next was with shimano levers that i hated, once riding over london bridge i hit a pot hole and my hand flew over the top. ideally i'd like some cane creek style with long flats, but i'm running v brakes so its either tektro rl520 which still have a shimano esque shape but a bit longer and only £18 so i'll try those first, otherwise i'd have to get some more expensive levers travel agents or switch to canti's which i hate.

i use compact drops which i really like. i'm currently running a 120m stem with wide risers, and only have a 120mm stem for the drops, do you reckon a shorter stem may be better? i've always felt too stretched out but never used these drops on this frame before. not sure if i've given myself time to adjust to the more aggressive position. i also like to do a lot of bunnyhops up curbs etc so that will be made harder.

going to go for a higher gear as well, currently only 70GI but i figure might as well up it a bit and zip around a bit better.

Aye, I wouldn't be doing that on drops! But your photo clearly shows you're a more adept trickster than I am. My wheels stay on the ground!

I like to be stretched out so I can't really comment on the shorter stems, every geometry mod I've ever made to my bikes has been to stretch me out further and get my head down lower.

This is what i ride

It's still good as new . Over the years i've replaced the whole drive train due to wear . Also i have Easton 150gram bars on it other than that it's standard
