I took a bag of kava bought from <no sources>. I can feel the body load, but I am quite dysphoric, have tachycardia and feel like I'll be having insomnia later on with a pounding heart. I even feel a bit anxious. Has anybody ever experienced this off of Kava?

Kava is a schedule 4 substance in Australia. I suggest you edit your post as you are incriminating the business. I am sure the owner wouldn't want it posted publicly that his business is selling illegal substances.

In answer to your question Kava is well known for causing panic attacks and anxiety in some people.

Kava isnt illegal man, you just need an import license for large quantities but otherwise its legal to posses and sell in Australia. My mate when visiting Fiji brings back a whole bunch of it, if I remember correctly the threshold limit is 2kg.
As the the above question kava kava usually has the opposite effects on me, actually reduces anxiety and also helps me relax. It doesnt really do much to me tbh even at 2-3 oz of high quality stuff:S

Kava is a schedule 4 substance in Australia. It was placed in Schedule 4 on the 1st August 2008. Before then there was no restrictions. The crack down came after Kava was apparently causing liver problems.

You are allowed to bring back 2kg per person from Fiji for personal use. There are only 2 Kava containing products that have been approved for sale by the TGA in Australia. These include Thompson's Kava tablets and a product called Easy Sleep.

I wonder if this is what I've been taking for sleep every night. I've been using a "herbal" sleeping product from the same store which lists the following ingredients:

Sculcap
Celandine
Hops
Blue Lotus

None of these sound like ultra-potent hypnotics, yet without fail even half of one of these capsules will have me out cold in under an hour. Far more efficient than the usual suspects like nitrazepam, seroquel etc. Hell, if any of those herbal ingredients worked half this well, nobody would have bothered inventing other sleeping pills. I'm rather certain there's an active ingredient they aren't listing, but of course the people in the store won't admit it (or don't know) what it is. Maybe I should try obtain some kava and do a comparison.

They are called Zonk and are amazing. They are sold by the first business mentioned but made by our number one Aussie Ethno business. There are no ingredients present that aren't listed. The guy who makes Zonk is a legend and is very honest and open about what his products contain. He is also an absolute legal genius.

That's the one and you're right, they're amazing. One capsule has me out in an hour and I can wake up the next morning with no groggy hangover. I've tried so many sleeping pills and used nitrazepam in particular extensively, so it just seems weird to me that a bunch of random herbs would do such a better job. Why the fuck are we still handing out addictive and toxic drugs to help people sleep? This shit needs to go mainstream or something.

There is a place in my city called <no sources> who obviously serve Kava and they're still around and have been for some time. I don't think they'd be open if it was incriminating to sell/serve it. You're supposed to be over 18 but the owners seem pretty cool, in fact they didn't mind smoke when I was there although I think they're averse to drunkards. Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there as I've been there after 2008.

Apparently the place you mentioned still has the same name but dropped the Kava prefix. They allegedly no longer sell Kava either. The story of this particular place in Adelaide gets told in every Kava thread on Aussie forums when the issue of legality is raised.

The import, advertising and sale of kava in Australia are strictly controlled. Kava is listed as a controlled substance under the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations Act.

As of 26 June 2007 commercial importations of kava are no longer allowed, except for medical or scientific purposes.

Passengers coming into Australia, who are over the age of 18 years, are allowed to bring 2 kg of kava without a license or permit, provided it is in their accompanied baggage.

Kava seemed like a pretty mellow kind of drug when i had it several times in fiji. I noticed it made some of the locals get red eyes, i enjoyed it there, altho its not the nicest taste or anything, it was fun drinking the dirty, muddy liquid as part of their cultural ceremonies. I cant recall getting anxious or pounding heart or insomnia for me tho, more just laid back and mellow, kinda like a bit stoned, but not the same.

All I remember from drinking kava tea was my mouth going numb and feeling slightly happier..

I have a mate who swears by these, he used to take 30-40mg temaz to get him to sleep, untill he found out about addiction potential.

yup I had much the same thing after having kava almost daily for a week. stopped the kava and my racing heartbeat went away.

at the right dose you will feel very relaxed. its defiantly not as good as benzos but does work well for anxiety.

Unless of course you are one of the many people to report that Kava actually increases their anxiety levels and propensity to have panic attacks.

When The Footy Show doped up Andrew Johns and Fatty a few years back in a traditional Kava ceremony you could see Andrew Johns immediately go into a state of panic on camera as he admitted that "this shit really works".

Hehe, missed that, classic.
