Haha, this is funny. Most of them seem to be foreign, so if someone wants to give us the jist, that would be good. Some are English, but I'm still looking through them. I unsubscribed one person from their mailing list, for a laugh - which was probably a mistake, as they'll now have my IP. I don't underestimate what these people will do to someone speaking out against their cult - oops, I mean 'religion'. If you don't know anything about Scientology, have a Google. Brainwashing cult, from another planet, sounds about right.

Brilliant. Cheers Treacle. :)

I was actually reading up on some CoS protocols earlier on today, so I'm definitely going to give this one a look. You'd never guess that Hubbard cut his teeth in the secret society founded by one Edward Alexander (aka 'Aleister') Crowley would you?

Perverted gnostic theology married to cutting-edge indoctrination techniques and flagrant appeals to vanity. Genius of the very worst kind.

I met a middle aged Scottish bloke in a small, beach town, in Peru a couple years ago. He owned the guest house I was staying in and claimed to be on the run from the Scientology cult. Reckons his family were involved and his aunty was near the top of the chain so he was automatically forced into it and brainwashed for years. He apparently escaped and they chased him round the world but he'd managed to evade them and was now living in this little unknown town. Not sure I believe the story as he told me countless far fetched ones over the few days I stayed there and was chain smoking joints 24/7, think he was actually just a bit mental.

Sounds like something they would do though, watched a docu on them a while back and they try and stop people from leaving or talking to the press about it.

If he was that bothered about hiding from them, he probably wouldn't have told that story willy nilly to every other guest who passed through - who would later give the game away on the internet, would he? lol.

I've read about a bit on scientology, and they are if anything an interesting bunch. Did you know their old leader used to make them choke each other if one of them annoyed him? He also did whacko shit like make them play violent musical chairs for 12 hours straight if they frustrated him LOL. They still own Hubbards house, and use it for functions and shit. They are a very litigious bunch, always on the look out to protect themselves and their image. One thing that they do do exceedingly well though, to their credit, is challenge the psychiatric community, which I feel needs to be done in a lot of cases. They go a bit far in doing it with their lies and bullshit propaganda, but then when the world is becoming so weird that every other person is defined by the 10% of their character that is different to everyone else rather than the 90% that is identical, you can see why.

Yeah it blatantly wasn't true, a funny story though and it being scientology actually quite possible. :D

Spade: That sounds pretty accurate, from the stuff I've heard. Katie Holmes has been followed, by unmarked vehicles, and other shit - since her split from Tom Cruise, which I reckon was caused by his mental fascination with the cult. This is a pretty good summary of the whole thing: http://www.wtsp.com/news/article/264206/10/Scientology-faces-new-troubles-after-Cruise-divorce

The Wiki list of famous Scientologists is pretty interesting reading, also. It actually makes sense, when you see that 'possessed' look that religious nutters get.

It's just basically like the masons with a bit more spicy bullshit ideology and madness behind it.

Much like Hubbard learned from Ordo Templi Orientis, except slicker.

I know a ton of stuff on these fuckers - they are evil - did lots of research on them really just out of interest because of hubbards connections with people like anton Lavey, Jack parsons (NASA scientist very high up) and all occultists, the auditing process where they basically make you admit to every 'sin' you've commited this is why IMO they get rich and famous people in and then basically hold them to ransom.
The whole thing is based on your body being pocessed by alien spirits from xenu...blah blah look it up.But the guy was just a con man who w2rote sci-fi and turned a story into a 'religion'.
I read recently a story where a reporter was staked out near one of their centres, two guys came out and put post cards on every parked car and lastly on his.He got out to look and there was a picture of him with contact details saying he was a pedo- he ran to take off all the post cards but they were all blank apart from his...... believe me there is so much you just wouldnt believe the crap they get up to.

If he wasn't a paedophile he had to be a man of the cloth.
What's the difference?

blondin: Agreed. My bird has been researching it furiously, just because of how fucked up it is. It's basically a huge 'religious'
pyramid scheme. They definitely threaten to dish the dirt, if someone leaves. The hacking group Anonymous have a website called whyweprotest, and it's a big anti-scientology forum. It's the worst scam and highly illegal organisation going, I reckon.

They try to provoke reactions like that, while staying calm and trying to sound rational. Freaks, all of them.

its NOT religious, in no way. its a CULT.

Hence the quotation marks. I've called it a cult a couple of times, in this very thread.

Not religious? I beg to differ.

The entire corpus of Scientologist teachings is pretty much based on the corruption of disparate strands of gnostic theology.

As for drawing a distinction between a 'religion' and a 'cult', that's more or less arbitrary. All the major world religions are 'cults'; only these days it's regarded as a pejorative term for extremist and / or fringe sects.

Don't you think that cults are generally assumed to have people in charge who don't really believe in the doctrine, whereas Dr Rowan Williams probably does love his neighbour and that?

One those documentaries, you should see the reaction of a Scientologist - if someone calls it a cult. They go properly on the defensive, and refuse to speak about it. I wonder if there's any on BL.... Drugs and psychology are considered evil, so I doubt it. If this is a religion, it's a religion like no other. It's just plain fucked up.

I'll bet you a zillion pounds there is at least one on 'other' (shudder, American) parts of BL. BL is full of tossers who have 'given up' drugs. Look at Spade.
