Just discovered an envelope sitting at the bottom of my stairs containing MXE. Think it's been there for a few days but it looked like junk mail so I ignored it!

Nice one :D Not had any MXE for a month or two.
 
just cleaned out my drug box while I'm waiting for my mate with all the cutting and welding stuff to ring up.

disappointing to say the least.
 
Can't you go under the car, under the engine and push it through that way or something? You should be able to get to the catch that way? I probably shouldn't be suggesting ways you can fix your car, given that you want to run me over :sus:

Tried everything to free the catch, stretch the cable etc, but is completely jammed.

Tried to wedge a chisel in there last night and just chisel off the catch on one side, but ended up breaking a headlight glass.

Mate is a mechanic, he's flummoxxed too.

Solution? We're cutting out a section of the bonnet above the offending catch, and rewelding the section back on =D

erm, mine is too. bizarre. well my sisters, which i mainly drive

it started sticking, had it in to get it open, guy said he'd fixed it ... but I can't open it again. he managed to get it open tho, and fill up the oil n stuff

everyone's tried ... putting weight on the bonnet and bouncing it up n down while pulling the bonnet release lever at the same time, but no dice

My dad says the cord has probably stretched, so it'll need replacing.

Any tips are welcome folks

Been driving around (incl a lot of motorway driving) with not being able to check the oil or fill up screenwash. luckily it's been raining tons so it's not empty yet

When you slide under a car you can see through or around the engine all the way to the bonnet. You only need to get to the wire that's been stretched too far, follow that along, and flip the catch. It was just a suggestion any way, it's not exactly gonna be easy, but if it's got to the point where holes are being cut out it's worth a go. Won't cutting a square out of the bonnet ruin how the car crumples when you crash?
 
I'm currently sat in a pink Wendy House drinking pretend cups of tea with my 4year old niece.

Thanks for the advice, this is Devon, cutting gear and welding stuff ftw.

we have tried everything, I've had a load of posties (windowlickers to a man/woman) look at it, couple of mates who work in Body shops, or mechanics....other passers by who just like to stop and nose about and "help"......

I'm sure a Renault garage would do it, but fuck that, it's a 15 year old car and I doubt it's gonna get through next MOT in 3 months anyway....

No you didn't, you edited that in afterwards.

But hey, hopefully you're as good at long distance motor mechanics as you are at everything else, and soon MM will be back cheerfully announcing success and embracing you like a long lost brother.

Some people it seems grip the cable from the inside bonnet release point with pliers and open it this way.

tried it :( , anyway, as I said, we were bashing away at the catch and retainer with massive chisels yesterday, just trying to chisel the catch off, even if we did manage to get to the cable it ain't gonna do shit now.

I appreciate all the advice.
 
nahhh, me mates a fast welder, he's good, and our last car, also a fucking Renault had a multi panel look (was one of them Clios where the faulty catch just released itself at high speed, blew the bonnet up, shattering the windscreen, leaving me showered in windscreen and unable to see in the outside lane of a dual carriageway, with me 18 month old son in the back) not good, so I'm sick of the multipanel look.

The patchwork look is a new one though :D

Haha, which site is saying this? I was surprised by how far some people on here take things when I came on, now it just seems normal.

[edit] Haha found the site. The one full of the type of wankers who only use drugs that are 'natural' and bullshit like that... A girl while I was interrailing said to me "I only eat shrooms and smoke pot because they are natural", so I told her to get off the train because that was unnatural to humans. Her boyfriend laughed in her face and it caused a bit of a rift between them, and we didn't speak much for the rest of the over night journey lol.
