NJ Syringe Access

I live in NJ and have been doing some research on Syringe availability. Everything I have read says that Gov. Chrisite signed a bill into law allowing the sale of up to 10 syringes without a prescription. This law was supposed to be in effect as of last week July 15th, 2012, but every pharmacy I have called says that you need a prescription. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with purchasing syringes OTC(Over the Counter) here in NJ, especially interested in Northern NJ. I know all about going to NY and the exchanges we have, but sometimes it is easier to just walk into a pharmacy and get what you need. It's ridiculous that you can't buy syringes in a pharmacy OTC in the name of harm reduction. The Paterson exchange has been closed all week, and I can't drive to NY, it's too far without a car. I am hoping someone has had some luck buying them OTC around here, it seems that the pharmacists are not up on the law or are just choosing to ignore it.

It's a disgrace. here you can go to a pharmacy, get alcopads, saline, all kinds of syringes etc. They'll probably throw a dirty look your way but they don't have a choice but to sell you what you need.

I really don't understand what they're trying to accomplish by making needles unavailable OTC. What if you can't order drug-related stuff online because you live with your parents..?

I'm down here in south jersey and have had problems as well. Luckily I belong to a Needle Exchange so it's not so bad for me. I recommend you do the same.

The pharmacists are real assholes down here since it's mostly rich neighborhoods. I argued at 3 different places and no one would hand them over. I got 1 other guy looking into it. They all tell me it's still illegal, though it's not.

They're trying to create an illusion for people who don't use drugs, so they can think that there aren't people IVing drugs out there in the real world.

It doesn't actually create a world where people aren't IVing drugs, it merely just increases harm when people share/re-use needles.

Wanted to update this thread, I called my local pharmacy I go to (the guy that was looking into it for me) and he said that the board of health in NJ has it on hold, and although the govna' approved it, they have it on hold until they say it's OK to give out to the pharmacists.
