SO, I live in a state where it is supposedly legal to buy rigs in the pharmacies without a prescription (Mississippi)...have had luck at 2 places (both <snip>) but the last time i tried, they said they had changed their policy and now require you to fill for insulin there or at least show them a bottle with your name on it...
and no exchanges anywhere near me...aside from ordering online, how do yall get your rigs in this situation? anyone have any tried and true stories to tell the pharmacists (Ive heard vitamin injections for your cat works...really)
how do you do it??
thanks so much
ps. sorry if this is in the wrong place..mods feel free to move it

apart from those options you're really only left with scoring rigs from your dealers/friends.

I live in alabama so I know how it is. One good trick I have learned is to buy the 100 box on syringes. It makes you seem more legit then just buying 10 at a time. Go to <a store that stocks needles> and do that.

^true that.

i've done the same here in australia and the lady who served me was extremely plentiful with information and genuinely interested in helping me. most occasions buying the usual 5 pack gets a snarly look from whoever serves you. go figure.

Try different pharmacies, it may be a policy of that pharmacy.

Also dress nicely and mainstream, try to look older/more mature if you are relatively young, be really polite, know what you're talking about (ask for the syringes by name and size), act confident and like you belong there (<-most important one), don't offer an explanation unless they ask, etc. And as others mentioned, sometimes buying a larger quantity can help.

If they asked to see a prescription I would usually just say I'm visiting from out of town and don't have it with me, or that I am purchasing them for my father who is diabetic, or both - I'm purchasing for my father and we are from out of town. If they said they wanted to see the bottle, I'd say I don't have it on me as I didn't even think that would be required, I buy from this chain all the time back home and have never once been asked for that before, I really don't have time to go all the way back to my auntie's house where we are staying, my father sent me because he was short on time and I'll be sure to remember to bring it next time. But it usually never got to that point. Or if there are a bunch of pharmacies in the area I'd just move on to the next one.

You can read up on insulin-dependent Type 1 diabetes in case they ask you any questions to test you. I have not found the "vitamin injections" excuse to work in my experience. A person would use a different type/size of syringe for vitamins and if you say it's for your pet they say why didn't the vet give you some.

Sometimes I tried to distract them by, for example, purchasing another item (that would not be associated with a drug user), like if I walked up with a pack of gum or some make-up or something, and said "I'd like you to ring this up for me please and I would also like a package of BD 1CC insulin syringes in longs please," or flattered the cashier like, "I love your earrings, where did you get them?" but also not going over the top or chattering excessively.

Also see if there is a needle exchange in your area - although I don't think there are any in Mississippi :( It makes me so sad the lengths people have to go to to get harm reduction supplies. It is so ridiculous, as if they think that everyone is going to quit using drugs because it's hard for them to get clean needles :X

I've bought them online before. There's a site with a ridiculous stock of anything you could want with a strong harm reduction theme (its not like a medical company you would need to deceive). I would say more but I think that's against regulations.

^It's allowed to post info about sites that solely sell harm reduction supplies (provided it's not like your personal website or something). We just don't allow sources for anything else. There are some threads already on where you can buy syringes, micron filters, bacteriostatic water, etc. The OP was just asking what can you do aside from purchasing syringes online.

yea, it is absolutely ridiculous the position one gets put because the pharmacist doesnt "feel like it"...I dont look like im doing anything out of the ordinary with them, clean cut 24 year old girl, so I hadnt had a problem at either Rite Aid in my area (the other places, CVS, Walgreens, Kmart all said no flat out)...but then I go back to the Rite Aid i had bought them at with no problem a week or so ago, and the pharmacist tells me they changed their policy and cant sell them to me without me filling an insulin script there...so I gave that same story, Mom and I were in from out of town, she desperately needed a dose of insulin and sent me to get what she needed...he seemed to believe me, especially after I rattled off some brand names of insulin, and went to fetch a 10 pack for me..now I had asked for 1cc ultrafine shorts, and he comes back with....
30 UNIT rigs. 30 f*cking units. I tell him this will not work, that she needs to take a larger does than 30 units, but he says this is ALL they have until they restock (showed me the empty shelves too, so he wasnt just trying to make it so I couldnt use them for anything fun). I took them since it was better than nothing, but now im stuck with the smallest rigs ive ever seen...seriously they are like toy needles or something, and am scared every time that im not using enough water to dissolve my shots of tar and its going to kill me. f*cking ridiculous.
No exchanges around here, and Im not currently in a living situation thats ideal to have them delivered from ordering online...I actually saw on the news the other day (I live in a huge casino area) that the casinos are having a problem with people coming in and stealing old rigs out of the sharp disposal boxes in the bathrooms...not only does it turn my stomach to think of fishing a dirty rig somebody's grandmother used out of that box, but also that it has come to that for some people all because pharmacists (in a state with no syringe prescription laws no less) think theyre doing people a favor...sorry for the long post, just ranting!!

go to <various places that stock needles> and ask to buy a box of 1cc 30 gauge needles.

if it were this easy, i wouldnt be asking the question...i know how to walk into a pharmacy and ask for 1cc ultrafine ("preferably shorts if ya have em"), but my go to places just changed their policies and now require a prescription to be filled for insulin...i was asking if any of you clever BLs had any tried and true "lines" that work in a situation like this
i remember reading something somewhere about how you can buy some type of insulin over the counter, so someone would just get that and then bring it to the pharmacist and ask for the rigs to go with it..anyone ever heard of this?

It depends on the state - some states have OTC insulin, some don't. You would have to learn about the types of insulin and know exactly what to ask for. It's also not cheap.

Have you tried every pharmacy in town? That's what I'd do until I found a new go-to one. Or have syringes mailed to a friend's or a PO box.

Our policy on sources for HR supplies has been a little unclear in the past, but at the mo we unfortunately can't allow discussion of specific sources (so no linking to websites - even ones that only stock HR supplies - or mentioning specific shops, pls). This may change in future and is under discussion currently, but for the time being we must stick to that policy.

I appreciate you weren't asking for specific sources though OP, and I do really sympathise with your problem. Access to clean needles and other HR supplies should be a lot easier than it is :!

I've removed the names of specific stores. I'm also going to close this, as it's borderline for what we currently allow, and you've been given pretty much all the advice we can give. We definitely can't really advise you on where/how to obtain insulin so you can purchase syringes.. Also, this is kind of regional, but I'm not sure what NASASADD's policy is on sourcing needles. Good luck with your hunt <3

Closed, PM me with any queries.
