High intake of cholesterol shown to repair damaged brains

Nowhere did I say that cholesterol was "bad for you" there. Chris Masterjohn definitely has some salient points (TL;DR: high cholesterol intake not associated with heart disease, cholesterol is an essential nutrient, statins are probably harmful).

His website is http://www.cholesterol-and-health.com (Looks a little hype ridden) - on it he points out that he's a Ph.D. student in one of the biological sciences.

The popular assumption is still that intake of large amounts of fatty foods (Atkins esque) will make you fat, or is otherwise unhealthy is definitely wrong. In the end it's calories in vs calories out, provided all your daily nutrients/vitamins/minerals are accounted for. (But let's not get into the biomechanics of dieting).

Arterial plaque has been demonstrated to consist partly of LDL and cholesterol. Gallstones are occasionally found to be more than 50% cholesterol (some are >90% ) by weight. So cholesterol homeostasis may be the problem rather than impact from any dietary cholesterol.

sekio there are many bad side effects associated with statins lowering cholesterol. not statins directly influencing anything beyond influence of cholesterol which causes negative side effects. i was wondering why it is that promotion of vegetable material lowering cholesterol similar way and blocking production of it naturally within the liver more acceptable ? seems to me, anything that influences cholesterol might have a noticeable effect on the whole body in general and changes in the long run depending on your idea of positive or negative. i dont think its smart idea to promote anything lowering cholesterol good idea. perhaps new way of seeing how to deal with plaques and heart problems.

I'm pretty sure sitosterol and other plant sterols don't inhiit cholesterol synthesis very strongly. Def. not as strong as statins.
