Best drug for long term - Anxiety

^noted I usually only have one cup of coffee a day.
I went to the doc and he saw that I was checked in for suspected tylenol ovredose (I was being safe) and that kinda deterred him. I found out my Blood tests came back good which will keep me from worrying about getting aids or something like that.

He did perscribe me ritalin instead of concerta thinking that the shorter action may help me more, but he really didnt sympathize to much with the anxiety.. Maybe things will change in 4 weeks.

Another question, I used to do big extractions on concerta to take out the time release. Will Ritalin feel the same as the extracting the concerta? Im hoping it feels cleaner or something cause I get WAY more dose if the opposite is true.

It will feel the same, just less drawn out...

My question is, how do you get a more (bam) stimulant without the doctors fear (should have feared) of exaggerating the anxiety?

I reccomend large therapeutical doses of lyrica. 600 mg a day...

This is long long long term... You can be on this for years, with no drawbacks to WD just the same anxiety coming back.

I got phenobarbital at one point. Blew everything out of the water. I mean everything. I could even smoke weed again while I was on it.

Even used it as a protectant from my high dose PCP crusades...

You'd have really hard time getting anyone to prescribe that in then UK, bards I hardly used at all these days at all here AFAIK

I take Valium, Klonopin and Celexa. I will be on these meds for the rest of my life due to my anxiety and coming off of Benzos is a bitch!

I was prescribed mirtazapine when I was diagnosed with depression and GAD. It helped both conditions.

The stuff nearly pushed me back over the edge, I felt constantly just like I was coming up on acid, kept with it for about 7-8 days then had an accident in the car and just refused to take anymore.

ADs seem to have such varying effects more than any other area of drugs I've ever come across, I suppose they are messing with the most complex and least understood part of our body so it would follow that that would be the case. Some times it feels like doctors treat you like some kind of fekin train set to be played about with to see what happens

Has anyone tried a beta-blocker for anxiety before??
It was once suggested to me by a dr but ive never heard of anyone taking it for anti-axiety use. it does say on wikipedia it can be used for anxiety
Also, you could try some herbals. Valerian root was a VERY effective anxiolytic for me. Valerian root has actions with GABA and benzodiazepine receptors, without being nearly as overpowering and cognitive-impairing as benzodiazepines can be. Kava is another good one with GABA actions.
Someone else was saying that Valerian root is more for sleeping. So u dont take it during the day?
I'll do a bit of reading on wikipedia. I dont really need anything for sleeping cuz I take Zyprexa but anything that has action on the same receptors as benzos sounds good to me.

Which do u guys think is better Valarian root or Kava?
both are available otc here in aus but i think the Kava tablets have a low % of kavalactones the active ingrediant & because of the other stuff in the pills taking a large enough dose to actually get a decent effect would poison yaself & it's expensive to buy

Id assume Valarian root & Kava are the strongest otc anti-anxiety suppliments. Does anyone know of any otc stuff more effective?

Beta-blockers can work really well for the physical symptoms of anxiety - especially the racing heart, tremor and nausea - as they block the sympathetic nervous system's action (which is our fight or flight mechanism) at the beta-adrenergic receptors (hence the name beta-blocker). Propranolol is often used as it is non-selective, meaning it knocks out beta receptors all over the body, as opposed to cardioselective ones which only really slow down the heart rate and force of contraction.

For some people, not having a racing heart and a sicky, jittery feeling is enough to overcome the mental aspects of anxiety, but for others they don't work so well. They're pretty handy for things like driving tests or public speeches though!

People with asthma shouldn't take beta blockers, especially non-selective ones, as they can cause a narrowing of the airways which can bring on an asthma attack..

yea thats what I figured, Just wondering cause I work in a pharmacy and asked the pharmacist and he said that there is actually a different combination of amps in it or something. I thought it was just the lactose..

I thought the same with amps INCREASING anxiety. I told him this, and right away he told me I should try the short release vs the extended. Hes the one with the degree, although docs are generally notorious for lack of compassion when it comes to anxiety and depression

To me Xanax is best for rough times but Diazepam for longer term anxiety treatment. I do not careif the fda guidelines say otherwise the fda says a lot of shit, such as 60mgs is max dose for Dexedrine in adults but some adults are prescribed 80mgs a day. The best medicine for your anxiety may not be a benzodiazepine maybe its something a beta blocker can help but honestly I feel Benzos out of all medications are best long or short term. I think people/physicians with a lack of understanding of benzodiazepines inparticular, results in a drug stigma that is completely absurd. I feel if doctors think SSRI'S are Healthier then thats a dumb doctor as my anxiety was mainly from prozac and stopping it. It took 3 long years to realize that Xanax was my doc for anxiety.

Im on adderall and have social anxiety too my doc prescribed me 1mg Lorazepam 2X aday as needed............well its just not that great, at least not at theraputic doseages i have to take at least 3 or 4 to get any use from them and maybe drink a few shots after that...This makes me have far less medication than i should every month but im honestly scared that if i ask for a higher dose or something he is gonna think im trying to get high off the shit, when in fact i dont get high unless i take about 6 1mg pills at once..
I honestly would rather be on Xanax 1mg or so but idk how he'd look at that....

I wonder if he would prescribe me some GabaPentin or Baclofen orsomethin to go with the Lorazepam, fuck i'd take some lyrica too though...

Hydroxyzine is not for SHIT..Matter of fact the last docter that prescribed me buspar then hydroxyzine, i cut that bitch off...for good.

ANyway yea id like relief without having to abuse my shit you know?

Neurontin (gabapentin) or Lyrica (pregabalin)

Hydroxyzine

If you have to resort to benzodiazepines: Diazepam or clonazepam
If you're not into natural stuff, I highly recommend clonazepam, just don't fall into the trap of taking more than you need :)

I know this is an old thread but how the hell did you get all that?!? I only got 60 3mg alprazolam XR a month for my GAD, and it's fairly severe.

I have taken a lot of antidepressants and anti anxiety meds over the years. I am diagnosed with depression and an anxiety disorder since i was in high school, and have seen a lot of different doctors over the years. Recently, the depression has not been so much of an issue, but the anxiety is still a big problem for me. I switched doctors about 4 months ago, because I moved, and he switched me from zoloft and xanax to Effexor and klonopin. I have to say out of all the meds i have taken for my mental health issues, nothing has helped my anxiety as much as effexor has. I mean, obviously benzos are best for immediate relief, but for long term anxiety relief I strongly recommend you talk to your doctor about Effexor (venlafaxine) I've only been on it for 4 months, but after the 1st month i noticed a huge difference in my day to day anxiety. When I was on zoloft I needed to use my xanax a lot, because the zoloft just didn't give the relief I needed. Now, i actually feel calm and (for the most part) anxiety free everyday, and have found myself needing the klonopin less and less. Good luck, i feel for you, anxiety is the worst!
