I'm alive so I guess I'll survive
Maybe this should go in the cannibis discussion, anyway I went to the bank today to look at income protection.

Bank manager asked a few questions about me, one that I actually had to think about was 'do you smoke'.
Normally I would have said straight away 'yes', but in the last month or so I've been converted to vaping weed, and gotten off the nicotine.

I told him that I do smoke, but that will change soon, he just wrote me down as being a smoker.
Should I have said no?

Has anyone else whos been converted to a vaporiser feel that their not classed as a smoker anymore?
Probably get asked the same question for other products offered by banks or insurance companies.

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't discriminate between smoking/vaping, and I assume if they found afterwards that your application contained false information then they wouldn't pay out. I think being classed as a smoker was the safer option in your case.

I guess it depends if you are a gambling man or not. Being a smoker means higher premiums, which exist to cover the increased chance of them having to pay out on the unhealthy. Like divine moments mentioned, they can refuse to pay out policies if they find you have lied. Reality is though most income protection policies in young people are to cover time off from work due to injury from an accident or acute illness. Smoking related illness would be less likely if you are under say 50. Personally I would answer "No", and take the punt that they are unlikely to know that you use, and save yourself money or that you will have a good lawyer to argue that vaping is not smoking and their policies are behind the times.

Of course it is hard to take a stand if you have an accident and they then find cannabis following a blood test.

Just get that awesome lawyer to say I eat the shit.

I didnt really think this one through, sort of just realised how hard it would be for them to even see me vaping something, let alone smoking, seen as I don't do it anymore.

Yeah - "No" is the correct answer imo as well. It's such a vague question really that I think you can, somewhat honestly, say you're not.

I think the reality of a lot of these policies is that a single cigarette... ever... may classify you as a smoker. But they don't necessarily explain this unless you probe so go with the cheaper option (bit late now though).

I'm about to be in the same boat as been off the cigs for about 9-10 weeks or more but smoke weed a few times a week when I apply as I'm a single father & I would consider myself a non smoker as i feel they (insurance co) mean ciggarette smoker & as I don't walk around with a joint all day. & any lawer would state that I'd eaten it. as Cap Brewster said

Smoking is not the same as vaporizing. So id say no as well. Vaporizing is by far healthier. You don't smoke and you don't use nicotine even if they tested you so I dont see what the problem is. It's not like they asked you do you use any illicit substances or anything so u'll be fine.
