For those of you that go to pain clinics do you see the doctor every visit or just see a nurse most of the time. At the one I started going to in jan I only saw the doc the first 2 visits and the rest I just saw the nurse. I really hate that found a clinic with a very good, caring, smart, and logical doc yet now I just see the nurse who is rude, uncaring, and uneducated. She even has the nerve to try and down play my conditions. I went on a rant about her a few pages back. I don't even bother asking her quistions anymore since she is not going be able to answer them.

I always saw the dr, he unfortunately was an absolutely horrible person though so I think I would rather have seen a nurse lol.

Someone plz put me down in a humane way, this is overwhelming.

If you won't end my misery then wish me the best of luck on this six hour drive I have to take to get home.

best of luck on your drive. and I hate to ask, but... song lyrics, or your owns words? I ask because I've seen lots of 'friends' on fb post similar downer kinda posts, and when I ask them 'what's wrong?', they're like 'oh nothing, those are just song lyrics'.

my fiance is in pm, and it takes fucking forever to see the doc. it doesnt matter if her appt time is 10:30am, she aint getting home until at least 5pm. i dont understand how someone can be 3.5hrs behind just 1.5hrs into their business day, ALL THE TIME. and I hate seeing docs for the same reason. if I get there at 9am, I dont get seen until 10:30 or 11, but if I am 2 min late, they will cancel my appt. :!

Anybody else on here use amitriptyline?

I was gonna go back to my GP last week to see if i could get some DHC but he was on a week off & he's the only doc in the clinic i will see.

However! I've been prescribed 75 mg of amitriptyline per day for insomnia & depression & the doc seemed to think it would help my pain too in combiantion with the methadone i'm taking. At first i'd take the 75 in one go at night, but now i've found if i take 25mg during the day, just before or just after the methadone, it potentiates the analgsic effects of the meth very well indeed.

Anybody else here use amitriptyline? If not it might be a good idea to ask your doc about it as i've read some research saying it is often scripted in combination with opiates.

It seems to have a gneral numbing effect on the entire body in fact. The downside of that being that even my penis is a little numbed & achieveing an orgasm is quite difficult indeed & when i do manage to cum it's not nearly as intense.... Other than that it seems to be an excellent med for me.

Uhh yeah, definitely not song lyrics. Those words are my own.

Yep, go into your clinic in person, and have them print you out a physical paper copy, and ask for them to send the electronic copy to your new clinic.

K. I will try that. I just don't want to be too pushy. I don't want to make my current one mad and then the other one not take me. That would suck really bad.

Be as pushy as you want, you have every right as a pain patient, as long as you're pushy within reason. CPPers need to learn to stand up for themselves, we have rights too! It's not our fault that we legit CPPers get so much shit from doctors, the blame for that can be pointed at our drug enforcement agency.

You need to find a new PM doc. I have been through 6 in 6 years and have had them ranging from too many RX's, too few RX's, too many in-office procedures, and one that committed suicide and I have now hit the jackpot with my new PM!

This guy insists on seeing me every 2 weeks just to keep an eye on my recovery from surgery. He takes the time to call my other doctors and always walks in to my exam room with all the facts and nuances of my situation up to the point I see him and he is fully engaging with me. No need to remind him of things said before, no need to spend time jumping through unnecessary bullshit. He cares about me as a person and as a patient and does not just treat me like $$ is all that matters.

Scrutinize your PM's engagement of the situation, make sure he is communicating with your other physicians and make sure he or she is not just pushing things on you for the value of being able to bill your insurance for it.

My fellow CPP, stand up for yourselves! We deserve nothing but the best care possible.

I am terrified about getting a clinic that undermedicates me if I switch and am not sure if I want to take that risk. Right now my current doc has me on a propper dose of opiates unlike my previous one that for the most part does a pretty good job at helping my pain and don't know if I would be able to go on living if I had to go back to the way I was before I was on this dose. When I got my opiates from my rhuematologst I saw the doc every month It makes no sence that my pain doc is not doing the same; it's not like her office is supper busy. I go there on monday and will ask them if I am seeing the doc and when they say I am just seeing the nurse I will start asking why I don't see the doc anymore. Like I said before the actual doc at that office is good. There are lots of quistons about new treatments and medicationsI want to ask but I wont even bother with the nurse. If she gives me a hard time again I will stand up to her. It really sickend me how she had the fucking nerve to say I'm making excuses when I told her my extramly bad insomnia that causes me to be up for over 24 and sometimes almost 48 hours is preventing me from taking my meds at the exact same time everyday. She was like I don't care you need to set an alarm. I would love to see what the doctor has to say about all the bs she said.

I feel your pain bro. My age has been a "cockblock" so to speak for proper medical care the entire time. Other doctors have been more compassionate, others dont feel comfortable having me on non-compounded opiates.

I did best on morphine, but my current clinic is the type that things "oh you're too young to be taking that, we'll put you on percocet instead"

I get a phone call last week, a checkup and asking me if I needed refills, and I say "yes I'm doing great on my current regimen finally getting stabilized, although I need to go back on my soma" (they fucking took me off 2800mg soma which I had been taking for YEARS without problems when I first joined this clinic) and they say to me "Oh, well, we're going to give you 20 less opioids this month and see how you do at a lower dose, and no you can't have soma"

WTF I just told them that I was finally getting stabilized and they reduce my oxy script?! I'm pretty fucking pissed. Soma was AWESOME for me because 1) it killed a lot of my cramping/GI pain 2) it wasn't scheduled until jan, 2012. 3) it reduced my opioid intake 4) it didn't constipate me like opioids do.

/rant.....

edit: Out of all these RC cannabinoids, do any have better analgesic properties than the natural occurring cannabinoids? I'm not interested in trying any, but do any CPPers use synthetic cannabinoids?

I hear what you have all been saying. I don't know what to do anymore with so much constant CP, and always dealing with the Doc and his RN's that think they should be the Dr.s . Then you have the tolerance and withdrawl issues. I have been on Opana ER for over 7 years with the same doc and he doesn't seem to believe me that the new delivery system that Opana has created just isn't working for me. I'm afraid to piss him off, but am treated like I don't have the right to question any other drug choices he provides. Am also stuck as he is the only PM doc who accepts workers comp. patients any more in my town. I think that I'd really blow him away if I asked about cannabis. He is probably only in his late 70s! What do you think? Should I chance it?

Nothing wrong with telling a doctor to their face that they aren't meeting your healthcare needs. In fact, there's nothing better than telling a doctor this to their face, because when you complain through their networks (nurses, etc.) it just looks like complaining or drug seeking, such has been my experience. You have every right to be a part of your own treatment regimen.

I also feel stuck because the only PM clinic in my area covered by my insurance treats me like an addict due to my age, so I'm pretty sure I'll have to start driving 2-3 hours in each direction to the next pain clinic my insurance covers instead of just 1 hour in each direction -______-.

And we chronic pain patients love nothing more than 2-3 hours in the car, am I right?!

About a month ago I had a motorcycle accident and smashed my tibia, 2 major fractures below the knee and the top part inside the knee like a jigsaw puzzle, it was dislocated in the accident, I don't think I will ever forget it being put back in whilst I lay on the road8o

Whilst in Hospital I was given oral and IV Morphine, on release I have been prescribed APAP and MS Contin at 60mgs a day, I would have been given Tramadol but I've been on Venlafaxine for sometime and the 2 don't mix well.

Living in the UK it does seem that doctors are far more cautious with pain meds so whilst I don't have to rely on medical insurance, I'm already under pressure to reduce the MS Contin dose from my doctor despite being told by the doctor at the Hospital that I should prepare myself for long term pain due to the state of my knee.

I have a history of drug abuse which is known to my doctor, but no history with opiates. I'm always concious that I might be viewed as drug seeking.

I already have problems with the right knee and collapsed arches in my feet so it's a given I'm going to need some kind of pain relief for sometime, I need to speak to my doctor next week as my current script is almost out.

I'm not convinced the MS Contin is working very well for me as I'm still in pain quite a lot of the time, APAP has always been useless to me and I'm not keen on taking 4g a day for any period, I can't take any NSAIDs as I had a stomach bleed a while back.

Any views on what might be better options, currently my doctor wants me down to 20mgs of MS Contin before he steps me down to something else, I don't think this is practical:\

You are more than within your own right to tell him you do not want any changes made to your pain management treatment.

Honestly, morphine is the best pain killer out there, if you want to switch due to lack of efficacy not due to side effects, then I'd say try a higher dose of morphine, that's really not that high of a dose that you're on right now.

Thanks tricomb, I've always managed to avoid opiates recreationally as I know what a drug pig I can be with anything I get my hands on so its only after looking at the dosages people are taking here and you confirmation that I realise that the MST may be fine and I just need a higher dose.

The hassle they put my partner through just to get the script filled was crazy, ID and signing stuff, much more than any meds I've ever had before, such a big deal had been made over it and my doctor was so keen to get me off ASAP I felt like it was a problem when it isn't.

He's a decent doctor so I'll see what he has to say tomorrow, but I may ask him to speak to the doctor at the hospital so he fully understands the situation, at the moment I think he is in the mind set that I'm just recovering from the operation and that the pain will be getting less, unfortunately as I recover there is going to be more pain as the metal frame is adjusted to allow for more bending of the knee and I have to have physio.

Question to you CPP that have no 'physical' reason for your pain ( car accident, compartmented spine shizzle cant remembe rthe others) have you been told that its either CBT or 'waiting for the pain to burn out' much?
Rheumatoid appointment the other day brought up nothing new except a vitamin D deficicie which im taking 40,000mgs of a day for now but othe than that all the doc said to me is CBT or hope the pain goes away.
Oh isn't that just so fucking delightful!
