As a harm reduction issue, of course one should never consume phenazepam, etizolam, or any benzodiazepine powder. Most people recommend dissolving in Propylene Glycol for volumetric measurement.
However, PG (or PEG) isn't always easy to obtain. Many dissolve Etiz and Phenaz powder in 1mg/1ml solutions of 90%+ ethanol, vodka, or isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol; at the level of a few ml, especially if evaporated before consumption, it poses minimal risk).
** This is not about intravenous or any use with needles, so no need to go on that trip! **
HERE'S THE QUESTION I CAN'T FIND AN ANSWER TO:
Are benzodiazepines stable in alcohol under ordinary conditions (no sunlight or extreme temperatures)?
(I checked what scientific abstracts and discussion boards I could over several hours in the past few days, and have seen the topic addressed, but never anything definitive. Just advice to get you sum PG.)
The best I have been able to find are a few anecdotal reports on discussions groups, and in medical literature reports on the effects of ethanol on the degradation of benzodiazepines/metabolites in blood samples. Not especially definitive. I personally don't believe the degradation is great over a period of, say, a few weeks - a month or two, based on experiences dissolving phenazepam 1mg/1ml about 8 years ago. But I don't trust my own assessment.
Does anyone happen to know?
Anyone with a chemistry/pharmaceutical science background?
Educated guesses, advice, and anecdotal wisdom welcome, too, as always.
