Hello all,

Over the past 2 and a half months I have used cocaine approximately 10 - 15 times. I would say I only truly indulged in the cocaine experience 4 - 5 out of those times, meaning I bought a gram or so and finished it off in a night with a friend. All the other times I basically just took 3 - 4 small to moderate sized bumps over the course of the night.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice as to how infrequent I need to keep my usage in order to avoid dependence. I enjoy using coke, but it's not something I really care all that much about. To me it's more of a boost for my nights and not so much a recreational drug that has any value on its own. I have never experienced any cravings or desire to consume it. Cocaine's addictive properties are quite infamous, is this stigma accurate at all?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, you can't really avoid addiction just by planning to use only a certain number of times a month or something like that. If you get addicted you won't be able to control your use. It is a very quickly addicting drug, in that you can do some and crave more and more the same night. So it gets to a point where you keep doing it until all the drug you have is gone. Maybe the next time you do it, when you run out, you decide to buy some more instead of stopping. Soon you are buying it in larger quantities or doing it every weekend, and eventually (or rapidly) it can move on to every day. There is really no way to prevent addiction other than not using it at all. Some people can use it and not get seriously addicted (at least not for more than that evening), but there is no way to know beforehand if you are one of those people. You can also get addicted without using it every day, a person can have an addiction even when they only use a drug once a week or something, as addiction is defined by behaviours and not frequency.

If it's not something you care about, then why do it? Personally I don't think it's worth the risk, and most people who eventually got addicted started out with infrequent recreational use and said that they could take or leave the drug.

Thanks for the responses. Even though I do not feel as though I am becoming addicted, I have decided to just stop using it altogether, or at least only on rare occasions. Sometimes I find myself wondering if I have a drug problem or not. I am not physically addicted to any substance, but I use a variety of drugs frequently, so I suppose that could be considered a problem. Since I don't know where I am headed with this it would probably be best to just stop for some time. Perhaps I can just switch to weed and alcohol only, but I know I'll miss my opiates :)

That's a really good idea. I just don't think that the risks are worth the short-term rewards when it comes to hard addictive drugs.

You can definitely have a drug "problem" or addiction without being physically dependent on a drug or taking a specific drug on a daily basis. Addiction is defined as when a person repeatedly uses a drug (or a number of drugs) or engages in a behaviour despite adverse consequences, has impaired control over their use of the substances/behavior, or is preoccupied with the drug(s)/behaviour. You don't necessarily have to have all of these factors: for example, a lot of people are in denial about their addiction (especially in the beginning stages), so they may not believe there are adverse consequences, or the adverse consequences can be delayed, like someone is not noticing any yet but rationally knows that the drug use will lead them to adverse consequences to their health or life in the future but they keep doing it anyway. Addiction is generally characterized by immediate gratification coupled with delayed adverse effects. All you care about it wanting to feel good now and you aren't thinking of the future (or you are but your actions don't reflect those thoughts), or you use more or more often than you planned to, or you feel cravings for drugs, or lose interest in other activities you once enjoyed. People can get addicted to anything, it doesn't have to be an addictive drug. I am addicted to reading/posting on Bluelight for example ;) But hard drugs are a lot easier to get addicted to and the addiction is usually a lot more damaging to one's life.

Anyway, I think the best plan is to not use hard drugs at all (cocaine, opioids, meth). But if you are not ready for that and sincerely feel you are capable of using them in moderation only a couple times a year then I don't see a huge problem with that, the problem is many of us are not capable of that, at least not for long. You could always set yourself a guideline, like I am not going to use again until my birthday, or something like that, and if you find yourself having trouble keeping that promise to yourself then you'll know it's not a good idea to use at all. Plenty of enjoyment and interesting experiences can be had from relatively safe drugs such as marijuana and psychedelics.

The fact that your cocaine use has gotten more and more frequent is a sign that it's time for a break.

Totally agree with the other poster's and well done you for knocking your use on the head before it gets out of hand.
Virtually everyone I know myself included, that has tried coke, has become addicted. Whether like myself who did it everyday rather than face 'normality' I gave it up, only to replace with something else, and the stuff I did to fund my daily habit wasn't pretty. One of my mates who gets her wage on a Friday and after paying off what she's had on 'tick' through the week, blows the rest on sniff for Fri night and spends the next 6 days scratching round for borrows. My brother who insists he's not addicted, but won't have a night out if he aint got at least a gram in his pocket - you get the idea.
None of us thought to ourselves 'hey, I wanna be a cokehead' I certainly thought of it as a once in a bluemoon treat, which seemed to occur more and more often and before you know it, bang, I'd wake up and do a line and do until I couldn't do it anymore - 1 day I finally realised I was doing it just for the sake of it and didn't even enjoy it anymore - not everyone has that realisation.
I'm sure there are people that do only enjoy coke once in a blue moon, but I reckon that a hell of a lot more people get addicted, the extent of addiction will no doubt vary, but still addicted nonetheless.
Without a shadow I will NEVER touch that stuff ever again, its pure evil once hooked. Fair enough, I am on something else, but nothing that gives me the 'need more, need more' craving and that causes me to act so completely self absorbed like cocaine.
So very wise choice mate, I would not wish cocaine dependance - especially to the daily/blow every last penny extent - on my worse enemy.

Coke and freebae coke can being that devil on your shoulder before you've even blinked an eye. I did coke a few times here and there wasn't that big of a deal. Until a couple people I knew offered a pipe over to me. They didn't look like crack heads, so I figured what the hell I'll give it a whirl. I went on a year long binge smoking that shit everyday all day. Now I'm not saying you'll do this but eventually the high you got won't do anything for you and you'll look for ways ot increase the high or make it better. Don't go down the road, clip it before you get lost in insanity.

Yea it gets bad quick. I can't enjoy myself out while drinking on a weekend anymore without blow it's just like a requirement at this point. I was using every weekend since February, after first trying it in october and slowly using it more often, in larger quantities.

Finally this just past weekend I didn't buy any blow for the first weekend in 4 months and am now currently 9 days clean. I'm tryna make this a month long break and then keep my usage Arno more than once a month, if not less from now on but fuck ya it's addictive. I stole for the first time since I was a kid from my parents to buy a gram and I think it was at that point I stepped back and had to take a look at myself. Like biggie said check ya self before ya wreck yourself.

My opinion: This drug is worthless. Short length, addiction rate, and little noticeable effects compared to other speedy type drugs all make for a horrible and worthless drug. Stop while you can as this can turn into addiction and from coke addiction comes crack with most. It becomes very expensive and dangerous.

I still don't know how anybody likes this or finds the need to chase the high... IMO the high from coke sucks and its extremely weak compared to other highs.

Again, thanks for all the replies.

It shouldn't be hard to completely cut cocaine out of my life since I don't really enjoy it all that much. I just like drugs and even though coke is not my favorite, it's still a blast to snort and is an effective buzz booster.

I have been using opiates once a week for about a year and a half. I have managed to stick to that regiment even though I would prefer taking the damn things every day. I think that will be my hardest thing to "kick". I say kick in parentheses because it's just a matter of me deciding to not take them for a while, luckily I have no physical withdrawals. But 99% of the time my rationals get the best of me. For instance, i'll tell myself "this time I am going to take a two week break", after the first week I'm rationalizing like crazing why there is no point in taking a longer break... opiates aren't bad for me, I get so much enjoyment out of them, they're not interfering with my life, I've had a stressful week (the best one; when is a week NOT stressful?). Starting last night I have decided to take a 3 week break, we'll see how that goes!

Anyways, not to get off topic. I guess coke cannot be used as a passive drug and it's not like I need another opiate like mistress in my life.

Hahaha this is EXACTLY how I am with coke. I buy like 1g - half ball for the weekend, I use it and during the come-down I'm like wow this is the fucking worst feeling ever I'm NEVER gonna use cocaine again. The next day I'm like yea fuck I'm still not gonna use it for at least a month. By tuesday or wednesday I'm already doing shit to get money for I can buy for the next weekend lol. Once I start craving again I can rationalize using "just one more time" so easily because you forget the comedown but just remember that f*cking euphoria.

and little noticeable effects

The fuck kinda coke you been snorting. One line of some primo shit and I'm fucking in a cloud of euphoria with my eyes almost rolling back in my head, thinking wow the world is such a fucking awesome place this is awesome everything is just awesome. I agree with the short high though, 20 minutes later and it's fading and your thinking wow the world is such a fucking shit place this is fucking shitty, everything is so fucking shitty.

It really does sneak up on you that's for sure. As far as being physically dependent on it, I highly doubt you need to worry. I have been using cocaine for years, anywhere from half a gram to 2+ a day. On the odd day where I don't get blow (and this is only when my dealer has dirt nasty shit, so VERY rarely) the only thing that's different is I'm more irritable than usual. Most coke heads (myself included) think they aren't addicted to it. Usually what makes people realize is one night they wont be able to pick up blow and that ends up ruining the night.

As for all the people saying the comedown is shitty, its only bad with coke cut with nasty stuff. If you get good clean product a 50-100mg line will have you feeling warm and fuzzy, talkative, euphoric as all hell. Its pure bliss, and it'll slowly just fade away back to normal and you won't even notice until you look at the clock and realize its been over an hour since you took that line!

Coke really is insidious in nature. Seems harmless, weekend warrior mentality at first. Then before you know it your doing it everyday, I once did 7grams to myself in 2 days. It wasn't pretty, the tens of thousands of dollars blown (no pun intended lol) yeah but ive since recovered and haven't touched it in months. So it is something you should try once or twice then hang it up, if you can...
