I have found that within the last year or so, I have a very difficult time paying attention to school and work. I can follow mindless things alright (such as reality TV, magazines, etc), however with work and homework, I just cant focus. I'm beginning to think that I may have ADD. I am prescribed 50mg sertraline daily and 1mg lorazepam and 50mg trazadone as needed. Would it be safe to request my doctor to prescribe something like adderall so that I can maintain my focus. I'm 2 classes away from my degree and can't afford to fail out. Also, is this something that my dr could call in to the pharmacy or would I need to go and see her? I'm a "starving student" so I really cant afford a visit. What are the effects of mixing something like adderall with my benzos and sertraline? Thanks.

Cheers. :?

If you can't afford a visit, you probably can't afford adderall either. The shit is expensive as hell.

You need to see your doctor. They will have to write you an actual prescription. Adderall (and all amphetamines) are C-II (U.S. DEA Schedule II) and are strictly controlled.

If/when you see your doctor, make sure to tell them all the medications you are taking. I know trazodone and Adderall could have an adverse reaction with each other...but in the end, its the choice you and your doctor need to make.

#1--you'd have to go in...they don't call amphetamines into the pharmacy..you actually have to go pick up
the rx..which i'm sure she'd require a visit to rx in the 1st place...
#2 the other poster is right...methylphenidate(ritalin) is the only add med that's even close to being cheap...
#3 lack of focus doesn't necessarily indicate add...but is a side effect of pretty much any emotional problem...depression, anxiety...all those lovely things that make life awesome!!
#4 i still wish you luck...hope you find something that works for you. :)

Slightly deviating down another track of thought now you've got a few replies: if you're using drugs heavily etc.. this could well be the source of your lack of mental focus on complex tasks. I ended a 6 month heavy stim habit about a month ago and am only just starting to be able to reason out problems properly again. Can't even look at my uni work without getting in a massive fluster about it!

Also diet & exercise as always can play a big role in all sorts of things.

Not sure how it works in the US, but here in UK, you'd have to be reffered to a psychiatrist for a full mental health evalution and diagnosis before any medication like that would be considered.
Lack of concentration, as others have said, can be down to many different illnesses/lifestyle choices.

In the end, we're not doctors and can't diagnose you with anything one way or the other...

If you're having issues, see a doctor. If that doctor doesn't give you the help you feel you deserve/need, find another doctor.

I'm going to go ahead and close this thread since its been answered as well as we can answer it. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or concerns, OP.
