Germany - Ruhr
One wouldn't call it actually beautiful around here, but the Ruhr area has its own charm. Traditionally it was a industrial center - one of the biggest steel and coal providers in the world - until the coal deposits ran short in the 70s. Now you can observe the strange image of gigantic industrial sites slowly reconquered by nature or transformed into space for art and culture. The people around here are considered a bit gruff and forthright, but hearty and down-to-earth. It is also one of the most multicultural spots of Europe, since people from many other countries - Poland, Turkey Italy, Spain, the Balkans among many others - came here to work. Football (Soccer, for those from the US) is kind of a religion here - every bigger city has a professional team and lots of frenetic supporters.
I wouldn't wanna live anywhere else.
