Hey guys n gals
I was having a rummage through my medicine cabinet to see if there was anything i could get a nice buzz off.I stumbled across as fair bit of epilim witch my old man was prescribed for pain.after a quick google search i found that it works basicly like lyrica but prescribed more often cos its on the PBS so much cheaper than the stupidly high price of lyrica.

"Sodium valproate is a weak blocker of sodium ion channels, it is also a weak inhibitor of enzymes that inactivate GABA such as GABA transaminase. There is some evidence that sodium valproate may also stimulate the synthesis of GABA but the direct mechanism is not known. Because of its many mechanisms of action sodium valproate has efficacy in all partial and generalised seizures including absence seizures."

i enjoy combing lyrica with a light amount of benzos so i was wondering if i could get someone with some experience to tell me if my theory is right????

thanks in advanced

care to elaborate?
Sure, from what I have read regarding what does/does not work to potentiate benzos; Alcohol, cimetide, and 100% white grapefruit juice, or a grapefruit itself no doubt and nothing else, There's a ton of warnings about avoiding benzodiazepines when taking Sodium Valproate but I've never read anything about it actually doing so.

I did find a study on PubMed that said it did potentiate clonazepam with high doses of sodium valproate and it should be avoided. Though, if my memory serves me correctly, I was taking Epilim for a little while not high doses however and consuming a bucket load of alprazolam and I never noticed any synergy. I'll try and find this article a bit later, sorry guys I'm a bit of a rush, when I get home.

How about that? Post 11: "Potinate"
:)

Cheers,
Ash.

Treatment of generalized epilepsies of childhood and adolescence with sodium valproate ("epilim").
A total of 142 patients (84 per cent aged less than 20 years) with various forms of generalized epilepsy have been treated with sodium valproate alone or in combination with other drugs. The mean duration of symptoms was six years, and half the patients had daily seizures. Nine patients had typical absences, 33 had absences with automatisms, 28 had tonic-clonic seizures with or without photosensitivity, and 72 had various forms of myoclonic epilepsy. Dosage varied from 23 to 54mg/kg and twice-daily administration was usual. Estimation of serum levels did not assist in management. Fits ceased in 63 per cent of all cases and a further 18 per cent showed improvement greater than 50 per cent. Of the 69 with 3c/sec spike-and-wave discharges, 81 per cent became free from all fits, as did 77 percent of those with myoclonic jerks. Fits ceased in eight of the 32 patients with myoclonic astatic epilepsy and there was improvement greater than 50 per cent in a further eight patients. Other anticonvulsants were often withdrawn and always reduced. 21 patients received sodium valproate alone from the start of treatment and all other drugs were withdrawn in another 38. Sodium valproate alone controlled all fits in four children with absences, in 18 with absences with automatisms, 10 with tonic-clonic seizures and 22 with myoclonic epilepsy. Side-effects were rare, mild and often temporary. Potentiation of barbiturates and benzodiazepines occurred, especially clonazepam, which should be avoided. Many patients were more alert. Sodium valproate appears to be the drug of choice for epilepsies associated with generalized spike-and-wave discharges, myoclonic epilepsies or photosensitive epilepsies, and is of especial value in children and mentally retarded patients because it lacks sedating effects and often induces liveliness

I can honestly say 400mg sodium valproate and valium do shit all together, can only feel the valium.

Sorry :(

I also noticed no effects of 200-400mg sodium valproate on its own either.

Don't mess with Lyrica or Epilim (i.e. sodium valproate) unless you have to. I've been having a good ole time on Lyrica ( 300-450 mg a day) for neuropathic oain resulting from a total knee replacemet but they're damned expensive so I had to stop and did I wish I was dead. Withdrawals aren't physical but your brain feels like it has too much electricity spinning around it. Powerful suicidal ideas just to stop the mental torment. I live on the 19th floor, my little dog saved my life. Just the thought of him looking down as I plummetted was enough to stop me. The little tike. I've gone through extreme jangles from bashing Vitamin C, it was child's play compared to this.
I'm presently on 2 Epilim a night with 2 Temtabs (Temazepam 10 mg) just to keep me calm but I'm still suffering even though I'm on 90mg of Methadone daily for pain managment. If you're going to mess with it occasionally maybe you'll be OK but I wouldn't go near the stuff ever again. Once I'm off this stuff that's it for me; honestly man no amount of physical pain would come near this mental horror. Stay away, Cheers

Talk to your doctor about swapping to gabapentin, it has the same effect (and for me, less side effects) as Lyrica, and is about 1/2 the price.

I wouldn't call it a potentiator as and it's not really recreational in itself, but it does give a nice mood boost and a relaxing sensation that is nice by itself or goes well with other drugs.

i have but gabapentin acts as a stimulant to me.i find it very recreational on its own.good to go out on and had me dancing like a retard for 4-5 hours solid but its not the effect im after when it comes to lyrica n these sort of drugs....gabapentin just stimulates me to much and makes the benzos i dose along with it pretty much worthless

Some people will get high on anything if they think it will give them a head spin.

"I have a medicine cabinet of unknown psych drugs, they make me feel sleepy so they must be safe for a healthy brain."

You can also sniff paint: news at 6.30

Epilim is primarily used to treat epilepsy. It is what I would consider a "don't fuck around with your mental health" drug. One of it's most serious side effects is on your liver. If you happen to be a chronic drug or alcohol abuser then your liver is already under enough strain. If you are smart enough to CWE then you should probably also be cautious of this drug.

It is sometimes used as a mood stabiliser or control mania. Mixing it with benzos may potentiate but that doesn't mean it is a good idea. Not to mention it can also cause depression and in some cases suicidal thoughts. Not exactly a good side effect to mess with if you also suffer from anxiety or other mental health disorders.

Sure people enjoy taking pharmaceuticals but we are not talking painkillers here. If you want a quick way to scramble your brain chemistry by all means start mixing and match unknown medications that you find in your nanna's bathroom. You can get high by holding your breath until you pass out too but there are healthier thrills out there.
